Our stay at Fergus Hotel Puerto de la Cruz was extremely disappointing and fell far short of what you’d expect from a 4-star resort. The hotel was overrun with large groups of teenagers on school trips, leading to constant noise day and night. The atmosphere was chaotic, and it was impossible to relax — the students took over the sun loungers and monopolized the pool and common areas. Our room was in a terrible state. It had a foul, sewer-like smell that made it very unpleasant to stay in. To make matters worse, we found a sock from a previous guest, clearly showing that the room hadn’t been properly cleaned. The air conditioning was broken, and although staff did attempt to help, the maintenance worker admitted there was nothing they could do. My pregnant partner was left uncomfortable in a hot, smelly room — completely unacceptable. The food was another major letdown: bland, repetitive, and severely lacking in quality. One night, they even served raw chicken legs and undercooked meatballs, which is simply dangerous. The evening entertainment was dull and uninspired — there was more atmosphere in a care home. It felt like an afterthought rather than something designed to enhance guests’ experiences. While some staff members were friendly and tried to help, the overall experience was extremely poor. This is nowhere near the standard of a 4-star hotel, and we left feeling completely dissatisfied. I would strongly advise others to avoid this hotel if you’re hoping for a relaxing or enjoyable holiday.

Stayed at Fergus Hotel in May 2025 in a standard double room. The highlight of our stay was the staff – they were fantastic throughout. Always helpful, genuinely friendly, and quick to assist when problems arose. Nothing was too much trouble. That said, we ran into several issues that impacted our stay. Firstly, the hotel was hosting large groups of teenagers on school trips. We weren’t informed of this when booking, and ended up on the same floor as one group – noisy, running around at all hours. I don’t blame teenagers for being teenagers, but guests should be notified in advance. We requested to move rooms, and the staff accommodated us. Unfortunately, the second room had a broken air conditioner (which couldn’t be fixed), and a foul smell from a blocked drain. The smell was dealt with quickly, and we were compensated for the air con issue – but it’s worth noting the air conditioning system is very outdated and unreliable. We also found a dirty sock from a previous guest left behind in the room, which didn’t inspire confidence in cleanliness. The food was the biggest letdown. Beyond being repetitive and bland, it was poorly organised and served in a canteen-like setting. Worse still, we were served raw chicken and undercooked meatballs at dinner – a serious health concern. I honestly can’t understand the positive reviews of the food. With excellent local restaurants just a short walk away (many serving authentic Canarian meals for under €10), you’re far better off eating out. Do yourself a favour and book bed & breakfast only – or skip the food altogether. Other things to be aware of: • Sunbeds are a hassle – guests leave towels on them all day and disappear. • The entertainment is painfully bad – low energy, awkward, and just not enjoyable (we stayed a few nights for a laugh, but even that wore thin). Overall, I give Fergus Hotel 2 out of 5 stars. The staff are excellent and Puerto de la Cruz is a beautiful town worth visiting, but I can’t recommend this hotel as it stands. There are better options in the area.
