Pestana Quinta Do Arco Nature & Rose Garden

We had 3 nights booked at an AirBnb in Porto da Cruz. Our first day we did some exploring and got directed to the rose gardens here. We toured the beautiful grounds and gardens and then the Rose Garden and decided to ditch our last 2 nights and stay here. Some of the best gardens we’ve seen on Maderia (even beating Monte Palace in Funchal). Great pool, nice sized rooms and beds. A quiet little town that we could walk through the town and to several lookout spots not far away (one of the only spots we stayed in Madeira that we could walk near our stay). The restaurant is very nice (don’t miss the Vichyssoise or duck or Passion fruit Mousse). Wish we had stayed here longer!

This is a hidden gem - an oasis of flowers, gardens and charm. This was by far our nicest hotel experience in Madeira, as this felt like a vacation within a vacation. Surrounded by the aroma of flowers, plants and the sound of running water, we instantly felt like we were transported into another world. A relaxing and heavenly one.

The old part of this hotel needs a complete overhaul. Then it could be quite charming. Rustic and authentic but dilapidated. Should not be calling itself 4*

Amazing place, wonderful staff, highly recommended

The hotel is located in a stunningly beautiful and rural location facing mountains and the coast and each apartment sits on its own in lovely garden surroundings. It was next to the famous rose garden which unfortunately was closed. The apartment was spacious and adequate for our needs and even had a small hob and fridge and kettle which was very useful. The apartment was clean and cleaned every day. The location was wonderfully quiet and peaceful and we could hear frogs croaking at night. The breakfast building ( Roseira Tea House) was a short 5 minute walk away and we ended up eating most of our evening meals there too as without a car it was not really possible to get to anywhere else to eat in evenings. Although we managed to get around on buses, they take ages and are not very frequent, you really need a car to make the most of being in this hotel. We did a lot of walking but because roads are so steep be sure to bring walking boots and walking sticks if you’re walking. The service was fine - staff can organise car hire if needed. It would have been good if there had been organised excursions from the hotel. The breakfasts and evening meals were great and not too expensive. We unfortunately very bad weather in March and it rained every day but this we were told was very unusual for this time of the year.
