The hotel itself is beautiful, and the staff are friendly and polite, but it lacks some very basic systems that end up wasting a significant amount of your holiday. The elevators are old, small, and extremely slow. We stayed on the sixth floor, and it often took a long time just to get downstairs because the lifts are slow and only comfortably fit around four people. The hallways and elevators are also not air-conditioned, making the wait very uncomfortable, especially in the summer heat. Getting a pool towel is unnecessarily complicated. First, you have to pay a deposit at reception and receive a ticket. You then need to take that ticket to one specific pool, as only one of the hotel's four pools provides towels. If that pool has run out of towels, you have to walk all the way back to reception and queue again, where only two staff members are trying to handle check-ins, check-outs, spa bookings, and every other guest request. Paying extra for the "My Favourite Club" membership was, in my opinion, not worth it. The only real benefits are access to one additional tiny pool with a snack bar and a separate dining area at dinner. Unfortunately, this dining area is small, stuffy, and has no windows. The only advantage is that your drinks are served at the table instead of having to collect them yourself from the bar. To make matters worse, this dining area is also where the staff collect dirty dishes and dispose of food waste, meaning you're treated to the constant noise of clattering plates and cutlery throughout your meal. Hardly the premium dining experience you would expect when paying extra. The hotel also appears to be understaffed. Waiting for drinks at the bar regularly takes a very long time because only two bartenders are serving both sides of the bar. At breakfast, the coffee machines frequently break down, leaving all guests queuing to use the single working machine. Our room has a lovely pod coffee machine, but only four complimentary coffee pods are provided for the entire stay. Once they're gone, there are no refills. Housekeeping also needs improvement. If you bring glasses or cups from the bar to your room, they are not removed during cleaning. We currently have four empty glasses and cups sitting in our room because housekeeping has left them there every day. You receive one complimentary bottle of water on arrival, but after that you are expected to buy your own from a local supermarket. Overall, this simply does not feel like four-star service. We regularly stay in four-star hotels and resorts, so we have plenty of experience to compare it with. On the second day of our stay, we witnessed a small child repeatedly vomiting while being held by their mother at the pool bar. It was very upsetting to see that no member of the hotel staff approached to offer assistance or check if the family needed any help. The swimming pool was also very dirty, which was unacceptable, especially for families with children. After four days of our stay, two of our children became seriously ill with what was diagnosed as rotavirus. While we cannot say for certain where they contracted it, the poor hygiene standards at the hotel, especially around the pool, were very concerning. Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences we have had. We would not recommend this hotel to families with children, and we will definitely not return.
