Splendido Bay Luxury Spa Resort

As with some other reviewers stayed here for x 2 nights pre cruise,the hotel is modern with good big rooms and bathroom areas,the breakfast was very good and all the staff are very friendly and want to please, the prices are expensive but are probably in line with other hotels of this quality, reception was very well organised when the group arrived by coach, however ,the coach had to park and off load cases on a main road which was pretty dangerous for the driver off loading and collection by the passengers.The down side to this hotel is you are a captive audience with little or no taxi availability,and no proper ferry service,which meant you couldn’t really leave the property,but if you just like to sunbathe then it probably wouldn’t bother you,no ice,and no corkscrew and no shops within walking distance makes it a pretty expensive stay.

We stayed at the Splendido Bay for two nights as part of a cruise and stay holiday. There were about 30 in our group. We felt at home from the start. The staff are very friendly. The hotel backs onto the lake and there are large gardens with a swimming pool and a pool bar. We decided to have a lazy day by the pool but had to come in at about 1.30 as it was very hot. We had a very comfortable room on the ground floor. The air conditioning is very efficient which is important to us as we like to be cool at night. The buffet breakfast, which was included in our stay, was excellent, with everything fresh and a very wide choice. We had breakfast on the outside terrace. There are only two niggles 1. The bar and food prices are very high but this seems to be standard for a hotel of this class. For example 16 euros for a pino colada and 19 euros for minestrone soup although it did come with lovely rustic bread. 2 There are no shops etc within walking distance and you'd need a car. There is an excellent restaurant next door (Il Lido). The hotel has 2 restaurants. One is expensive and the other, which is Michelin listed is very expensive.

The hotel facilities are excellent, spotlessly clean. Food is divine. The staff speak very good English and are very helpful. Whilst away the receptionist (Rita) went above and beyond to find my mobile phone. Rita checked the bedding, called a coffee shop and tracked it down, then arranged a lift to the coffee shop. Thank you.

Our family of two adults and one child stayed for 2 weeks at Splendido Bay Luxury Spa Resort in August, having booked a year in advance. Upon arrival, our welcome was quite cold and impersonal, lacking warmth and hospitality. We were shown to a garden room that was less than ideal, with the lounge area converted into a makeshift bedroom and a bathroom that was tired and not clean. After documenting the issues and speaking with the manager, it was clear that the hotel didn't quite meet a five star standard. However the management did eventually resolve the problems by providing us with 2 separate, newly refurbished rooms, which were much more comfortable. The pool area was outdated and had safety concerns, the indoor spa was mostly out of service with an empty hot tub and closed steam room, the grounds felt that they had given up on the manicured feel and while breakfast was excellent with friendly staff, dinner and lunch service often felt pretentious and on occasions rude. Additionally we were surprised by the "coperto' (cover charge) of €7 per person per sitting, which added to the expense. The resorts remote location means that renting a car is essential as there's not much to do within walking distance. We did enjoy exploring the area around the lake like Limone, Salo, Desenzano (Where we took mostly all of our evening meals), Peschiera, Lazise and Malcesine so definitely required a car. The one stand out member of staff for us was the lovely lady on reception with the leopard skin glasses, so sorry we forgot her name but she was a star and deserves recognition. In summary, Splendid bay has potential but it needs improvements to truly meet five-star expectations.
