Basic but clean apartments. A small amount of self catering equipment, I'm not sure if you coukd cook an actual meal as I didn't try. I found the bed comfortable, & a bonus that the pillows were quite thick. The owners parents were friendly with very basic English spoken. I didn't meet the daughters that own a block of apartments each. I know at least 1 lady works full time. The garden is astro turf not grass. Hot water 24 hours a day, which is unusual for apartments. Typical Greek tiny shower, with a shower head you have to hold. Water always escaped under the curtain so the floor gets wet, but that's typical of apartments in Greece too. Towels & sheets changed every other day, & room cleaned daily. There is a safe in the wardrobe which you are not charged for. A slow 7 ish minute walk to Kefalos Market & the beach. There is a small supermarket closer. I didn't mind the morning walk but I found it difficult walking back in the heat. I've booked for next year. Kefalos is a very quiet resort. Definitely not for young ones wanting to party. Plenty of restaurants to choose from along the harbour road. No taxis at all in Kefalos, just so you are aware. If you book somewhere in the old village or set back away from the beach you'll need to get a bus & they stop quite early. All in all a good place. Very typical of Greek apartments on the islands
I wouldn't stay anywhere else. I love kefalos studios. Location is great. 10 minutes to kefalos supermarket, harbour, and near the church, which is on the way to kefalos village. My 3rd stay. I was in the new part of the building this time, slightly newer rooms, with a hairdryer, and more modern design. Amazing views of sunrise over kastri island which I could see from my bed. There's a nice little balcony at the back too. Ideal for mornings when it's too hot for the front balcony. Self catering is very basic. Just hot plate, kettle and toaster. No toiletteries or anything provided, but clean, friendly and ideal location. You couldn't get a more beautiful view.
Excellent basic clean Greek studios in a good quiet location. We had a first floor room with balcony which had a distant but beautiful sea view. There were also tables & chairs which provided another view of the castle, windmill and the Old Town up on the hill. If you propped the apartment door pen there was a great afternoon breeze which cooled the studio. Linen and towels were changed regularly. The rooms were cleaned frequently. Studio is basic but has all the essentials, kettle, toaster, standard 2 ring cooker with enough utensils to get by even a hair dryer!
This is my second stay here, and my third time in kefalos. I have totally fallen in love with it. The studios are basic, but clean. Comfy beds, good shower and great location, near the church, and 5 mins from kefalos supermarket and beach. All the rooms face south, so get morning sun on the balcony. However they all have a small patio area at the front as well. Air conditioning is extra. I think €8 a night. I didn't bother, as expensive for a solo traveller, but the room was extremely hot, and I needed to keep doors closed at night because of mosquitos. The older couple who own kefalos studios are lovelly. Don't speak much English, but very friendly. Definitely would book here again.
I came here mid-end April for 10 days. The apartments are basic; bedroom with closet/bedside tables/vanity desk and mirror, bathroom with shower, toilet, sink and a kitchenette with sink, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, plug in electric hob/frying pan/saucepan/basic plates, bowls, glasses and cutlery, open plan before you get to the bedroom. There is a table and chairs at the front door to the apartments and then a back door with private balcony off the bedroom with table and chairs, ashtray and a short clothes line and pegs. It is situated close to the main kefalos strip, a short walk to the nearest shop and the seafront. It is in a quiet neighbourhood area. The background noise is the occasional dog bark, cockeral, birds, crickets, cars and bikes on the nearby road, people talking on their balconys. But all of that gets quiet after about 11pm and through the night, not really disturbing and you get used to it quickly. The only thing is the fridge is a little noisy overnight, the same as most fridges, I'm sure if you didn't want to use it, it wouldn't be an issue to switch off. The room has air con, fan and a safe at an additional charge if you wanted. The WiFi is free and password is inside the room, it worked well for the whole stay, streamed Netflix and downloaded fine. The room was cleaned every 2/3 days and I had a sheet/towel change twice during my stay. No bugs in room, clean beds. As a solo female traveller I felt very safe here and across the whole island. Very comfortable firm supportive mattress and pillow, if you suffer with a bad back you shouldn't have any issues here. Free parking space if you hire a car etc. Friendly, helpful owners. Overall I had a lovely stay here, and the price is very good, to get your own apartment, you really can't complain. KEFALOS IN APRIL Kefalos and the whole of Kos really is a ghost town in April. Which was perfect for me but may not be for others. This means about 70% of bars/restaurants and hotels are closed with lots of locals painting etc getting ready for summer season. All the beaches are pretty much empty, and only a handful of tourists or none at all at the ruins and other tourist sites. So no queues and nice and peaceful. About 1 mile up the road is the main kefalos town which has a cute little high street, with a few clothes shops, bakeries, honey shop, perfume shop and a couple supermarkets. A few cafes and a couple restaurants were open. I highly recommend the meat boutique butcher/restaurant. There were plenty of "supermarkets" (small shops) open in Kefalos that stocked most things you could need: food (chilled, frozen, cans, condiments, junk food, fresh fruit, veg, eggs- very reasonable prices, you could eat cheaply here if you are on a budget), drinks, alcohol, cigarettes, toiletries, tourist gifts, sunscreen, beach wear, flipflops , towels etc . Their were a few car hire places open, depending where you go and what type of car you get, it was about €30 per day to hire and quite economical so didn't need as much fuel as I thought. The roads are all very quiet in April so I hiked a lot of main roads to viewing points and beaches with no issue, as long as you walk on the left towards on coming traffic and you are sensible and step to the side when you hear cars, noone will beep at you and you will have no issues. If you can comfortable walk about 10 miles a day there is a lot of places to walk to in Kefalos that will easily fill up a week. There was a lot more open shops and restaurant wise in Kos town, I spent 1 day walking around Kos main town and that was enough to see the whole town and some ruins. The weather in April is hot if you live in the UK it is plenty hot enough, about 20°c every day. The nights were a little chilly. I got burnt the first day so you could definitely sun bathe. The island is very windy and the sea was quite rough no matter which beach you go to. Lots of plastic rubbish on beaches, big sea grass banks and steep shelves into sea. You won't see anyone swimming this time of year and it didn't look safe enough most places. The only place that looked calm enough was Kamari Bay and the sea front at kefalos, any harbour should be the calmest, but there is lots of rocks boulders there with sea urchins so wear sea shoes. Likewise you won't see anyone lying on the beaches because the sand is whipping across the beach. So I wouldn't come in April if all you want is beaches. I was the only person on most beaches I went to. There was a few cloudy days and a couple of overnight rain showers. Overall its hot and dry with mostly sunny days. I would come here in April if you like hiking, quiet holidays and aren't really interested in beaches or night life. For me this was the best time to go. All the islands wild flowers and herbs are in bloom, all you can smell is chamomile, thyme and pine. It smells amazing and is very green. Buses do run in keflos in April to main towns, but the timetables at the stops were wrong, so just message Ktel bus company before you go and they will send you the correct times, About €10 to go to Kos and back on the bus.
