First time here in Crete and the hotel is located in a quiet location surrounded by mountain views and a view of the coastal bay. It is up a slight hill about 10 min walk from the small coastal village of Almyrida. Plenty of Tavernas,a bakery, supermarket, gift shops and icecream parlour. There is a car hire/motorbike shop and we ourselves hired a quad bike. Wished I had hired a car and could've seen more of the island.Chania is definitely worth a visit. The hotel itself has had mixed reviews,we found it "adequate" for my wife and me. Yes the hotel is a little bit shoddy in places but don't let that put you off, we got what we paid for, the food was plentiful, lots of local dishes, the Feta is lush. The staff work hard and we noticed this, they are there ALL DAY! Drinks at dinner are extra and you can also purchase drinks, light snacks from reception. There is also a pool bar which serves alcohol. Sadly you cannot get a coffee at/after dinner? I would reccommend the hotel for the scenery and budget conscious. Thank-you to the lovely KIKI ❤️

Three Stars, No More, No Less Almyrida Villages calls itself a 3-star hotel. And to be fair, that’s exactly right—it’s just three, no more, no less. We had a “superior” room with a sea view. The balcony with sea view was indeed superb. The room itself? Well, “super basic” might be a better description. There was a small fridge on the floor as if someone had forgotten it there, an open shelf for your clothes—handy, because you could already pick out your outfit for the next day from your bed. The suitcase? It had to improvise its own spot on the floor. The beds were comfortable, but the shower was quite an experience. Officially a “massage shower,” in practice it was Russian roulette with hot water alternating with ice-cold. Perfect for anyone who wants to start the day with a free sauna and an ice bath in thirty seconds. The air conditioning worked perfectly. Housekeeping was excellent, with beds made daily and towels and linens changed regularly. The reception staff did everything to help, very nice. Breakfast was “adequate,” provided you had the energy to politely ask every time if the bread, omelet, or yogurt could be refilled. Tripadvisor is full of compliments for “Kiki” and her team, but we got the impression they might have written some of those reviews themselves; we mostly noticed they were very good at being invisible. The pool, on the other hand, was fantastic: large, clean, and with enough loungers to make you feel like you were really on vacation. Location: 500 meters from Almyrida sounds close, but the climb back up makes a rental car not a luxury, but a necessity. Luckily, the village is full of tavernas where you can eat well and affordably, plus a few small beaches. Want peace and prettier beaches? Drive ten minutes to Kalyves. In short: a nice base for trips in a beautiful area. Not luxurious, but definitely a holiday feeling. Three stars, deservedly so.
