Occidental Puerto Banus

Had an amazing first stay in this hotel but will definitely be back. Have already recommended to friends and family. Ready to book a return trip

I arranged a golf tour with 23 of my friends and we all stayed in single room accommodation at this property. I last visited this hotel in the early 2000's when it was the PYR Hotel. Since then is has obviously been bought and renovated and is a great hotel for golfers visiting this part of the Costa Del Sol. The hotel offers a very good breakfast and the rooms are very good with all the modern amenities. There is an added advantage that there is a fridge, kettle and sink in every room, which is handy. There is also a reliable safe in the clothes cupboard. This property is ideally located in Puerto banks but with all its charm and attractions there is a negative element in evidence and I would suggest you ovoid these areas of Puerto Banus. On this point there were two major concerns I had with this hotel. 1) Security is an issue in that there is none at The Occidental. Anyone can access the room floors and we had three negative incidents during our stay. Furthermore the pool area is not controlled and its was evident that young girls not staying in the hotel were making use of this facility. 2) The attitude of some staff is questionable, this applied in particular to the female pool attendant and some of the reception staff, which does need addressing by management. Other than these issues I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and give it a 5-star rating.

We stayed here for a 10 day Trip with Gate1 Travel and couldn’t be happier! Great location, beautiful room and the food at the Hotel was very good. Staff very helpful and friendly with every need I had. Would only stay here if in this location again.

I stayed at this property while on a tour. Room 3-203 King bed (2 beds pushed together). Large room. Mini fridge, water, rooms faces alley No robe or slippers, iron and board. No robe or slippers. Shower only. USB ports. Wi-Fi spotty. Breakfast not many good choices for vegetarians. Menu did not vary for 7 days.

Someone gained access to our hotel room while we were asleep. Extremely disappointing and concerning experience at Occidental Puerto Banús Marbella. During our stay, an intoxicated individual was somehow given access to our occupied room during the night and entered using a key card. This was not a staff member, but another guest, which made the situation incredibly alarming and a major security concern. The most worrying part is that this demonstrates a complete failure in room access and guest verification procedures. For all we know, someone could have accessed or occupied the room while we were out. Imagine if it was a female being along ? Thankfully nothing more serious happened, but the potential consequences of such a mistake are obvious. The incident caused significant distress, particularly for the person staying with me who suffers from severe anxiety and has since needed time away from work due to the impact of what happened. To be fair, at reception handled the situation with professionalism and empathy when we reported it, and I cannot fault conduct. However, the overall response from management has been disappointing once emailed. I formally emailed Barceló Hotels / Occidental Puerto Banús regarding the incident nearly two weeks ago. Apart from one initial response acknowledging “human error” at reception, nothing meaningful has since been done to rectify the situation or provide an appropriate resolution. A hotel’s most basic responsibility is ensuring guests feel safe in their rooms. Unfortunately, after this experience, that trust has been completely undermined.
