We visited Tivoli Alvor with our son, his wife and 3 year old granddaughter. What a fantastic hotel; friendly & efficient welcome at reception. We were able to book the a’ la carte restaurants for the week on arrival. A quick buggy ride to the rooms which were lovely, big comfy beds, a fridge with bottled water and a really nice shower. The buffet breakfast was ample with plenty of options of hot and cold food. Lunch too was great, though we took to eating in Salty where pizza, panini and toasties are served, with a buffet salad and dessert options. If you fancy a hot dog, burger or steak, you can grab that in the cook out area, and sit in Salty (or take it to your sun bed if you don’t want to miss a moment of sun. There’s icecream, coffee & cake and popcorn served in the main entertainment marquee, where the main bar is. A kids disco every day at 5:30pm and evening entertainment starting at 9pm. But, take some ear defenders, the sound level is akin to an AC/DC concert, It’s unnecessarily loud. Especially for younger ones. If you want a quieter drink Shore is open from 10am til late in the evening. If I have a criticism here it’s at the lack of family seating. There were an awful lot of high tables and stools that were often unused with couples sat at the more comfortable seating for groups. Of course they’re entitled to do that, it just made sitting with the little one difficult. During the day there are 4 pools to choose, one of which is adult only, in a quiet spot just in front of the main restaurant. Our little one loved the kids splash park where there were always sun beds available. In fact there were always sun beds available all over the site. One of the photos over looking the pools was taken at 9:20 am the other at 7:45 pm. The hotel staff were all very friendly, and particularly good with kids. If you want to get away from the pool for a while the little train/bus runs into Alvor which is a lovely little village with plenty of bars and restaurants. We booked a boat trip while we were there BUT for the caves of Benagil boats don’t leave from Alvor. We booked with Welcome Boat Trips & Fishing Who picked us up from the hotel took as to the port and brought us back after the tour. The guide was great, the tour was excellent. We took advantage too of free entry at Zoomarine, which is a brilliant day out for all. We did choose to book a taxi to Zoomarine via the Hotel which was €100 for 5 of us. An Uber would have been €60, we just preferred the assurance of a cab booked via the hotel. Just to touch back on the food: we never struggled with the buffet food, there was plenty of choice. Of the à la carte restaurants we all agreed that the Italian was our favourite, but the starter buffet at Mad Med was fantastic. We all agreed, if (when) we return to Portugal, the Tivoli Alvor would be our first choice.
EXCELLENT SERVICE Great experience Last night at roastic restaurante. Great Food and very good service thanks you Akash great service definitely comigo back again mate.
We especially want to thank Akash for the magnificent service he has given us during our vacations. From the first day he attended us with an exceptional attitude: always friendly, attentive, professional and willing to help at all times.Their closeness, education and dedication made every visit to the Roastic restaurant a very pleasant experience. He constantly worried that we lacked nothing and that we enjoyed every meal, making us feel really welcome. People like Akash make a difference and raise the quality of an excellent service to something memorable. Without a doubt, he is a great professional and one of the reasons why we will remember our stay with so much affection. Thank you very much, Akash, for your attention and for making our vacation even more special. We hope to be back soon! 👏
Just back from 9 nights at the Tivoli. The location is great there’s a train that takes you in and out of town. There were 5 pools, 3 close together with music and some fun! A adults only and a child’s pool. You can take your toddlers into the kids club and stay with them although it wasn’t up to much! The food wasn’t great, and the restaurants don’t have much to choose from either, the kids options aren’t great either! It says it’s child friendly although it’s very hilly the bottom apartments don’t have glass and have a large tiled step that was very scary when out with a 17 month old as well as stones below it. The toddler pool is not easy accessible when having a pram as it has slabs as well as stones to get in and no other gate! We had to be moved room as our first room was infested with ants although they did move us with no questions asked. When moving to another room there was also ants so we had to be moved again. We got moved upstairs where there was no lift so we had to carry the pram up and down wasn’t great. We then were told we could phone reception to get our suitcases and bags picked up early in the morning for leaving but they ignored our phone calls, when we went in to hand the keys in they were sitting chatting. Also the buggy cars speed around the resort which can be quite scary when walking with a toddler round the bends. Some of the staff were friendly although some of the cleaners were very rude. Overall we were quite disappointed with our 5 star hotel (meant to be) we thought it would be much more child friendly/ accessible but for what we paid it definitely wasn’t worth it.
Just got back from this lovely hotel . Stayed with friends in a deluxe family room . The resort and rooms are exceptionally clean and well maintained. Our room was lovely with a double and two single beds in a separate room . Slippers and robes provided . Coffee machine , fridge and water replenished daily . The cleaning staff were exceptional - couldn’t fault them at all . This room was perfect for four adults and would suit an older family . This is by and large a family hotel , but the little people didn’t worry us as the adult pool is really peaceful with its own bar . Never a problem getting a sunbed but I can imagine in school holidays this might be different. This hotel really excels in the restaurant offerings and food quality . I travel to Ikos hotels every year which are Michelin inspired and I can honestly say the food provision in this hotel is on par or on some occasions better . We went to all 3 al a carte restaurants, we loved the Italian one the most , but you won’t be disappointed at any . I’m usually not a fan of buffets but the offering in this hotel is really good and because they stagger the dining times we never felt rushed . The staff are really friendly and went out of their way to make the experience special . A shout out to Matthew Mandy who went the extra mile and managed to get me my favourite Brut Cava . Thank you also to Minhazul and Nazim at the Carosello restaurant - amazing service they really looked after us . Tiago in Shore bar made us laugh such a lovely young man . Alfonso at reception checked us in really quickly and gave us all the information we needed for our stay . The hotel offers free tickets to a water park , zoo marine with dolphins - we decided not to do this , but if you decide to you need to get your own transport. There is a daily barbecue and another buffet snack bar at the Salty bar , and a grab and go lunch with crisps , sandwiches , fruit etc - great if you want to have a picnic on the beach . The break is a short walk across the broad walk and is absolutely stunning . There is a free land train in to Alvor - runs every half hour with a midday break . Alvor is lovely and well worth a visit - very traditional. Ubers are really cheap only a few euros if you fancy venturing out . The hotel has a daily entertainment schedule which looked fun but we didn’t partake in this The only reason I have not given five stars is because of the evening entertainment for adults and the standard drinks package . There is only one bar that stays open until 11 pm - Shore bar - the seating is poorly configured as it’s a large space with lots of bar stools in the middle and a few sofas at the edges in poorly lit areas . This could be an amazing bar if the management would pay a bit more attention to detail and a thought to what couples and adults would like . The other evening offer is the marquee like structure in the car park where the evening entertainment is - we only went in a couple of times - the white party was fun - but generally not to my taste - like others have said full of children running around and the ambience was not to my taste - this too finishes early . There is noting much outside the hotel unless you go into Alvor . For a 4/5 star hotel the standard drinks package was poor , particularly the cocktail offerings which were mostly from machines - sweet and sugary . The rose wine was nice - so I stuck to that and the beer with the occasional gin fizz . They mostly served sweet sparking wine , but eventually I was able to get a Brut Cava which was more to my taste - but this isn’t available freely and I kept having to ask . I’m happy to have non branded spirits but feel the drinks unless you upgrade to premium are not what I’d expect from a 5 star hotel . They had a singer at Shore one tea time who was excellent, but I just couldn’t understand why this could not be provided in the evening at Shore bar - would be really nice to sit and have a drink and listen to live music All in all we had an amazing holiday and I would definitely recommend and would consider returning. Thank you Tivoli Alvor
