This hotel has some really good points but also some quite bad points. Firstly the good. The staff are all friendly and very considerate on the whole. The waiters around the pool, especially heykal and Omar, are really attentive, remember who you are and what you drink and are constantly on the go. There was a young guy who worked behind the world bar (forgot his name) who was also really friendly and chatty and a credit to the hotel. As others have mentioned the entertainment team are also really involved and are great with the kids. Special shout out to sousou who ran the kids disco every night we were there (10 nights) and never seemed to have a day off or break, a real superstar. The food was surprisingly good. A very varied choice even if there is a bit of repetition after the 7th night as it loops back round again. Breakfast was a bit on the disappointing side but that was more my preference and compared to other all inclusive places I've stayed in. There was a lot of choice and vegetarians/vegans and kids seemed to be well catered for. The drinks were a bit hit and miss, the local beer is drinkable but the spirits are all unbranded. Someone who is used to certain spirits will notice the difference in taste but on the whole they are not bad and the barmen are not shy with the measures if you ask them nicely! Now to the bad points. The hotel and rooms are very tired. It looks like it's not had a scrap of upgrading done on it since the day it opened. Decor is very worn in places, our room had a cracked tile on the balcony and plug socket fittings were hanging on for grim death. The biggest issue though was with the air conditioning. As others have mentioned the hotel policy is apparently that they don't usually turn the air conditioning on until mid July. This made the first 5 or 6 nights completely unbearable at times as the air conditioning just dragged through humid air from outside. We asked for a fan at reception pretty much every day as went with young children however we were told these were limited and we could only get one when someone that had one left. By the 6th day I think enough people had complained about the lack of AC that they actually made an announcement over the PA round the pool that the AC would be being turned on that night (to ironic cheers from most around!) This however caused a further issue as when we first turned the AC on in our room the unit began gushing water into the room from the roof. We went to inform reception of this to be told that "it happens every year when they first turn the AC on" and that it "usually sorts itself out". After complaining to the guest manager who was on site the hotel did send maintenance to our room within 20 minutes and they did stop the leak so can't fault them on that however I felt if we'd not kicked up a fuss we'd have been expected to just deal with it. Another issue was the beach. This is around a 5 minute walk down the road (there is a minibus that will take you if you want). The beach is very hit and miss. On the one hand the sand is lovely and clean but this is on vast contrast to the sea which can only be described as discusting. On the day we went down there was someone racking out various rubbish including bottles and nappies! We went once and that was enough! To summarise this hotel does have some good points but also some bad. Would I go again? Probably not, but at the same time I wouldn't say don't go here.
