We stayed here for 10 nights in May half term as a family of 4 (x2 daults and x2 children aged 8 and 5).
We booked this hotel because it is rated 5 star by Jet 2 and had 5 star rating on Trip Advisor. I was dubious as there was a lack of information and lack of photos on the ad (solely focused on the villas). And, although there were limited reviews, we took the risk and booked. The location and relaxed vibe of this area is 5 star, it really is beautiful, but as the days went on the multiple 'little' things led to a lot of frustration and stress. Therefore, the Batihan Vadi cannot be classed as a 5 star hotel. We are used to staying in 5 star resorts where we have had top notch experiences all round.
I have listed our pros and cons below. Lots of them are easy fixes and with these things being improved would truley make it an amazing 5 star holiday. However, had i of had this information, I would have not booked. I hope this helps people currently looking to book.
Pros:
Setting - surroundings in the mountains are gonestly just beautiful
Animals --really beautiful and friendly
Villa - good size inside and outside - private garden in the sun, pool (good size) and self fill tub, Air con - very good, mini bar filled daily.
Vibe - Relaxed, quiet, laid back atmosphere
Communication - What's app msg system to send queries or ask for a buggy to be taken to the restaurant etc (we walked though)
Facilities - Gym, spa and indoor pool facilities
Animation team - entertainment staff available at the drop of a msg to take you to do archery, basketball, mini golf - we enjoyed all of these
Restaurant - excellent presentation and taste of food
Attentive to children
Cons:
Setting - taxi required to go into town, but it is only 10mins/10 euros each way, nothing to do at the hotel, no evening entertainment. Most things were closed at the hotel apart from at the weekend when the locals came to use the restaurant or use it for a party I.e. no atmosphere, it was being described like a derelict town. I appreciate the season was just starting.
Animals - cats jumping on table in restaurant amd the staff were feeding them left overs, ducks swimming and pooing in the pool!!!
Villa - poor quality of cleaning, constant stagnant water smell (poor drainage), no tea towel or draining board in kitchen - cleaners just swill glasses and leave to drip dry on the side instead or replacing, liquid hand soap in bathroom was empty for the duration of our stay despite asking for it to be filled and being told 'ofcourse sir' it still didn't get done.
Pool - freezing cold, Told us they couldn't heat it! Almost unbearable to even go in!!
Communication (there is so many examples i could write here) - Lack of general info given i.e. the light switches in the villa are very confusing, all digital - no explanation about any of this, or where the safe was or how to use it, or how the air con worked. I had to ask about check out details after waiting a week to see if we would be informed (see below). False info given - dietary requirements (see details below). There was a very poor level of English speaking and understanding - leading to regular delays and multiple mistakes i.e. the restaurant had x2 waiter interpretingto the others. Also a real lack of staff understanding of process - I.e. what is/isn't all inclusive always told you cant have this beer but then someone else servint it to you. We were made to feel a burden daily when it came to the restaurant just for asking for things that were on the menu and there was no initiative to find answers (see below). Went to lobby bar (24/7) to ask for milk for a coffee in the villa as it had a nespresso machine with pods - it was too early for breakfast etc, was told 'no' as noone was on the bar and the receptionist couldn't walk 10meters to the fridge to get the milk!!
Kids club - you can't call it this - there was no interaction or engagement from staff. It looked closed all the time, if you opened the door to go in, they said hello and left you to watch your kids play. Zero effort! We were told they can't open trampolines as there was only x1 15 year old trainee working for kids club and she couldn't leave the room, even when I said I'd take responsibility for staying with and watching my own children!
Play area - few plastic toys for toddlers only!
Animation team - no base for them to actually entertain guests - and amphitheatre would be great. X1 night they tried to host a mini disco in the bar, the tech was set up in front of the bar and wires were across the floor with no space for anyone to try to enjoy themselves.
Restaurant - wrong orders brought daily i.e. x3 bowls (9 scoops of icecream) for x1 child, and meals missing from orders daily, Set menu only which was the same for lunch and tea everyday - so very repetitive - not good of you were a fussy eater or had dietary requirements. The menu was printed on paper and pages were worn and not readable if someone had got them wet - almost no fresh fish on the menu at all - bream or bass - that was it!! Restricted breakfast options but if you like eggs you'll be fine. No options or understanding of special dietary needs I.e. dairy free - always wrong stuff brought i.e. cream on top of milkshakes and cheese on top of pasta, things on the menu not available, made to feel a burden if ask for filter coffee, ask what vegetables can be cooked - the answer 'don't know', super slow ordering process and no room for amending orders. One day i was told to be quiet because the manager was listening when I asked for another coffee because it wasn't drinkable!! I spoke louder and said, 'good' he needs to know this!! No snacks available anywhere ike fruit, nuts, crisps apart from to buy from a shop but the cashier couldn't speak English or even have an understanding of currency etc.
4 power outages - no electricity, WiFi or air-conditioning.
X3 water outages and constant issues with water temperature and pressure.
Late checkout fee - flight home was midnight, checkout time is midday. No where to go for 8 hours until transfer pick up. We were told we could keep our villa until 6pm for 200 euros! We had this for free when i reiterated that it is unacceptable for a 5 star hotel to have te4 days with limited electricity and X3 occasions with no water, and, refused drinks etc as AI!
Dairy free - specifically enquired about options before arriving. Was told they cpuld cater and had vegan icecream etc. Only x5 cows milk icecreams available, no vegan icecream at all, no ice lollies, all deserts available were dairy based unless we had fruit. This broke my heart seeing my little one missing out! Previously at other 5 star hotels in Turkey, we have spoken with chefs and they have made soya based deserts specifically for our daughter. We have been given allergy cards etc too. They have no understanding of this here.
There is a real lack of leadership and management here which is a shame because is has real potential.
