Sol Varadero Beach

I stayed at Melia Internacional 2 years ago so I was expecting the same quality of food and services since the Sol is under the Melia chain but in my opinion, it does not meet the requirements. The hotel is average but needs a fresh coat of paint that’s for sure. The rooms are ok. The bed is comfortable however if you don’t have a king size bed then you’re stuck with 2 small beds and a normal size couple barely fits on this bed. The pillows are horribly flat, I suffer from vertigo so asked for an extra pillow and thank God I had an extra pillow from home. I really dislike the fact that there is a major lack or privacy in the washroom area, no separate door to the toilet and a huge window between the shower and bedroom. I think people forget that not everyone travels with their significant other and we don’t want to see our friend/sibling/parent naked while they shower. Another horrible thing is the blow dryer chord that is so short that you’re practically stuck to the wall while trying to dry your hair. Yes the buffet is small and the food is repetitive but you won’t go hungry, there is always something to eat but just make sure the chef at the grill cooks the chicken/pork/fish cause a few times it was undercooked so I had to speak up and tell them to cook it longer. The service at the buffet is fantastic, met some very nice staff members here and at the grill by the pool/beach. We dined at the international restaurant and it was very good. The pool is small and very shallow. Barely any shade so we did not spend any time here. The beach on the other hand is so beautiful. We always found chairs no matter what time we went. What I really disliked about this hotel is the very loud obnoxious guests who think they own the place. They are extremely loud and drink at all times of the day from morning to night so resting is a challenge. They show up at the bar and don’t care that you’re already in line, they just try to get served first. There’s a lack of nightly entertainment at this resort however there’s some live music which is ok until you realize that they really cater to quebecois crowds and they play French music…I do not go south to listen to French music. It literally felt like Quebec was transported to this particular hotel. All you hear is cursing left and right and yes I know this is not the hotel’s fault but it puts a damper on other people’s experience here. The biggest shocker at this resort is the fact that most of the staff that work at the lobby bar REFUSE to give out water bottles, they say the bottles are for the staff only…excuse me?? I have travelled south about 15 times and this is the only place that refuses to give water bottles to their guests (and yes I tipped very well every single time I ordered something). I wish I could say that I recommend this resort but I really don’t.

The room and the staff were very nice. The beach is phenomenal, it‘s very clean and the water is glasss clear. Athmospherewise it’s quiet, and relaxing. We recommend it to everyone

The hotel always improove every 6 months we come. The beach have many places et the water is perfect. The employees are very kind.
