To our (pleasant) surprise we were placed in a room that was almost new, and finished to a very high standard (photos below). As three adults it was very spacious - two bedrooms connected by a small kitchenette area, with the bathroom leading off it, and a balcony with sea views. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Unfortunately it seems that the manager is very controlling - staff aren't allowed to give out beach towels without his permission, but in fairness he is usually around keeping an eye on everything. Some corners are cut to save money - whilst we had nice fluffy towels when we arrived, by days 3, 4 & 5 we had very old thin towels. At breakfast we were told that if we wanted honey and/or yoghurt we had to pay extra. Likewise, if you want to use air conditioning you have to pay a 5 euro daily supplement per unit - not expensive, but why not just increase the cost of the room by 5/10 euros instead? The beds have also been bought to last - they are probably the hardest we've ever slept on. We chose Cavo D'Oro as it is one of the few small good value beachfront hotels where you can see the sea and sunset but are not overrun with tourists. Whilst you can't escape the tourists on Kos, this was relatively quiet as a hotel - we were never troubled by noise from any of the other guests. Marmari is somewhat out of the way so you should really hire a car to make the most of the island. Once the renovation is complete I would recommend this as an excellent alternative to the bland international hotels that spoil some parts of Kos.
Dobré jídlo a tiché místo. Byli jsme tam během zemětřesení a budova neukázala jediné trhliny ve stěnách.
We stayed at the Cavo d'Oro for 9 nights in September 2015 and we had a very nice week. The staff is very friendly and they like kids. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing break and want the hotel to be within five minutes walk of a small beach ideal for family with kids.
My partner and I stayed for one week at the end of June 2015. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing break and want the hotel to be within five minutes walk of a small clean beach with nice sunbeds and umbrellas then this is for you. This pretty hotel and gardens provides a good menu with a selection to suit all tastes and the hotel staff are fantastic. Maria is wonderful and could not do enough to make our week with them feel very special. The hotel owner is terrific and also very hands-on. We had a fabulous week in a spacious sea view room (206) with balcony. We were treated very well during a time of much uncertainty as Greece struggles with economic difficulties and staff had uncertain futures.
