Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora has genuine highlights — the pools and coastal setting are truly spectacular. But for a resort charging five-star rates, there are too many areas where it under-delivers, and some staff interactions that were frankly unacceptable. I’ve stayed at comparable luxury resorts elsewhere — including one in Hawaii at a lower price point — that offered better room quality, better amenities, a proper accessible beach, and a more relaxed atmosphere. This resort photographs beautifully, but it didn’t deliver the peace and quality the price and marketing promised. The southwest coast location is beautiful, with Atlantic views and La Gomera visible on clear days. However, the property is vast — expect a 5–10 minute walk between the furthest points. The surrounding town has very little to offer beyond a restaurant or two (3 Raíces Steakhouse is good), but there are several lovely towns within a 10–20 minute drive that I’d strongly recommend over eating on-site. Important: the hotel beach is entirely rocky. There is no sandy beach here. A nice black sand beach is about a 5-minute drive away — factor this in if ocean swimming matters to you. Hotel parking is €12.50/day, but free street parking is available right nearby with plenty of spaces. I paid roughly £400 a night in a Deluxe Partial Ocean View room over Easter (with only breakfast, nothing else included). Clean and comfortable, but not exceptional for the price. The shower is a real letdown — dated, musty, and the rainfall head is positioned so close to the door that water floods the floor every time. Not what you expect at this level. The room photos on the website are also misleading. In person, the rooms are significantly more dated than the photos suggest, and specific furniture items — such as the sofa — appear modern and elegant online but are noticeably older in reality. My friend and I both had the same dated sofa despite being in different room categories, neither of which matched what was shown on the website. Given that one of us had supposedly been upgraded, this felt like a bait and switch. If you’re booking based on the photos, temper your expectations considerably. One further note on bedding: the duvet is not in a duvet cover but is instead layered between two sheets — apparently a common practice in some European hotels to speed up room turnovers. The duvet slips loose from the sheets easily, which raises obvious hygiene questions given how infrequently it’s likely to be fully washed. Worth knowing if you’re travelling from the US and not accustomed to this practice. Be aware: the southern side of the hotel overlooks a large parking lot. My friend booked a suite and ended up with that view — worth flagging at check-in. The pools are the standout feature. There’s an enormous resort-length infinity pool, a kids’ pool, a kids’ splash pad with slide and an adults-only pool. However, the infinity pool is unheated — in April it was quite cold, and I wouldn’t count on it being warm enough outside of peak summer. The other pools are heated, so the adults-only pool is the better bet if you prefer warmer water. The infinity pool is large enough that you can find a quieter corner, but children are permitted in it. If you’re travelling as an adult seeking peace and quiet, be warned: this resort is very family-heavy, and children are permitted in almost all areas. The one adults-only pool is tucked away with no ocean view, which somewhat defeats the purpose at a resort in this setting. As an adult traveller in my late thirties, I found the constant noise genuinely difficult to escape. I’ve stayed at luxury resorts at a lower price point that were better quality, had a proper beach, and offered a far more relaxed atmosphere. This place looks exceptional on paper — I really wish I had dug deeper before booking. This package is significantly less generous than it first appears, and crucially, the limitations are not clearly communicated to guests. Only three restaurants are included: the main buffet (used by all guests for breakfast regardless of package), an Asian restaurant, and an Italian. All other on-site restaurants are excluded. Most bars close at 5pm. After that, cocktails, mocktails and the full drinks menu under your all-inclusive package are only available at certain designated bars — not at restaurants, which serve only house wine and beer. There are no mocktails available at restaurants whatsoever. My friend was never told any of this at check-in. She also tried to book restaurant reservations before arriving and was told it wasn’t possible until check-in — and that reservations weren’t necessary anyway as walk-ins were welcome. At check-in she was told the complete opposite: nothing was available except a 9:30pm slot. She had a young child with her and had to argue her case, citing the contradictory information she’d been given, before she was finally accommodated. No apology, no acknowledgment of the confusion. Compared to all-inclusive resorts elsewhere — particularly outside Europe — this package offers poor value. Food on-site runs to €20+ for a basic meal; beers are around €9. Five minutes away in town, a beer is €3.50 and the food is better. Most staff were friendly and well-meaning, but the inconsistency and misinformation were a real problem. The most troubling incident: my friend noticed my room had been upgraded to include a whirlpool and asked if the same might be possible for her. She was told those rooms were adults-only. This is false — there were children in the rooms on both sides of mine. When I raised this directly with the front desk and asked why they had told her something untrue, they had no answer and offered no recourse whatsoever. For a five-star property, that is not good enough. Bottom line: The pools and setting are genuinely beautiful and worth experiencing. But too much else falls short: no sandy beach, an unheated infinity pool, outdated and misrepresented rooms, a very family-heavy atmosphere with limited adult-only refuge, an all-inclusive package full of undisclosed limitations, and a staff culture of misinformation with no accountability. If you do book, skip the all-inclusive, use the free street parking, rent a car, and explore the nearby towns for food. And if you’re an adult traveller hoping for a peaceful, high-quality retreat — look elsewhere, or go in with significantly lowered expectations.
Hotel sam o sobe je nadherny. Zvenku, uvnitr, atrium, zahrady, bazeny, ta nejvic top bufetova restaurace, i vetsina cisniku a lide z recepce jsou mili, krasne to vsude voni ... Hlavni bufet restaurace - uzasna!!! Sushi restaurace = tragedie! Cekali jsme 1/2hodiny nez nam dali vodu, dalsich 15min na kartu, ostatni hosty dosle po nas pritom obsluhovali. Personal neprijemny, az arogantni. Jidlo chabe, se sushi x japonskymi delikatesami nema co cinit. Obdobne strasne i Osa bar na veceri.
We had such a wonderful stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it, especially for families. Our room 4004 was spacious and comfortable for our stay, and I loved having my morning coffee on the balcony over looking the grounds and mountains. We stayed as a family of four with children aged 7 and 11 bed and breakfast. The pools were absolutely lovely, and the children’s pool being heated made such a difference on as it meant the kids could enjoy it comfortably even on overcast days. The splash pool for little ones was great too, My favourite was the main huge fresh water pool. Direct access to the lovely little beach ( and hotel beach bar/cafe) with yummy food! The pool towels were all very clean and new looking. Breakfast was great and full of variety from pastries and fresh baguettes, fruit selection to eggs Benedict, omelettes and cereal. The kids loved the pancakes and fresh smoothies! The staff were all very friendly, polite and willing to help with any questions even recommending nearby restaurants to try. There were so many activities included, which really added value to our stay. We particularly enjoyed the candle making session, as well as the morning yoga and Pilates classes—they were a great way to start the day overlooking the sea. The kids loved the pool inflatables and the padel boarding. The hotel itself is beautiful, with well-maintained grounds that make it feel like a real retreat. Loved the icecream counter and different pool bars! The onsite shop also has everything you might need and a small supermarket is only up the road. Lots of car hire choices to explore the island from the hotel. Overall, a fantastic stay and we would definitely recommend.
This is not a 5 star hotel, in-fact I’d struggle to rate this as a 3 star. The service is appalling, especially around the pool area. We payed for the Bali beds for 4 days. It took 2 hours to get a menu and a drink and we only received cushions for the sun loungers 2 days into our stay. On more than one occasion when we went up to the pool bar to ask for a drink at 1min before opening we were shouted at and told to go elsewhere. We had money to spend but yet couldn’t spend it as there was no service. When we did actually find a waiter we felt like we were a hassle to them. There are queues for everything we booked half board and ended up eating in the town outside the hotel a lot of the nights as the restaurants apparently are fully booked. Strange as on the one occasion we did manage to get into a restaurant it was half empty. Rooms smell of damp, snd there is no turn down service that you would expect from a 5 star experience. The food is okay but not great, do not come if you are looking for 5 star restaurants. Overall v disappointed and not worth the large price we paid. Will never be back.
Lovely hotel but showing signs of wear and tear- especially in the bedrooms. This was our second visit and we noticed that the food was not as good as before. We were AI and ate in Asian, Italian and Oasis- unfortunately not impressed with quality. Lunch in Agarve was great , as was buffet breakfast. Dinner in buffet was disappointing as food was often cold. Desserts were delicious! Ice cream station by the pool was very good quality. Cocktails were great and beer always cold! There was always a small queue for buffet and lunch but we never waited long for a table. Wonderful service and helpful staff- shout out to Mechelle (restaurant desk) and Franco (adult pool) absolutely brilliant - thank you. Overall a great stay but food not as good as a few years back.
