Even better than I expected, this hotel is newly refurbished. I was upgraded to a full sea view, from partial, without even asking and had a lovely stay. I booked it to hike from the hotel up the mountain and because there are very long beach walks. So my own needs are different from some - access to the long walks alone without a guide was my priority and no litter. The entrance to the main hike is about 30 minutes' walk from the water sports area beyond a car park and up a track. Details: Food - brilliant food. I chose just to eat one meal a day and I do not drink so am not a typical customer, but it suited my needs perfectly. I am a solo traveller and did not choose to book any of the restaurants but the buffet was tremendous with so much choice. Room - very clean, also I appreciated that when I left at 8am each morning (back about 1.30pm my room had been cleaned every day - I never had to wait around until cleaners had finished. I particularly liked no food in the mini b ar by the way as when there is that often tempts me with junk food. There is a restocked very day set of soft drinks. I did not stay in the "Elite" rooms/area but my own area felt pretty elite to me. A priority for me a table and chair in the room as I bringb a lap top and work an hour a day (again unusual I suppose) and that was there and worked fine. the wifi was fine given the region but was down just for one evening and I could tether my mobile to the lap top to send work emails. Beach etc - I never stay round the pool at hotels although the pools looked good, but always got a sun bed under shade under palm trees without difficulty (I never book sun beds) and swimming in the sea was lovely. Despite what I read in advance the winds which make this a hot spot of kite surfing were a huge plus for me. I only sit in shade, not sun (again I am not like most people) and the breeze was wonderful. The sea swimming was fine on all days within the marked areas. Water sports: I took out a kayak a few times and was often the only person in the top lagoon area with a view that were it colder was just like the most beautiful Scottish loch mountain landscape above you - some of my best moments. The process was easy. I asked the day before when it was best to come and based on tides she said about 10am so each time I just turned up at that time and they gave me a form the first time to complete on an ipad. it is free of charge and there was always at least one spare kayak when I went down there at 10am in November. Hiking : having walked to Le Morne public beach down the beach one day (and there is an International Slave Route small outdoor free of charge place you can visit opposite the car park there ) and then through the side road opposite by the equestrian centre (unmarked side road) to start of hike, I realiised the next day the quicker route on foot to the hike is to end of hotel (end of Rui Turquoise) and then through car park to side road. I didn't hike to the top which requires expertise, mountain climbing and ideally a guide so like most people "just" went to the warning sign but that in itself is a very good distance. As I was alone I could take as many breaks as I liked to sit and look at views, plants, trees, think, rest, drink water (take 2 litres at least as I did). I took 4 hours. Most people would have taken 2. At the end there is a little exhibition including some local herbal plants if you have time. Wear trainers and socks (some silly people tried it in flip flops). It is well marked and you will not get lost. You sign a book when you enter and a disclaimer of liability form and sign out when you leave. Start in the morning. it is free of charge. Loads of people do it alone. Indeed I was passed all the time by very fit older French people some with alpine sticks who clearly do loads of hiking. Beach walks: Beach walks of 1 - 2 hours are something I seek on holidays. This was great here. Some areas of the world you are not really allowed out from a resort due to local violence etc but here it is the safest country in Africa and I felt mcuh safer than places like Mexico, Panama, even Jamaica. For the beach you will need something like my beach shoes, those kind people wear for water sports as although some beaches are gorgeous soft yellow sand, some have short coral. Day 1 I did it barefoot and the hard skin on either foot was removed (a free spa treatment really) but day 2 I made sure I had the shoes at all times. You can keep going walking much further in the direction right towards le morne public beach as you look away from the hotel rather than the other way which leads to the hiking route. Spa: I used the steam room. I went in personally to book it as was not bothering to use the Rui app. I then was directed to take a picture of the square thing and could complete the form from that in my hotel room before going. It in the Turquoise hotel side of the resort next to Rui Palace. They had a slot that afternoon and when I was there no one was there at all. I used the plunge pool too. I like a steam not a sauna so this was ideal. There is another steam room (for men?) which is next door. I did not have time to go back a second time. I did not book any spa treatments as that tends not to be my thing. I also go to bed very early and did not choose to attend any events. My room was extremely quiet and I did not use my ear plugs once so that was much better than many hotels, helped by most people either being older couples (as child free hotel) or young couples without children yet. I do not have a bad word to say about it all. It was a lovely break and my first visit to Mauritius. Direct flights from London (and I believe Paris too) make it fairly accessible. On the last day after check out I could just continue to go to lunch and swim in the sea until my lift at 5.15pm for the night flight back home. 4 hour time difference only from UK makes this a very good destination too. Everyone was very friendly at the hotel and the service was exceptionally good. Well done to the hotel for making this a wonderful stay near nature, near my beloved hikes and very long beach walks - for me the perfect place. The hotel grounds and plants (another interest of mine) are wonderful too and the plants watered trhough a system based on waste water which is a great innovation. Also for me being able to have water to drink (as I do nopt drink alcohol nor even tea and coffee) is a core requirement for holidays and there were always 1.5 litre bottles in my room fridge. The safe worked well too where I kept my passport, wallet and lap top during my stay.

Hotel hodnotím celkově kladně vzhledem k milému a ochotnému personálu a celkovém vzhledu hotelu.

Personální - vždy velmi milý ochotný, i když v některých případech by potřeboval více zaškolit. Ale jak říkám v každé situaci byl velmi příjemný a nápomocný. Nebyla to naše první návštěva sítě Riu Hotel , máme s tohle síti velmi dobré zkušenosti. Napodruhé nás nezklamali. Děkuji 🩷

My wife and I celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary in October by staying at this absolute gem in the Indian Ocean for 14 nights. We don't like a fuss so we kept it quiet. We have been fans of the all inclusive formula of RIU Hotels for some years now and this hotel has exceeded all our expectations. Having had knee surgery (TKR) a few months earlier I was not as nippy as I would have preferred but the staff were so attentive I could not have asked for more. We stayed in room 4010 which was part of the Elite Club area of the hotel and was a junior suite swim-up room - get one if you can. More expensive but you cant beat being served food and drinks by the pool in your cabana style sun bed all day long. We retired to our own pool/terrace in the afternoon when the sun came round late morning onto our patio area. Great fun having a wee cooling off splash with the drinks still flowing from the bottomless mini bar / optics in the room. The Elite club had its own bar where we would watch the Kite Surfers in the lagoon race at incredible speeds then take off in jumps - I had a bet on with my wife that one would land in the pool on a windy day. Kudos to Blessing (our room maid - is that an acceptable term these days?) - she was excellent as was the restocking person for the minibar and the turndown service every night. I think I consumed 30 mini KitKats in that holiday but who was counting (my wife actually). I mentioned the RIU all inclusive formula and here it was displayed in all its excellence - superb and plentiful food, variety in abundance, fresh salads (I had two every day to offset the KitKats) or so I told myself. Being Elite Club a-la-carte my breakfast Mimosas (served by a lovely lady with a flower in her hair - apologies for lack of name) appeared with whatever I fancied but, frankly, I preferred foraging in the main buffet for some of my breakfast favorites especially passion fruits with yoghurt. We particularly enjoyed the live music groups in the Lobby Bar / Terrace rather than the main area where shows were held most nights - not big fans of kids club/Kahoot/ Karaoke/ DJ's and formulaic hotel Abba turns. Being Lobby regulars our references were quickly spotted and anticipated by Raheed (apologies if I have the name wrong). Every thing was spotlessly clean and being almost new everything worked - high pressure rain showers especially. I enjoyed the banter with the front desk and the money changing facility was particularly welcomed. In fact all the staff were so helpful to the "poor old guy limping with the wooden walking stick" that I had to fight them off (joking) - they were great. We are off to the Riu Palace Boa Vista in March 26 where we have visited twice before. Its a hard life.

We spent 10 days here in November. Reception: Check in was easy and we were given a lot of information as well as a map of the site. Smita was really friendly and helpful. Our room wasn't ready as we arrived early but this wasn't an issue for us as it was pleasant to sit outside the bar until it was time for lunch. Room: The room was comfortable and kept very clean. The water pressure was good and water was always hot. There were drinks in the minibar but we didn't use these. There was also tea and coffee but again we didn't use them. Although we were a long way from reception / restaurant etc we thought it was a nice touch that we could reach everywhere without getting wet when it rained due to covered walkways. Food and Drink : Food and drink were both very good (one of the best, if not the best, of the many Palaces we have stayed in). The main restaurant had something to please everyone. We tried the Asian one night and although the food was amazing we weren't quite so impressed with the tapas style of service. We also tried the Steak House next door. The food was good but we found the restaurant to be more cramped and the service not as good as in the Palace. Entertainment: We didn't get involved with the daytime entertainment but this did seem to be minimal. Evening entertainment was also a little lacking we felt although the entertainment staff were enthusiastic. Pool: We never had an issue getting a sunbed. We used the sunbeds rather than the cabanas as when it rained the shades above the sunbeds gave some protection from the rain but the cabanas didn't! Staff : This is where this hotel excelled! Without exception the staff were lovely. Everyone you passed, from gardeners to security guards to room staff, always said hello. We have never stayed anywhere where the staff were so friendly. While we were waiting for our return transfer to the airport one of the staff brought us coffees as she had been serving us these for our stay and remembered what we had! Weather: Although it was warm we had rain approximately 8 out of 10 days. Most days this was just occasional light showers but one day it did rain all day. Most days were also breezy but not so much to be unpleasant. In summary, would we go back - in a heartbeat! We usually stay in Riu hotels 3 times a year and tend to lean towards Palace's. This hotel is up there with the best of them! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here .
