Solar da Boaventura

The rooms have no air conditioning or fans. They get really warm with the windows closed. If you open the windows- most don’t have screens so we spent two nights getting eaten alive and getting buzzing in our ears. We were told there were no fans to borrow. I had bites everywhere- including my face and eyelids. We also found some of the staff to be terribly rude and unfriendly. One, in particular, understood English perfectly but would only speak to us in Portuguese, and angrily. A true disappointment.

Hotel surroundings were nice but amenities were sorely lacking. Similar 3* hotels in the area had included a fridge, water boiler and drinking cups. We ended up borrowing the boiler and cups from the front desk. We had half board arranged. The food on the first night was terrible. Tasteless soup with chicken bits and rice. The waiter told us they ran out of potatoes and couldn't make chips. But the opposite table had two servings of chips and other tables arriving later had chips as well. We questioned the waiter who went to ask the chef who relented and gave us chips (half a portion of what others were getting). All in all, we felt like we were a burden to the cook. The next day's dinner was thankfully better. All in all, not good value, not welcoming.

We stayed here for 2 nights during our walking holiday. What a great location. Both nights our dinner was included. There is a fabulous indoor pool which was a welcome treat after our walks. Lovely bedrooms and we slept well. We ordered pack lunches and these were super.

We spent a week in the hotel. It is very pretty and clean, you get a great indoor pool and jacuzzi, staff is friendly and the food in the restaurant is good. You find at least 3 other good restaurants within a 10 minute driving distance. It is quiet and there is not much going on at night but you can play pool or play all sorts of board and card games. The garden is beautiful too and you always find a parking space.

The rooms were clean. Though, there is no fridge, no electric kettle. Good shower. Safe costs extra. There's a pool, sauna costs extra. Breakfast is very sparse. Staff seemed bored or just not motivated to work. Maybe it's better during high season. Wouldn't go again.
