Sunscape Coco Punta Cana

The bar staff, entertainment team, the housekeepers were a dream come true. There were some things that could be better. The front desk staff was very unhelpful at times. Our room was leaking from the ceiling and our phones weren’t working to call down. We had to go down and tell them which is far walk from the room. Not a nice experience in that sense. They often took our upset for a joke. The room was leaking. The phone not working. Of course we will be annoyed. They switched our room and our new room phone also doesn’t work. lol. Food was mid. They tell you to download the app to book the restaurant everyday at 9am. The app doesn’t work and every restaurant doesn’t seem to be available ever. Out of the 7 days we got one reservation & had to eat at the buffet the entire time. Upon telling staff about the app we were dismissed. So that mad the experience also mid. No one wants to eat the same thing everyday on vacation. It was my sisters birthday and we were not even able to get a reservation at resto. We had to use the buffet. However those staff were lovely and decorated the chairs with balloons and sang happy birthday with us. Also I do not like the fact that there is no wrist band to indentify which resort you belong too. Seems like a bit of a safety concern for me. The blue water restaurant: where we got the only reservation was 3/10. Staff took my no egg request as joke. And they’re idea of a Cobb salad was insulting. The soup was decent. All in all, I’d still recommend a family to go back. Young adults/singles under 40 I would not recommend.

Wonderful family friendly environment! We have a large family and travel is complicated and often very expensive. This was a fantastic cost-effective trip that they’ll remember forever.

The hotel looks old, dirty, and shabby. I'd give it 2.5 stars at most. The room smells very damp and moldy, there's mold on the ceiling, and the closet stinks so badly that after two days all our clothes stank. The food selection is small, and the staff barely understands English. We paid extra for late checkout, and yet they turned off our hot water at 12 pm. We called the reception to ask for hot water to be turned on because we wanted to take a shower before leaving, and after 10 minutes they brought us towels and water in bottles, the staff understands English ;-) The beach is not cleaned at all, so it was very dirty with seaweed, it looked like a garbage dump. I think this holiday was not worth the money we paid.

Having been to various parts of the Dominican Republic 15 times in the last 9 years, I feel more than qualified to review Sunscape Coco resort. Our favorite resort in the past is located next door, but unfortunately is closed to be updated so we knew the area. We previously stayed in another Sunscape resort in a different location and felt comfortable with their procedures. With that introduction, I will now give my honest opinions about this resort. Check-in: We arrived early on a Sunday afternoon and were quickly checked in at the main lobby instead of being escorted to the Sun Club lounge (where we had a room reserved). The process took less than 15 minutes and we along with our luggage were taken to our room in building 1. Room: Very nicely decorated with most everything we needed for the week. Extremely clean and AC worked perfectly. Our was a swim-out, and our section of the pool was quiet, clean and relaxing. Housekeeping was excellent, although we never actually got to meet ours… coffee station, mini-bar and linens were replenished daily. Most nights, fresh towels, bed turned down and bedside water bottles appeared while we out for the evening. Beach: Main reason for our preferred vacation choices! This resort offers Bali beds for an added cost and after checking out the beach on check-in day, we chose to rent one for the week. Elvin, our beach attendant was amazing. That 1st day, he showed us our choices, helped us pick our location, took down our room number and assured us he would have it all set Monday morning. A tropical storm had passed by earlier in the week, and there was some seaweed present on Sunday, but not too much to allow us to enjoy the beach. Monday morning after a delicious breakfast, we headed to the beach. Our bed was all set up with plenty of pillows, towels, and bedside tables. Elvin also had a lounger all set up for me in the sun. Steve prefers to be shaded and an umbrella was beside our bed to insure complete coverage. Elvin made sure to keep an eye on the sun and moved the umbrella as needed without ever being asked. The ocean was still rough from storm on Monday, but staff kept beach clean and from Tuesday on, water was perfect. Beach service: Elvin and 2 other servers were around daily to provide fresh drinks and offering to deliver lunch directly to our beach home! A clean restroom was within steps easily accessible. Pools: we walked around the resort and checked out all the pools even though we only used our personal swim-out. They were all clean and appeared to be well maintained. Theater: We attended each nightly show, sitting on the patio to the left of the Starstruck theater bar after dinner to play cards and people watch. Pre-show music and entertainment was relaxing and comfortable. Shows were good and the performers were quite talented. There wasn’t any table service on the patio, but lines were never long to get drinks. CoCo/Coco 2 coffee shops were always staffed and provided a nice choice of hot or cold coffee drinks as well as tasty snacks. Club lounge/patio: great choice of tasty sandwiches, snacks, fruit, or desserts. Self-serve coffee machine and wonderful bar staff! This was one of our favorite places to sit and relax. Manager Kioman learned that we were celebrating our 40th anniversary and had a special surprise for both our Bali bed & in our room. Jorge handled our check-out very efficiently! Food: We are not picky eaters and tried both buffets, as well as Tiki Taco, Terra, Bluewater & Teppanyaki a la carte restaurants. We enjoyed each and always had excellent service. Bluewater was our favorite. Resort: although we didn’t utilize each facility, we did check out the tennis & basketball court, jumbo chess game board, children’s water park, gym, casino and pool bar. Everything was clean & well maintained. Kayaks & paddle boards we available free of charge at the beach and I did try my hand at both successfully. My overall feelings about Sunscape CoCo is I’m so impressed with it all. It easily met our expectations! I only have a couple of issues. 1) All drinks outside the restaurants are served in thin paper cups that break down very quickly and most staff will allow you to use 2 instead of 1 so it holds up longer. I feel it would be more cost effective to use cheap plastic cups that could be washed. 2) The rooms don’t have any closed drawer spaces to put away clothing. When I’m on vacation, I refuse to live out of a suitcase and prefer to put all clothing away.

Beautiful location, great rooms, has a lot of potential but it disappoints. Food is not good, staff does their best. Would not recommend.
