For those of you planning a trip to the Dreams Cap Cana Resort in Punta Cana, I hope our review will help answer any questions you might have. It will be lengthy but will cover as much information as possible. We stayed at this resort from February 18th to March 4th as regular guests, not preferred. It is beautiful, a smaller resort, quiet but the epitome of an amazing and relaxing holiday. On a side note, from speaking with resort guests, the consensus was that paying for preferred was not worth the extra money spent, unless you absolutely need a butler. The upgrade was offered to us but we declined. There are 4 buildings as well as the Villas section. Our room was in building 4, on the 1st floor (which is actually the 2nd floor because what we would call the 1st floor is actually called the ground floor for them). This location suited us perfect. It was quiet and our balcony overlooked one of the pools and we could just catch a glimpse of the ocean. For us, this building was close to everything that we needed but honestly, every building is pretty central with the exception of building 1 which is closer to the Villas. The resort is beautiful with 4 or 5 pools to choose from. We need to point out that the pool water is pristine clean, the cleanest pool water we have ever seen, as a result of their filtering and drainage systems and pool maintenance staff. I had read many complaints about the water being so cold but we would disagree on that. We found it to be warm, especially in mid-afternoon. The pool by the Sea Legs bar is quieter than the Kaiman pool, however, it was loaded with activities. There was pool volleyball, exercise classes, dance classes, water aerobics on exercise bikes in the water which is a lot of fun, as well as stand-up basketball nets and yoga on flat inflated boards on the water. The yoga was quite the challenge to maintain balance while trying to look fit but lots of fun to try. Off to the side, on the sand area, there were also a few games of volleyball going on. Twice in the 2 weeks we were there, they also set up a race track surrounded by inflatable edges to ride quads on the sand. That was super fun as long as your quad didn't get stuck in the sand but great fun if you have the opportunity to partake. The Kaiman pool and bar almost daily had a huge inflatable slide as well as a long inflated dragon that kids could walk across and slide into the water. As well, by the bar, they were cornhole throwing contests, a dart board and ring toss. It always seemed to be a bit crazier and noisier that the Sea Legs pool. There was also quite a smaller pool for preferred guests but no entertainment or activity going on there. As well, there is a pool for kids with a few sprays and dumping buckets. Towels are plentiful and available at the pool areas. Loungers are also plentiful but not all have umbrellas so if an umbrella is a must, get there early, very early. If you ask one of the pool staff, they will do their best to find an umbrella for you. There is also a good number of lounge beds but you need to reserve those for a cost. I believe it's $100 but can't confirm as we were happy with the loungers and didn't feel the need to reserve a bed. This is the first resort we've been to that guests do not wear bracelets or bands indicating what level of service you're entitled to sooo.... it was pointed out to us that certain pools were only for prefered guests and certain things like Corona beer was only available to prefered guests but..... we were never asked if we were preferred so the Corona tasted mighty fine. Let's start with the room: . king bed with end table on either side . sofa, chair, footstool and round coffee table as well as bench to sit on at the foot of the bed . long dresser with 4 drawers . T.V. . large closet with iron, ironing board and umbrella . small storage area with 4 smaller drawers on one side and 4 on the other . in-room safe which we had no problem with . large walk-in open shower (there is no door but there never is at a resort) . good size bathroom with large mirror and 2 sinks as well as 3 small shelves . toilet has its own door and is private . balcony had small table, 2 chairs, lounge bed and pull out rack for hanging wet clothes Animation team around the pool: no problem interacting with them but although they try very hard to get things going around the pool.....we've unfortunately seen better animation teams. The activities guys (those that were doing the water aerobics and water yoga) were great though. Let's move on to activities available away from the pool. Miguel, from the animation team is responsible for bike tours. My husband and I are in our early 70s and bike regularly at home but a 2-hour, 10 kms. ride which included a couple of hills, in 28 degree weather was a challenge that we were proud to have accomplished. No problem for Miguel though as he regularly checked to make sure we were keeping up to the pace. Pickleball....... there are not enough words to describe Miguel (not the same Miguel as the bike tour). Miguel at the Core Zone is a perfect gentleman, an amazing man and awesome tennis and pickleball pro that brings grace, experience, expertise and fun to the Core Zone courts. His attitude and love for pickleball and tennis is unwavering. He treated us like family, always welcoming us and offering us pointers how best to play the game. He is out there all day, giving tennis and pickleball lessons. We had the privilege of playing several games against him (Miguel against the 2 of us) and we loved it (and so did he). He made it so much fun and we can honestly say that he is definitely an asset and a true ambassador for the Cap Cana resort. Activities at the Core Zone also include a pool table, shuffleboard, ping-pong as well as a TV and video games. So..... to recap activities at this resort, there are many to keep you busy. There was also an Explorer's Club for kids inside our Building #4 . Can't confirm if there is one in every building. Food: You will not be disappointed. No matter where we ate, we left feeling very satisfied. The buffet: Contrary to what we had heard, the buffet definitely has something for everyone. An omelette/egg station, pasta station, meat carvery, lots of salads, breads, pizza, a Kid's corner, fruit and a wide assortment of deserts. Bacon is awesome in the morning and the servers are all very friendly and quick to serve. We did eat at the buffet on various days for breakfast, lunch and suppers. Granted, their beef is tasty but definitely not tender like at home but that is not their fault. Everything else was very appealing and delicious. A la cartes: Our #1 favourite was the Steakhouse. We ate there 3 times. Several items to choose from but our meal, for example was as follows: . bun (slice of cheese/onion on top) . Caesar salad . onion soup . grilled/baked provolone cheese . 12 oz. New York steak or a Filet Mignon served with potato slices and veggies . desert - chocolate fondant with ice cream or cheesecake Our #2 favourite was the Caribbean. Many items to choose from, for example: . soup . salad with vinaigrette dressing . dumplings as appetizers . chicken or beef fajitas served with rice . enchiladas . lime pie #3 would be the Italian . Caprese salad (small cheese balls in olive oil) . appetizers . pizza . cordon bleu with fettuccini noodles . also self-serve table with variety of cold cuts and cheeses We also had their lasagna on another visit and it was absolutely delicious! #4 would be the Asian We actually did not enjoy this food and therefore did not return. I must say that their Teriyaki Salmon and Beef and Broccoli were ok but nothing else to our taste. #5 is Mediterranean which, as non-preferred guests, we were only allowed to go for supper but were also told that most food is fish and not good so we declined to try. Coco Cafe: This place is amazing....open 24/7 for coffee, drinks, yogourt, pastries, sandwiches, wraps, fruit. Staff is so busy, non-stop but always pleasant and quick. Barefoot Grill: Also amazing.....food is delicious! Hamburgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, boneless chicken wings (superb). Also have a BBQ grill cooking chicken and other menu items. Located at the end of the resort closest to the beach area. Shoutout to Ramon who takes the food orders. There are several tables to sit and eat but if you prefer to go back to the pool, Ramon will deliver the meal to you, always with a warm and friendly smile. Every other day, the resort also set up a lunch bar with items such as hamburgers, tacos, fish stir-fry, wings. The quick lunch was located beside the Sea Legs bar and was great if you didn't feel like walking over to the buffet. A band also played every other day by the Sea Legs bar and the musicians were awesome.....very talented. We enjoyed that very much. A band and singers also performed in the evening at the Palm Bar. Ocean: Beautiful and yes, it is true about the amount of seaweed but it doesn't take away from the beauty and peace of walking along the ocean and feeling the warm breeze. We walked to the left of the resort for a few minutes until we reached the other resort. There is a dock that stretches out quite a bit and we were able to swim to the left of that dock. The water was clear there, however, still a few rocks to walk on so we would definitely recommend wearing water shoes. We most certainly were happy to have them. Honourable mentions to staff that enhanced our stay and that will hold fond memories for us: MIGUEL..... the tennis and pickleball pro that treated us like family and made us feel special each and every day HARRY...... at Core Zone who was always fun to chat with MIGUEL.... the bicycle tour guide JUNIOR...... the lifeguard/ medical at the quiet pool by Sea Legs. This young man checked on us several times a day to ask how we were doing and always willing to help if we needed anything.....much appreciated! ALFREDO...... gentleman who offers guests the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of wine. Always friendly, very personable and never missed a chance to stop by and say hello RAMON...... hard-working gentleman, very friendly, always smiling and welcoming JORGE, SANDRO, ELIAS and JUDEIVY......all very friendly and helpful poolside MANULKA and DANIELLIS...... extremely personable and eager to serve us at the buffet Too many staff to mention but all love their job and always made us feel welcomed and special during our 2-week stay. We definitely would recommend this resort. You would not be disappointed. Lucille and Jerry Winnipeg, Manitoba Travel dates: February 18th to March 4th, 2026

But once we arrived, and we had our first interaction with staff we could see we were in for a great vacation. We had booked for 10 nights and coming from a cold climate we were very much looking forward to the warm weather and relaxing days. Check-in was seamless and they upgraded us to the Premium Area (nice touch). The rooms were very clean, spacious and our balcony had a nice view of the ocean. The next day we met up with our concierge/butler for our stay Carlos) and he catered to us everyday, always inquiring if everything was going well and if we needed anything else to make our vacation better. When the Premium lounge didn’t have Canadian Club whiskey, the next day a bottle was in the lounge. The restaurants all had an abundance of different food options and for an all inclusive, the food always kept its flavour and every meal was enjoyable. The bars each offered their own appeal, where you never waited very long for a drink. The staff were always very attentive and polite. We travelled with our mom who is 82. Although she doesn’t use a wheelchair at home, the resort offered us one for ease of getting around the large resort. It was definitely an added bonus. The beach, all the posts we read prior to arriving were accurate about the beach, unfortunately it isn’t very swim-able in front of the resort, but just a short walk down and the beaches were absolutely beautiful. For us this wasn’t an issue and we walked on the beach for an hour each day. We would stay here again. Thank you Carlos and the Dreams Cap Cana team, you made our vacation very enjoyable
