The hotel pleasantly surprised us. It offers three clean swimming pools for both children and adults, plus water slides. There's a swimming pool and an adult area. The resort also offers mini golf, table tennis, and volleyball/soccer/basketball courts. The resort isn't a mass-produced resort, but a typical hotel in a quiet area. The restaurant offers standard tourist meals, ice cream, and drinks. The rooms are clean, with air conditioning and a kitchenette, and are cleaned daily. The beach is pebbly, but has access to changing rooms and showers. With a bit of luck, you might spot hatching sea turtles. There are two beachside restaurants with umbrellas and sun loungers nearby. There's no larger shop nearby. There's a small shop selling fruits and water/drinks. A bakery and a large shop are a 20-minute walk away on the pedestrian walkway. The bus stop is right next to the hotel, and buses run every 20 minutes. I recommend this place.

Hotel Kastalia Village Review Hotel Kastalia Village offers a pleasant getaway, especially for couples seeking relaxation in a serene environment. We arrived late at night alongside many other guests, which highlighted the hotel's staffing limitations, as only one staff member was available to assist. This led to a somewhat overwhelming welcome. Our room was a standout feature—modern, spacious, and without any issues, making it a comfortable retreat. The adult pool was fantastic, cleaned daily, and provided a great spot for relaxation. However, we found the children's facilities to be a mixed bag. While the children's pool was adequate, the baby pool was disappointingly dirty at times, and the water park, with only three slides, left our older kids feeling a bit bored after just a few tries. The dining options were average, with a reasonable variety that didn't break the bank. However, the play area could use some maintenance, as it appeared rundown. Still, our little one enjoyed the swings. Entertainment was limited, with only a couple of acts performing on Tuesdays and Fridays, which then repeated the following week. Beyond that, options for entertainment were scarce, requiring travel to find anything more engaging. In summary, Hotel Kastalia Village is a lovely escape for couples, but for families, it may not be the best choice. We found it challenging to keep our children entertained, and the location, while peaceful, is somewhat isolated. Although the beach is a short 10-minute walk away, it's not particularly inviting, being deserted and lacking sand. Overall, I appreciate the hotel's ambiance, but I wouldn’t consider returning with my family due to the limited activities for kids.

Review of Kastalia Village, Kolymbari, Crete – August 2024 & August 2025 One of the most telling aspects of hotel reviews in general, in my opinion, is how the hotel responds to criticism, whether they accept it with humility or react in a rude or threatening way. When a hotel replies with understanding and respect, it shows that they take their guests seriously and are open to improving, rather than immediately going on the defensive or accusing the guests of lying witch gives a big red flag in my opinion . The kind of response speaks volumes about the attitude and values of the management. We stayed at Kastalia Village in both August 2024 and August 2025. After reading many of the reviews here, I can definitely relate to some of the positive and negative feedback. However, there are also some negative experiences mentioned by others that I personally did not recognize at all. Personally, I have mixed feelings about both the hotel and some of the staff. Mostly positive. The hotel itself is lovely, with clean and comfortable rooms and beautiful gardens. Very nice and clean pools with plenty of sunbeds. It has separate zones for both adults and children, a nice small water park, and various self-service activities like garden chess, table tennis, and a small football pitch. They also have two beautiful old churches on the property. It actually felt really nice to come back this year, despite also having had mixed feelings the year before. This year we stayed at 3 different hotels I Chania. Kastalia was the last one, before we went back home. Most of my concerns are related to a little percentage of the staff rather than the hotel itself. The majority of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. However, a few individuals made us feel like we were a burden or simply not welcome. The same last year. It’s mostly small things like interrupting or walking away when you speak, negative tone or rolling their eyes and mostly the lack of smiles. This only applies to a small number of people (I’d say 90% of the staff are great), but unfortunately, those less friendly individuals work in key areas like the bar and the reception. Last year, I even overheard some staff talking quite openly about guests in Greek. I’ve lived in Greece for many years and understand quite a bit of the language, even though I rarely speak it myself. One thing I found odd this year was the response to the lack of wine glasses in the room. When I asked at the bar, they gave me glasses to borrow without a problem. I asked if I should inform reception, but they told me I had to ask the cleaning staff myself. I found it strange that guests should be expected to track down the cleaners for such things, especially since we were usually out on excursions during the day when the rooms were cleaned. One situation this year made me feel particularly uncomfortable. I had just left a €5 tip in the tip jar at the bar, but when I proceeded to pay by card, the bartender still asked me if I wanted to leave a tip. I found that quite awkward and unnecessary, especially considering I had literally just tipped in cash seconds earlier in front of him? So I tipped him again.. We didn’t eat much at the hotel, but the food we did order at the bar was very good and tasteful. We’ve also heard that the breakfast is excellent. We often dined at the nearby tavernas or ordered gyros and other local food through the eFood app, which offers free delivery in the area. You’ll need a car or take the bus to get to the supermarket or to more child-friendly beaches. The hotel is very peaceful in the evenings, which we appreciate. Still, it would be nice if there was a bit more entertainment, currently I think it’s only once a week. Another small thing: it would be great if the hotel had a mini-market for essentials like bread, milk etc. Kids also love visiting mini-markets to pick out candy, toys, or stuffed animals, and I think the hotel could earn quite a bit from this. The mini-market next door (does not belong to the hotel) barely has anything and was mostly dark inside, probably to save electricity, so we didn’t feel comfortable shopping any food there. All in all, we are very happy with Kastalia and think it’s a great hotel, though it could be even better with a few small adjustments (and smiles). Our cleaning lady was absolutely lovely, warm and genuinely kind. Several staff members also recognized us from last year and made us feel truly welcome. Special thanks to the maintenance/garden man that is always smiling and saying hello, one of the male bartenders, the male waiter, and two wonderful young women at reception. They were all very kind, helpful, and cheerful, and that really makes us want to come back again.

One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. • Reception staff: Rude and dismissive. One in particular constantly looked down on us, huffed whenever we asked a question, and even tutted — making us feel like we were a nuisance rather than guests. We were targeted from the moment we entered that hotel! Being a very large party, constantly being told to shut up! • Facilities: The bar claimed to be open until midnight, but it consistently closed by 11. Made out online a kids disco ( nothing of the sort). • Safety: Nonexistent. Our room door was broken and belongings went missing during our stay. • Location: Derelict. There was only two restaurants near the hotel that served dinner the other behind the hotel only open for breakfast. You would need to get transport into the next towns to even see any atmosphere. This is not advertised very well. Would not recommend this place to anyone especially a family.

We booked Kastalia Village for the majority of our wedding guests, totaling 19 people, and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. We arrived at the hotel in the early hours of Wednesday, June 25th after a delayed flight and a frustrating wait at Chania airport. By the time we finally reached the hotel, it was past 2 am. Instead of being shown to our rooms promptly, we were led around the complex, dropping off each guest at their rooms. We ended up carting 8 suitcases, a pram, and a toddler up and down stairs, and we were constantly rushed and being told to 'Hurry Up' even though we were the last group to be dropped off. This could have all been avoided as our Room was down 1 set of stairs next to reception! The issues didn’t end there. On our first night, we were quietly sitting outside our room with friends, enjoying a drink, when the night porter came out and rudely told us to “shush” and 'Be quiet!' The same thing happened the next night when the bridal party, including the bride and her mother, were sitting outside preparing for the wedding. We were shocked by the lack of understanding and hospitality. Even after all our wedding guests left, we witnessed groups near the adult pool being loud at midnight, with the staff walking past and chatting with them and offering drinks, which made us feel unfairly singled out for just having a quiet conversation. The morning of our wedding was another issue. We were woken up at 7 am by the sound of drilling from the room above us. We told reception, and the hotel did manage to stop the noise, but it was an unnecessary start to an already stressful day. The biggest issue came when we returned to the hotel after our wedding around 2:30 am. When we tried to get into our room, the key snapped in the lock. The employee at reception came down with a steak knife to try to fix it, and then told us that there was nothing he could do because everyone was asleep. We were left standing outside with our 2-year-old daughter for almost an hour. Eventually, we were given another room, but only after the reception staff had led us into an occupied room by mistake! After all that, we were told to come back in the morning to pay an additional €80 for the new room. This whole ordeal took nearly two hours, and we didn’t get our daughter to bed until 4:30 am. After discussing the issues with the Jet2 rep, we promptly asked to move hotels once all of our guests flew home after 7 days, we were told we couldn’t move to another hotel without paying €380 for the remainder of our stay. This was frustrating, as we were seeking a resolution after such a negative experience. Room cleaning was also a problem. We were given a "service key" to come and go from our room due to the snapped Key, but it was never properly cleaned. We had to ask for fresh towels and empty bins, and even then, the room was only serviced twice during our 12 night stay. Location-wise, Kastalia Village is quite isolated. The nearest shop is a 20-minute walk, and the "beach" is just a rocky shoreline with no sand at all. We had to rely on taxis or buses to get to more popular areas or even get to a shop. Lastly, we encountered several issues with staff attitudes, including a situation where a member of the bridal party was treated rudely when trying to pay for breakfast. This behaviour seemed to be a recurring issue throughout our stay, with staff often acting like we were a burden for asking anything of them. To top it all off, our passports were locked in a suitcase for the entire week as the hotel couldn’t provide a safe key. On the final morning, we realised our passports had been stolen, and when we reported the issue to reception, we were met with indifference and poor customer service. It turns out the door to our room didn’t lock properly, and we were left with no support in trying to retrieve our stolen property. After filing a police report and notifying Jet2, we discovered that the staff did not care about resolving the situation and just said to us' Thats not our problem' We deeply regret choosing Kastalia Village, and so did the 19 other guests we booked in. The location, the staff, and the overall experience were a far cry from what we expected for our special day. We wanted to show our friends and family a great time in Greece, but instead, we were embarrassed by the attitudes and unprofessionalism of the hotel. After reading other peoples reviews about the Pool bar being closed at 11pm , and them getting a response on their review that is wasn't , i have added a picture with a Time stamp which proves the bar is closed at 11pm. If you're considering booking here, we strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
