This is a fabulous hotel and I highly recommend it. The rooms are large and very well appointed, and the views across to Mount Teide are great. There are extensive gardens and three pools with lots of space to chill in. The highlight is the food which is excellent. I see a few concerns in other reviews but we are here every night and the quality and presentation of the food are sensational. It is a new concept even - cordon bleu food and you can help yourself. The staff have been very charming and a special shout out to Sofia who led us in yoga and later did a garden tour.

Our stay at the hotel in La Gomera was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The architecture of the building is truly unique, giving the entire property a distinctive character that immediately stands out. The spaces throughout the hotel are large and open, which made the atmosphere feel calm and relaxed, especially at this time of the year when there are not too many tourists. Upon arrival, the front office team welcomed us warmly with a smile and a cup of fresh tea, which was a lovely and thoughtful touch after traveling. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well maintained, and our room had a sunny balcony where we could relax and enjoy the surroundings. The wellness area is a Big plus and offers a perfect place to unwind. I especially want to mention the excellent massage by Anthony: strong, professional, and exactly what we needed. To top it all off, the live music yesterday ( Singer Grol Colorado) evening created a wonderful atmosphere and felt like the perfect farewell to our stay. Overall, a memorable place with character, comfort, and truly friendly service. We would happily return. We ❤️ Balcan.

If you want lively nightlife and a buzzing vibe, La Gomera as a whole isn't really the place for you. La Bancal fits well into that laid back ethos. Yes, it is quite isolated (as others have noted, even keen walkers won't be walking into San Sebastian for dinner) and there aren't any amenities nearby. But for us that was a major bonus. We love peace and quiet and that is what we found. We had already decided to rent a car so that we could explore the island and that turned out to be an excellent decision, since it also meant we could head off to San Sebastian for dinner. I can see why people would feel that the hotel has limited soul. It's very different to a traditional holiday hotel; the designers and architects took a modern, clean, stripped back approach with lots of stone and bare concrete and a focus on sustainability (they claim to be self sufficient in electricity and from the number of solar panels on the roof I can believe it). Each to their own, but we loved it. The rooms are spacious (if a little, umm, intimately laid out!) and very clean, and the pools are fantastic with plenty of loungers and stunning views across to Tenerife. So why 4 stars? Well, I'm definitely going to add my +1 to the food critics. There are several restaurants listed but one of them is only open until 5pm, and two of the other three are closed on several nights. We had (wisely, in hindsight) gone with bed and breakfast only meaning we were able to escape on several nights down to San Sebastian by car. We were late enough checking in to the hotel on the day of arrival that we decided to go to the buffet. When almost half of the food on offer in a Spanish hotel is pizza and pasta you know you are in trouble and the fact that every item on my plate was cold (not lukewarm, cold) was a further negative. We didn't risk it again so it may be that things improved as the hotel filled up again following changeover. Breakfasts are OK, but again as others have said, the coffee is quite unspeakably vile. We had a pretty good meal at the Larrife restaurant - fine dining at very reasonable prices. Sadly even there the chef managed to provide genuinely delicious but tepid food. This is a relatively new hotel in a less touristy place. It's quiet and with stunning views. It isn't trying to offer a Playa de las Americas experience. As long as you understand that, and are happy to overlook the less than thrilling gastronomy, then it is highly recommended.
