Hotel Huma Kotor Bay

Nice hotel in a lovely location with gorgeous views — walkable to Kotor Old Town along the beautiful waterfront (30 mins or so). We booked last minute and the staff were very accommodating. The gym was excellent, one of the best we’ve seen in a hotel. Housekeeping was a bit inconsistent, and while the bar area was very quiet, breakfast was well stocked and tasty. Easy to park in the garage (around $15 per day). Overall, a comfortable stay with lots of potential if the hotel gets a bit of a refresh and improves on a few things. I would say it definitely currently has the feel of a 3-4 star rather than 5.

Lovely building, pools and beach. Great holiday but small things letting it down that end up feeling like big things. Got the impression the people who run it are not proud of it. Our greeting was a bit miserable, the hire bikes were falling apart (we picked the best two but one of them had a brake hanging off). The staff were lazy (it wasn't clear if housekeeping had been most days - towels not folded, top sheet not on bed, missing mugs, no new coffee etc). Maybe training had lapsed and management was absent. They are scrimping on the quality of the food (smoked salmon on the turn and quite a basic brekkie). Loads of potential though and we did have a lovely time! Oh and we got blamed for the broken brake! And parking is €15 per night...

In the words of a local restaurant owner, Huma has the potential to be one of the best hotels in Kotor but…….and, it has to be said it’s a big but! It really is a 3 Star Hotel at best but sadly with 5 Star prices. I don’t think it’s because Montenegro is a relatively new kid on the block for tourism but this hotel is miles behind when it comes to service. The positives are: Location Private Beach Comfortable room and bed Nice shower with plenty of hot water Buffet breakfast Negatives are: Housekeeping Price of food and drink Beach bar - inadequate service, no visible management of staff, poor food and expensive drinks The primary focus for improvement should be the beach bar. One waiter seemed astonished when a guest returned a cold burger. However, when you see how long the cooked food is left on the side of the kitchen waiting to be served, it really should not be a surprise. The number of complaints we witnessed in the week should be enough for the management to know where the problem lies. I hope they sort it out as it has great potential.

We stayed for 6 nights at Huma and it was disappointing. The location is ok (albeit next time I’d stay in Perast) - close to Kotor and Perast and on the bay of Kotor with gorgeous views. Pros - The hotel pools are ok, if a little small. The breakfast is good. The room was spacious and had a great view. Parking is easy albeit chargeable at €15/day. There is a walk way below the hotel with easy access to some nice local restaurants (with better service and better food than the hotel), Cons - The food is very expensive, the restaurant service is poor/dire, the rooms are not cleaned (the bed is made daily and the towels seemed to be changed very other day). I cleaned the bathroom sinks myself, supplied my own English breakfast tea bags (unavailable for the room but available for €4 by the pool), sourced my own sugar, fetched my own cutlery and served my own food as the waiters didn’t get around to bringing it after a 50 minute wait. Food quality in the restaurants is patchy.

We read the reviews of the hotel before we came away (but after we booked!!) And we were a bit apprehensive to say the least. I have to say I didn't recognise the hotel described in the reviews as we had a very pleasant experience- yes housekeeping was a bit hit and miss and yes it is a bit pricey but....the position of the hotel is outstanding, the beach is the best by far in Kotor, we found the staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. All in all we had a great holiday.
