We are currently staying at the hotel (first time visit for us) Hotel is nice but needs some maintenance improvements. The main problem we have experienced after being here for 2 days is not being able to get a sun lounger. We awoke at 7am this morning and all the beds are taken. The hotel are not applying their “no reservation of beds rule” and i expect this is difficult to move the towels when they charge a deposit if €10 each. The umbrellas are fixed to the ground and limited so doesn't allow much shade protection. Lots of beds didn’t get used until well after lunch yesterday so this is very disappointing. Stacks of reserve beds and moveable umbrellas would resolve this issue - but the hotel doesn’t have this option. Came for a poolside holiday but so far, no luck!

This was our second visit to the Costa Calero as All Inclusive Prestige Customers. We took the Prestige package as it states that you can have a late checkout (subject to availability) Free . This suited us as we had a very late flight. During both visits we never managed to get a late checkout as "the hotel was too busy". The hotel hasn't changed one bit since the last time we were there 3 years ago (apart from the recently refurbished reception). If you want a sunbed near the top pool you will have to be up bright and early. I noticed people putting towels down as early as 0630 every day we were there! The same people had the same sunbeds every day. We were prestige and found sunbeds every day no problem, in the prestige sunbed area. The prestige sunbed area is nowhere near any amenities though. It's a long walk to the nearest bar and toilet , and is not near a pool. We had a superior room on the 5th floor and it was decent. Clean , spacious, and a lovely view. The aircon was decent too. Whether you are prestige or not , you will still need to queue at bars and meal counters at this hotel. The staff are nice and try their best but there just isn't enough of them. We had one a la carte meal. The food and service were good , but the menu was very limited and it felt like the staff were hurrying you along so that they could finish their shift. Over all, the hotel , staff, and location of the hotel are very good, and we enjoyed our stay there , but I doubt I'd return as I need an assured late checkout , and this hotel cannot guarantee one. If I were to return , I would not pay the extra cost of going prestige as I don't think it's worth it.

Spent 4 days here with my daughter for some R&R. We were upgraded to a suite and the room was ready at 12noon when we arrived. Beautiful hotel - food and drink are very good with lots of choice and dudes bonus of a trip to the day spa for 2 hours as part of our stay. My only gripe really - which did take the shine off the stay is that this hotel allows sun bed hogging - it was verging on the ridiculous that sunbeds were clearly getting reserved either the night before or well before 7am. If you wanted to sit near the main pool/bar areas or lower pool where children tend to go. I never saw one free sunbed for 4 days in these areas and that was getting up at 7! I normally don’t agree with reserving sunbeds but we literally had no choice as there was very little left after breakfast time… the hotel really needs to get on top of this as lots of people just couldn’t get anywhere to sit but loads of sunbeds with towels on them and no one there and often not turning up all day…they need to start removing towels after a few hours and free these up.
