Dreams Curacao Resort, Spa & Casino

First let me preference this review with the fact that, my husband and I travel at a min, of 3 to 4 x times a year – thank God this trip was discounted, based on the prospect of us becoming a UVC Member [Unlimited Vacation Club] under the Hyatt Program. When choosing from the list of locations, which was limited to Mexico, Jamaica and Curacao. Curacao was a no brainer, as it was on list, and my husband and I had been to Mexico and Jamaica enough. PROS: Curacao is a beautiful Island. The beach was gorgeous and water so pretty that you could swim with and see all the pretty colorful fish (some fish were rather large lol). CONS: Everything else! Accommodation’s > Arrived at resort approx. 2:45p -3p… Had to wait 2 hrs. to get to our room and upon seeing room, we were completely disappointed! Rooms require a complete Renovation. The room does not reflect vacation – looks like a low budget US motel room; and that’s being generous. There were no outlets on either side of the bed, the nightstands (if u can call them that), had no lamps, no room clock, and phone was across the room on the desk /dresser. But neither the phone nor the TV worked upon our arrival. *Engineer came to fix the next day. So room service had to be ordered at front desk downstairs, which took over an hour to arrive – when phone was fixed all room service orders had to be called into the front desk as no one ever answered the room service line. We ordered room service about 3-4x during our stay and each time it took 60+ mins to arrive. One time nobody even showed up. Food/Restaurants > The resort only has a total of (3) restaurants (Seafood, Italian and Steakhouse) and a Buffet. However, any given night they are NOT Open at same time. (1) per night – which is HORRIBLE. Please note; the Buffet needs a better set-up / presentation as any food laid out for display i.e., bread, fruit, salads, dressing, fixings etc., these, I chose not to touch as the flies were a problem and the resort had no solutioning (outside of using those table top ‘Fly Spinners’ ) ridiculous! I have them at home. And did I fail to mention all restaurants are outside – except the Steakhouse, which was open our final night and could not fulfil all the items on menu, I don’t even eat steak, so I ordered the fish, which came hard as a rock – needless to say, we ended up leaving. (and weren’t the only ones). We ended up ordering room service – Again. Room service had better options but, food in general was NOT GOOD at all! Staff / Service > All staff appeared like they were unhappy and couldn’t be bothered. There were a few who stood out like Jair, our Room Service person, he was always so pleasant and did his best with what he had!! When approaching the main bar, most bartenders did not acknowledge or ask you what you wanted – just let you stand there. I however, will say, service at the seafood restaurant was very good (wish I could recall the young lady’s name Che or Ghee??) Otherwise, the service overall was just terrible, and staff could use additional training. Between our complaints and the complaints we heard from others, we would Not recommend this resort to anyone!! Even if you dared to book at the newest section 'Il Mar' which is just on the other side, which has its own (1) restaurant and (1) pool bar - your main hub would still be Dreams Curacao for all other restaurants and bars - which again, in my opinion were not worth it.

As I’m sitting in the airport on the way home writing this review. I feel like we overpaid quite a bit. It wasn’t a bad place. Location was good. We were in the preferred section and we had water leaking all over our floor from the shower. The only shade you had there was on own patio. If you went to a preferred beach, there was absolutely no shade and the Palapas had no tops. You just had to sit there and bake in the sun. The bar and a restaurant preferred side was better than the bar and restaurants at dreams. Entertainment was sketchy and they had only one night of music and one night of a live show. They listed the live show is Tuesdays and Thursdays, but we didn’t see anything on Tuesday. The way the advertise life shows you had pay up to $150 extra to eat a special dinner in order to see the live show, but that was not the case. The $150 extra was for the upgrade of dinner. I took us a half an hour conversation with our butler to figure that out. It was all confusion with the shows, and entertainment along with who is open for dinner and breakfast. Entertainment and restaurant guide they gave us they was totally wrong because you never know who’s open for dinner who’s open for breakfast or anything. When you get to the restaurant they’re closed. Then you go to the restaurant that says elegant dress and then you got people in tank tops and shorts eating next to you while you’re alll dressed up. You can go to Zoetry and eat at blooms which was way better Restaraunt, but be prepared to get eaten alive whether it’s breakfast or dinner because it seems like they do not spray at all over there for the mosquitoes. The beach of dreams was one of the nicest beaches we’ve been to on the island because it had the most sand and the least amount of rocks in-the water. If I were to go back, I would have to have a super huge discount in the price otherwise I’ll look someplace else.

Family and I didn’t have a good experience at this hotel and i was celebrating my birthday. 2 of front desk staff were terrible all the time that we were there. We didn’t get 2 of the King rooms that we reserved. Restaurants were closed most of time. Cleaning person threw away my Birthday Cake and food that I had just bought at an expensive restaurant without asking when I was not in the room. I would NOT suggest this hotel to anyone and I read the reviews before I picked this hotel but I wanted to see for myself but I made a big mistake coming to this hotel and I will never be back to this hotel.
