Caravel

Booked a last minute 3 night stay here through On The Beach. I normally do my research before going on holiday but with booking just 6 days in advance there was very little time and not much availability, so I opted for Hotel Caravel. We arrived via the Curreri bus and walked the short distance to the hotel - no more than 10mins with a suitcase. Check in was fine and we were allocated room 312. A nice large room with a balcony. Yes the balcony is small but it was perfectly adequate. The room was very clean. The only downside was the mattress wasn't the most comfortable, but it wasn't awful. We were bed & breakfast and that suited me fine. I enjoyed trying different places to eat in Sorrento. (We went to IL Ruttino the first evening as its a couple of doors down - I wasn't impressed with the food or the cost, but everywhere I ate in downtown Sorrento was lovely). The staff were all friendly and polite and we enjoyed our stay. There were a couple of minor things which included the bed wasn't that comfortable and the shuttle bus wasn't quite as good as I was anticipating. You had to pre-book for every journey. You couldn't just hop on if it wasn't full. How do you know how long you are going to be downtown? So the first few days we walked as I was told they needed to know a return time, but then a different member of staff on reception said just ring us and we will arrange the time. Why they couldn't say that in the first place I'm not sure, but the walk was fine. Overall though we had a great stay and I would definitely consider staying here again and recommending to anyone wanting to holiday in Sorrento.

Great Hotel, Outstanding Staff. Stayed for a week recently and were really well treated by every member of staff (special mentions to Angelo, Nino & Ibrahim). Hotel is 1.5km from Railway Station which is walkable but there is a Hotel Bus Shuttle Service every half hour which is brilliant. Entertainment every night, great bar staff. Wide range of food at breakfast and dinner. Rooms are spotless and cleaned every day. Would definitely stay again.

What a lovely hotel and very clean, we had a balcony room on the front with a side view to the sea which was really nice, wonderful view of Mount Vesuvius from the upstairs terrace. The staff are all excellent, the food was really good with plenty of choice and always served with a smile, it’s really nice to be greeted every day by Angelo the restaurant manager. It’s in a nice area about a 20-25 minute walk into Sorrento but there’s a courtesy bus that runs every 30 minutes if you don’t want to walk. A few nice bars and restaurants only a few minutes walk away if you fancy a change from the hotel. We would definitely stay at this hotel if we return to Sorrento.

Hotel Caravel – Hotel Caravel has several positives. The location is good, with the coast and town centre around a 15-minute walk away, and the hotel also offers a free shuttle bus, which is useful. The staff were very polite, friendly and attentive throughout our stay. The pool area was pleasant enough and well kept. Our room was a double/twin on the top floor with side sea and mountain views, which was nice. However, the balcony was extremely small. There were two chairs but no table, so it was difficult to sit out comfortably with a drink. One thing to be aware of is the cost of drinks. A half Peroni was €6, which felt very expensive. As drinks can be charged to the room, it would be easy to get a surprise bill at the end of the stay. Because of this, we were cautious about ordering drinks in the hotel. The room fridge was stocked with Peroni, small Cokes, prosecco, water and wine. We initially thought these items may have been complimentary, but later found out they were charged at quite high prices. I think this should be made much clearer, ideally with pricing displayed clearly on the fridge. The food was not really to our taste. Evening meals were fixed menus with a choice of a few dishes. Some of the options felt a little too formal for us, such as rabbit, veal and duck. The pasta was okay, but not hot enough for my preference. Overall, the hotel has good staff and a decent location, but it was not quite the right fit for us. We left feeling disappointed with the holiday and actually came home two days early. Others may enjoy it more, but for us it was a bit of a “Marmite” experience.

We was at this hotel for a week in mid- April for a holiday with my fiancée. I cannot fault the hotel at all. The food and restaurant area were superb and I cannot fault any of the meals we had. We booked half board and was always a joy to look forward to the meals. A special thank you to Angelo the restaurant manager who kept everything ticking along nicely and all the staff who were very attentive to all orders and allergies mentioned. The location was great for walking into Sorrento town, its around a 20 to 25 minute walk - their is a courtesy bus that takes you there and you can book a time to return, only slight issue was that sometimes the bus was full and thus the option to return from Sorrento would take longer than expected until the next bus time being available. The rooms were of a nice size and the one we had was on the top floor, we have a view of the area which was nice. From the terrace at the top, there is a superb view of Vesuvius - and thus its well worth the visit for the view alone. We had a great stay and would look to book again in the future.
