We have just come back after a 6 night stay and really do not understand the negative reviews. We got to the hotel just before lunch we couldn’t check in as our room wasn’t but we were able to put our suitcases in a room and could have lunch which was lovely our room wasn’t ready after lunch. I booked with tui and said it was our anniversary. The lady at reception when we checked in said happy Anniversary to us which was lovely and then we got to our room we had a bottle of cava and a plate of fruit waiting for us really lovely touch and made a great start to our holiday. We had an amazing time the hotel is in a great location very clean the staff very friendly and they work very hard. Entertainment is only on Thursday Friday and Saturday off peak we went home Saturday so had two days but it was great. Food we had no issues plenty of choice in the restaurant but if not the snacks were amazing. The breakfast was particularly good. There has been mention of lots of children in groups but this is a sports hotel and we had no issue with them. We will defiently be returning I want to go in the outside pool it looks very appealing we did go in the inside pool that was nice but not that warm although the jacuzzi was lovely and warm. Great hotel

The **Albir Garden Resort** in L'Alfàs del Pi (near El Albir, Alicante, Spain) markets itself as **Spain's largest sports resort**, particularly targeting professional athletes, sports federations, and larger groups of mostly young athletes. It promotes extensive sports facilities, including options for football, athletics, tennis, swimming, and more, which indeed attracts these kinds of groups seeking affordable accommodation close to training amenities. However, this focus on volume and low-cost stays appears to come at the expense of basic quality, maintenance, and ethical standards. My room and the one of my neighbors was worn-out, and in need of significant updates—far from what one might expect even from a budget-oriented resort. Cleanliness is superficial at best, with many areas showing signs of neglect. Most disturbingly, the property is home to a large colony of feral cats roaming the grounds, including around pools and guest areas. These animals are not properly cared for: they lack sterilization, regular veterinary attention, or humane management. Tourists sometimes feed them, but the cats frequently show clear signs of suffering—fleas, ticks, injuries, broken limbs from escapes, and indications of mistreatment. Reports suggest the management resorts to trapping them as a cheap "solution," leaving them confined for indefinite periods until they "disappear" with unknown fates, rather than addressing the issue through proper animal welfare channels like neutering programs or partnerships with rescues. When I raised these concerns at reception and attempted to discuss them with management, I received no meaningful response or willingness for open dialogue. While the sports setup may suit groups prioritizing cheap beds and facilities over comfort or ethics—and some families or athletes overlook the issues for the price—the overall experience is disappointing and troubling. The neglect of basic hygiene, room conditions, and especially the inhumane treatment of the animals makes this place unacceptable for anyone who values cleanliness, animal welfare, or a decent stay. I cannot recommend Albir Garden Resort to anyone in its current state. I would be open to revising this view if the management ever demonstrates real changes, such as improving maintenance, addressing the cat colony humanely (e.g., through TNR—trap-neuter-return—programs), and showing genuine accountability. Until then, look elsewhere.
