Our stay at the Grand Hotel Gozo was highly underwhelming, and it unfortunately did not live up to expectations. Right from the beginning, there was a check-in mix-up where we were given a double room instead of the twin room we booked. The gentleman at reception said "that's the problem with using travel agents and not booking directly", then repeatedly saying "it'll be fine" before resolving the situation. While it was eventually resolved (thanks to the manager), it set a frustrating tone for the trip. The service throughout our stay was a major weak point. To be fair, some of the staff members we encountered were genuinely polite, friendly, and welcoming. However, the vast majority of the staff, particularly the male staff, seemed completely checked out and like they didn't really want to be there. There was a general lack of care; for instance, at breakfast, we asked for oat milk, and the server simply never came back. We also experienced another staff mix-up at the bar, where the employee didn't seem to understand how to charge items to the room. The breakfast itself was poor. You couldn't help yourself to tea, you had to ask for this, and it was disgusting (as if it had been brewing for hours), the coffee was bad, there was a very poor selection of fruit (4 fruit items, 2 of which were melon which I'm allergic to) and no milk alternatives readily available. As for the room, it was dirty, outdated, and poorly designed. We kept finding long black hairs in the bathroom (neither of us have long hair), and the layout is highly impractical. There is nowhere to store your things in the bathroom and not enough hooks for towels (which is especially annoying when you have pool towels to hang up). We never managed to fully dry our pool towels and they ended up smelling pretty bad. We had a shower over a bath, the taps were leaky and grubby, the bath floor was stained and rough in places. Bizarrely, there were also no plugs near the beds? They're renovating one side of the hotel, and evidently there are some lovely rooms to be booked on that side. The hotel was pretty quiet during our visit but I suspect they didn't want to put all guests in nicer rooms. The original hotel is grubby and dated. The carpets are in desperate need of replacement and the rooms need updating. The hotel’s layout also leaves a lot to be desired if you want to relax outside. The only place to sit outdoors and enjoy a drink or food is on the terrace, which directly leads onto a very, very busy main road, or by the pool on sun loungers, which doesn't have a bar but a phone service to have food /drink delivered, and there is very little shade only provided by umbrellas that are usually being used. That being said, it is a lovely pool area with a wonderful view. On a sad note, there is also a fish tank separating the bar and restaurant area, that is visibly far too small for the quite large fish crammed in there unable to actually swim, which was upsetting to see. You should never prioritise aesthetic over animal welfare. Sadly, a nice pool isn't enough to make up for the poor room standards and lackluster service.
V hotelu jsme vyzkušeli 2 různé pokoje protože jsme si prodlužovali pobyt - oba pokoje bez problémů jen v obou špatně odtékala voda z umyvadel i vany.
Hotelový personál příjemný a snídaně chutné.
Excellent location, spacious, comfortable and clean room, abundant breakfast and very helpful staff... And the cherry on the cake? Martin Sapiano who helped us each time we met on the premises. Will visit again for sure
The best experience ever, starting from the location, view, rooms and staff.... delighted with this place❣️
