Zanzibar Bay

First time we visited Zanzibar, the resort staff very friendly and were very helpful as our booking through the travel agent were not send to the resort,also very accommodating. The food delicious the idea of a buffet is brilliant as you can pick and choose what you want to eat for breakfast lunch and dinner. Will recommend travellers to go for all inclusive package. Will be nice if all rooms got a refrigerator.

I liked the lovely resort, many nice places, bars, 3 restaurants, delicious food and drinks, 3 pools, very friendly staff. What a great pity that ebb was for a long daytime, but the hotel offers a free shuttle to the lovely Kiwengwa Beach, 30 minutes alway!

We had a fantastic stay at Zanzibar Bay Resort and Spa, we used this hotel as our base to travel around the Island and to visit all the all the well known tourist attractions and many not so well known. The hotel staff were amazing super friendly and couldn't do enough to help and make our stay as good as possible. A special mention to the Animation Team who were smiles all day and never stopped providing fun, humour and an opportunity to see and try different things. We loved the Jetty Bar area, great way to enjoy a Sundowner. As per other reviews the beach is blighted by sea grass and the famous Zanzibar tides mean the sea goes out a long way, this did not impact us in any way, loads of amazing famous white sand beaches only a few minutes away either by taxi or the hotel shuttle bus. Ensure you bring sea shoes and you can enjoy the low tides and do some exploring in the bay. We found an amazing local guide (Eddie) who helped us get around and made our visit to Zanzibar all the more special, make sure you look out for him on the beach. Typical huge resort for mass tourism. kindness is everywhere and people are there to make your journey the best possible and will be ready to serve in case of... but few issues to report: - some parts of the resort can miss water very quickly: take your shower as soon as possible at the end of the day - no triple room in zanzibar bay resort. if offered by your travel agency take care. they will add a convertible bed or a cot...not luxuary standard... - the beach is nice but covered of seaweed. swimming here is not cool... - no snorkling here in case you were wondering. you will need to go north (45 min drive) but there, it will be over crowded... To conclude, nice for 2 days to rest after a safari trip but definitly not the paradisiac spot you may look for...

This hotel has the potential to be really good. However it is a gamble whether you make you trip without becoming ill. We later found that they have a doctor permanently on site. There are some very nice touches to the resort. The pier and jetty bar open 24 hours is really good. The locals on the beach are very friendly. You certainly feel like you are experiencing Zanzibar. The tour and excursion staff are really helpful and are an asset to the location. Provided us with 2 great excursions that were truly memorable. Sal is the guy to go to. So friendly and not pushy at all. Fantastic experience. The food looked and tasted good however after becoming I’ll with a stomach upset that lasted 10 days and required antibiotics we started to notice that the hygiene standards were lacking and needed attention. We did visit the reception team to enquire about medical assistance and the staff member laughed and made fun to her colleagues of our situation. The tables were dusted down with the dirty napkins from previous guests and no cleaning products used at all. The glasses were only swilled with water before reusing. The heat lamps in the food court were replaced whilst we were there as they were of no use and served as purely decorative effect. The food in the snack bar definitely needs avoiding as it is Luke warm with no temperature management and for meat this is less then adequate. We later observed bar staff getting ice from reused coke bottles that they had used to create ice. They broke the bottles to release the frozen water. Shocking. There was some extensive work underway and the building noise continued for the whole duration of our stay. Later when we raised this with the hotel management team they informed us that they had not been made aware of any of the issues that we had raised with the TUI rep. They actually said they could have taken us to a remote island for a break if they had been made aware. Some of the staff were very rude and seemed to be there to enjoy themselves rather than entertaining guests. We actually witnessed some bar staff ridiculing a guest that was dancing. The sun-beds around the pool needed attention and had quite a few faults. At one stage we touched a handrail on the way to our room and it collapsed leaving us with a potential drop from the 1st floor. The hotel is in a great location but I would not recommend visiting as it is just not worth the hassle and pay a bit more to go to a better quality resort.
