If you're used to the Secrets properties around the Cancun and Playa del Carmen areas such as Maroma, Playa Blanca, Playa Mujeres and Akumal then you will most likely be disappointed by this property. It is not the same standard or experience by a long way. We booked this property to try something different in a different location and did plenty of research beforehand so I was aware this property had a different vibe and a unique layout, especially with not being on the beach and having a separately located beach club. However, I did expect a similar level of service across the property which in reality was not the case. The staff was the main good point, very friendly and obliging and provided a good service. The pools are plentiful and there is never an issue getting a sunbed in the resort, however that's mostly where the positives ended. The food was low quality, I generally really enjoy all inclusive food offerings so this is not a matter of expecting top class dining. A lot of the meals served were luke warm at best or for foods that should be cold like sandwich meat etc these foods were also mostly luke warm. This was across all restaurants including the buffet. It seemed like a lot of food served in the dinner restaurants was repurposed from leftover lunch or if not, then just very badly prepared. Chicken was tough and chewy, butternut squash soup was a mildly warm flavourless green cream, fries tasted like they had been fried in dirty or burnt oil and the precooked eggs at breakfast had a taste and texture I've never before experienced and never wish to agajn. I read reviews about the beach pizza and fish tacos being good but both were unpleasant and very disappointing. The best food was the fresh bread at breakfast, cookies in reception and a room service sandwich. The coffee at Coco Cafe was also just not good, at all! The resort was very quiet at times feeling almost abandoned although the few guests that I encountered around the pools seemed to all have personal speakers and were permitted to blast their own music over the poolside music that was playing, which was incredibly disruptive. There was no dress code enforced in any of the restaurants or areas as there is in the other Secrets resorts which I feel adds a nice element to dinner service but at this resort literally anything goes. The beach shuttle is quick however the times were wildly inconsistent with the hotel lobby posting different times to the beach club and then the shuttle sometimes just did its own thing outside of any times posted. There was also inconsistency in the shuttle used, some days it was a small van some days a big truck and it didn't seem to depend on the number of people requiring the service so I'm unsure what the determining factor was. If the shuttle you were waiting for was full before you go on then tough luck you had to wait for the next scheduled time which is one thing if you're in the hotel but totally unacceptable if you're at the beach club and waiting to get back to the hotel. You might be waiting up to an hour for the next shuttle. This was the final straw for me personally, it's the resorts responsibility to provide the service they state and not leave guests stranded because they can't provide an appropriate vehicle or staff for the circumstances. The beach club is nice, you need to arrive early on busy days to get a good seat but the atmosphere is great, music is extremely well curated and Jhonny from the E-Team is fantastic. Definitely ask about making some bracelets and tip him well! This is not a resort I will be returning to and it surprised me that Secrets is happy to put its name to this property. It's certainly not up to the same standards I've come to expect from this brand. If you have the option of another Secrets property between Cancún and Tulum I would take the other option every time!
Location is nice but extremely far from Cancun airport. The atmosphere was nice but the entertainment is weak. The Room was nice but some of the shower tile collapsed had to repaired. Food was average. If you’re single this is not the spot for fun. Luis was great..
The entire compound has multiple repair needs. Pool finish coming off, lots of drywall issues, terrible finish work. Was ask to pay extra for cobana even though we upgraded to preferred. Biggest complaint, hvac was bad, room hot, stuffy, humid esp at night. Moved to new room and same result. Kept asking what they could do, but never did anything about the problem.
Overall a luxurious feel. Building is a little confusing to navigate. Would like more night activities Monday thru Wednesday. Pool was amazing, lobby bar was the best service we received and the french restaurant had the best food. Get a Passion Fruit Margarita when you can.
My stay at Secrets Tulum was a mixed experience. The resort itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere is relaxing, but there are definitely areas that could use improvement. The drinks were decent and generally consistent throughout the resort. The food, however, varied depending on which restaurant you visited. Some meals were very enjoyable, while others fell short in quality and flavor. Greater consistency across the dining options would make a big difference. Cleanliness was another area that could be improved. While some areas of the resort were well maintained, there were times when housekeeping and general upkeep did not meet the expectations I have for a luxury resort. Communication among staff also seemed to be an issue. Different employees often provided different information, which led to confusion and frustration at times. Better coordination and communication between departments would help create a smoother guest experience. Overall, Secrets Tulum has a beautiful property and plenty of potential, but improvements in cleanliness, food consistency, and staff communication would greatly enhance the overall experience. PSA: DO NOT ATTEND THE TOUR TO THE JEWELRY STORE AND TEQUILA TASTING AS WELL AS THE PRESENTATION TO TRY AND GET YOU INTO A VACATION CLUB. They will scam you. (The tour to Playa Del Carmen and to Secrets Akumal)
