My husband and i recently stayed at Dreams Flora (beginning of June). We were invited to a wedding taking place at the resort, and also had our 5 year wedding anniversary falling in the time period so we thought we’d go to celebrate the milestone. I want to start by saying the resort itself is beautiful. However, the services left us incredibly disappointed. We booked a preferred club junior suite and were told that the mini fridge would be replenished daily. In the 6 days we were there, it was only replenished once (not including the water which was replenished daily, but never placed in the mini fridge. It was simply placed on the ledge right next to our door as if the person replenishing simply reached an arm in and left the bottles without checking anything else). We were also disappointed that the resort didn’t do anything to acknowledge our anniversary while we stayed there, even though it was in our reservation and they did mention it upon check in. We were surrounded by rooms who all had banners on their door recognizing birthdays/anniversaries/ect. If you are wondering if you should upgrade to preferred club or stick with basic, don’t bother with preferred. The perks aren’t that great. We didn’t find a ton of need to have the personal concierge. It was certainly beneficial during check in & check out, as we got to do it quickly and privately, however the extra cost doesn’t justify the cost. We didn’t notice better alcohol choices, even at the preferred pool bar. Our room was also very underwhelming. There wasn’t even a couch in the room, just an incredibly uncomfortable bed, which has left be VERY confused by those who have said they got a great nights sleep. I guess we weren’t drinking enough for that, because my husband and i both came home with incredibly sore backs from the bed. Next i want to address the food. We enjoyed the selection at the buffet, however we found the restaurants to have strange or mislabeled foods. At the wedding we were served “chicken cordon bleu” which actually was a breaded chicken with a red sauce and cheese, making it more like a chicken parm. The steakhouse was incredibly underwhelming. I ordered a side of Mac & cheese with my dinner and it was more like overcook macaroni with a watery milk that tasted like dishwater. At the Mexican restaurant i ordered enchiladas with green sauce, but they came with red. I didn’t mind that much, except that the red sauce was not enchilada sauce. It was marinara sauce which left my husband and i incredibly confused. I will say that the Italian restaurant was delicious. We tried it on our last night and i wished we’d tried it earlier in our trip, as upon my entree arriving i became suddenly and incredibly ill - almost passing out. As for the staff, we encountered a few who were incredibly friendly. We didn’t get everyone’s names, like the female server at the preferred club pool bar in the evenings by the steakhouse and Italian restaurant. She was incredibly friendly & in good spirits even when things got busy. We also really loved Wayler at the pool bar by the beach. He was very attentive. Overall, we found the resort underwhelming compared to all the reviews we’d read online, as well as other resorts we’ve stayed (not in the DR) Although upon further digging, we did find others with similar or worse issues. We most likely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone we know, nor would we return. We’ll definitely do better research next trip we take, and would possibly avoid this brand of hotel.
The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I thought the food was good for an all inclusive resort. Our teenagers enjoyed working out the nice gym on site as well. The only negative feedback is that while beach and sand were nice and provided beautiful views, there was a ton of seaweed in the water that made it basically impossible to go in the ocean. Not the fault of Dreams, but if you are looking for beautiful water right off the beach, you may need to go at a different time of year.
We traveled as 2 families, each with a toddler in tow, for a 4 day trip. It was wonderful! The grounds were particularly impressive: gorgeous lawns, plants, flowers, trees, and paths, with pools and water features scattered all around - which is to say nothing of the wonderful and comfortable beach! Our kids loved exploring; we, the adults, loved the all-inclusive experience. We had great food whenever we wanted it; we had quick drink service; and our rooms were clean, cool, and inviting. We dined at several of the special restaurants - Seaside Grill was our favorite (the ribs were phenomenal) - and we at luxuriously at the breakfast buffet every day. While we were there, the resort never felt crowded. We always had ample space and great service. This was an excellent first resort experience for our young families.
We had an amazing vacation at Dreams Flora. Highly recommend, especially if you're travelling with kids. The staff at the Kids Club are wonderful!
The GOOD: 1) The grounds were masterfully designed in terms of landscape. Every path and seating area presents a photo opportunity with ultra-lush vegetation and well-maintained plants and trees. Anywhere you sit, you'll feel somewhat secluded and protected by plants and bushes. Showers next to each pool for sand. Well done. 2) WIFI is skillfully done in terms of both coverage and speed- even on the walking paths and near the pools the WIFI availability was never an issue. 3) Air Conditioning, while limited to 21.5C (about 70F) for lower temps, was powerful and consistent. Comfortable and refreshing. 4) Pools are relatively clean, great swim-up bars, friendly staff everywhere. The BAD: 1) I upgraded to an "Ocean View" room for extra cost. There was no view of the ocean from our room, though the patio did face that direction. 2) There are local vendors up and down the beach happy to interrupt any family moments you're having. Hotel has good security, but it was obvious the vendors selling goods and excursions were legally allowed to approach hotel guests and offer sales and experiences- we were approached once every 2 minutes or so. 3) We visited during Sargassum season which made the beach unattractive, and the water was completely brown with bits of algae- (think brown like a muddy lake) . The hotel had barriers up for the algae blooms, and had a tractor raking the beach in the morning and evening, but there was so much algae in the water, it looked brown like the color of coffee at times. The seaweed was so thick it made swimming not fun because, and the ocean view was not good. 4) if your flight gets in before 4pm, you might get parked in the lobby while you wait for a room. 5) This is a kid-friendly hotel, so if you're looking for quiet and serene, you should stick towards the Adult-Only area, and choose later dinners when the kids are asleep. Better quality alcohol selections in the Preferred Adult section also.
