Caravel

If you are travelling through the area and want a clean base hotel for a few days that doesn’t cost the earth and are not bothered about the quality of food, then this hotel is ok. Rooms are basic but very clean with hairdryer, shampoo/ shower gel, fridge and kettle etc. Pillows and bedding cheap, scratchy and hard. Bath/ shower adequate but basic. Small balcony adequate with pleasant view. Air conditioning didn’t work well and I would question its performance in the summer. The staff are all lovely and really do complement this hotel. The reception staff deal with everything very professionally and they offer some good trips and advice about the local area. The serving staff in the restaurant are very attentive. The public areas of the hotel are very pleasant. The bar and lounge are open, airy and welcoming. The pool area clean and the terraces are really nice with fabulous views. (Picture of Versuvius below) Location of the hotel is really good. We walked to Sant’Agnello station in about 10 minutes and from there easy to get to Pompeii and Naples. Supermarket near to station (Superio) was good for everything. There is a viewing platform over the sea if you walk the other way (5 minutes) which is beautiful (picture below) We walked into Sorrento safely most days with easy access to the ferries (35 minutes walk) and we discovered several Sorrento walks in the area up to the Capo Sorrento and further afield. We didn’t use the hotel shuttle bus as it only started at 9am but many others said it was good. We like food using high quality ingredients that are cooked well with good seasoning and flavour. In this, the hotel food was lacking. At breakfast, we found the cereal and fruits/ yoghurts selection ok but the hot breakfasts used cheap ingredients and were overcooked. For dinner servings, the starters and pasta courses were in general good but the meat/ fish courses were often inedible (over cooked fish or reheated meat with congealed sauce/ gravy or undercooked chicken) or totally bland. On reflection we decided that they were catering for the masses but a bit of flavour would be good or offer flavoured oils, or chillies at the table or a fresh salad buffet. The serving staff obviously knew that there were issues with the food and tended to brush over issues. I actually felt sorry for them. I thought long and hard about this review as I liked the staff but at the end of the day this site is here to give our honest opinions.

Ours was a 3 night stay and we were very happy with all aspects of this lovely smaller hotel. Staff were very helpful and our room was comfortable with good space. We usually only opt for room us breakfast preferering to eat out for dinner, however on this occasion we included dinner which was a good choice recieving 4 courses that was ery good indeed. Dinner each evening was a different menu with multiple choices for each course ensuring that it could be difficult to decide! Breakfast delivered for all tastes too. The restaurant team made sure that you were looked after at dinner or at breakfast. Must not forget to mention that the bar service was good day or evening. We'll be very happy to return on a future visit to the Sorrento area.

Went at the beginning of August and had the most amazing time here, the staff are amazing, Antonio the mini bus driver was lovely and spoke to us on google translate every time we were in the bus and you could book the bus at any time of the day or night to take you to the town centre which was great! Angelo at the restaurant was so welcoming and the service there was great!! The food was lovely for non fussy eaters, we enjoyed every single meal we had there. Breakfast was ok, they did hot and cold food and omelettes, the coffee was lovely we aren’t big breakfast people so didn’t mind it. The pool was great size for the amount of people that were there, if it was busy I can imagine it being more cramped for sunbeds but it was perfect for us. The rooms were airconned which was needed and had such an authentic Italian vibe, we had a pool view room which was nice because it was still covered by the tree’s! There is a beach club and a beautiful view point not for from the hotel which was gorgeous and not so expensive, the pizza there is 10/10!! Would definitely recommend this hotel and would most certainly stay here again!! I’ve added pictures of the food we really enjoyed because it was too good not to picture.

The staff are exemplary, the hotel is spacious, elegant and with some great features like the pool area, bar area, and two fabulous roof lounges with stunning views across the Bay of Naples. This hotel is let down by the quality of the food. It was plentiful but it felt that profit margins were more important than offering food that was made with any care and love. It was lacking stuff like simple fresh salads, very little veg, the pasta just tasted of salt with no herbs… breakfasts were plentiful but with zero variety. You can buy gorgeous breads for 75c for two large rolls on Sorrento . It was dull. Basic foods on offer at the hotel were dull I’m sorry to say

We have recently returned from a week-long stay at Hotel Caravel, Sant’ Agnello, Sorrento, and I can honestly say that we were not disappointed. We chose the hotel because of its amazing reviews, and it completely lived up to our expectations — and so much more. We were a large family party of 19 adults and 5 children, staying at the hotel for a week to attend our wedding. Organising a wedding with such a large group can be stressful, but the team at Hotel Caravel made our entire stay feel effortless. The hotel is family-run, and that really shows in the warmth, care and personal service we received from everyone. The staff were incredibly accommodating, friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble, and they went above and beyond to make sure that our whole family had a wonderful experience. There are so many staff members we would like to thank. I really wish I had written down everyone's names, as every single member of the team was fantastic, but there are a few people we would particularly like to mention. Angelo – Restaurant Manager, thank you so much to you and all of the restaurant team. You were absolutely excellent and always made us feel so welcome. Your service and attention to detail were outstanding. Nino – what a star! You somehow remembered all of our different breakfast drinks and preferences, despite having such a large group arriving in dribs and drabs every morning. Peppe and the bar team – you were fantastic! Always friendly, welcoming and happy. You helped create such a lovely atmosphere for our family. A huge thank you also to all of the reception staff, in particular Marilara, Giorgia and Roberto. You were always so helpful, welcoming and patient with us. And finally, Antonio, our shuttle driver – thank you! You were absolutely amazing and always so friendly and helpful. We really appreciated everything you did for us. Hotel Caravel was the perfect choice for our family, particularly for such a special occasion. The combination of the lovely hotel, wonderful food, fantastic staff and genuinely warm, family-run atmosphere made our stay truly memorable. We cannot thank everyone at Hotel Caravel enough for helping to make our wedding week so special. We would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Sorrento, and we very much hope to return one day! Karen & Gino
