Matemwe Attitude

So what a way to spend turning 40 (February). Yes this hotel was new and finding its feet but we had an incredible time. The staff were all great, from the bar staff/gardeners/waiting staff, even the GM was an absolutely superstar ( small issue with the shower which was sorted very quickly). Big shout out to Romeo who was from Mauritius and there as party of the customer services. We had the ocean front villa, which if you're going to upgrade is definitely worth it, huge amount of space, turndown service and a great plunge pool. This is our third stay at different "attitude" hotels and will continue to try and get to all of them.

My wife and I stayed at Matemwe Attitude for our honeymoon, and it exceeded every expectation that we had. From the moment we arrived, up until the day we left, we were made to feel so welcome by every single member of the team. The level of customer service here is truly second to none. We could tell that everyone genuinely took pride in making our stay special. We stayed in one of the Deluxe Villas, and it was everything we hoped for and more. The privacy and seclusion were exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon. It felt like our own little sanctuary, where we could completely switch off and enjoy each other's company without interruption. The views were absolutely breathtaking. It's the kind of place that instantly puts you at ease. And don't get us started about the food. Every meal was fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared, with plenty of variety throughout our stay. We found ourselves looking forward to every breakfast, lunch, and dinner. What really sets Matemwe Attitude apart, though, is the people. Every interaction was met with genuine smiles, kindness, and hospitality that made us feel less like guests and more like family. Without a doubt, this has become our favorite place in Zanzibar, and we'll be recommending it to everyone we know. We're already looking forward to coming back again. We had an absolutely wonderful time at Matemwe Attitude and enjoyed every single day of our stay. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, we felt genuinely welcome. The resort itself is a dream. Everything is brand new, beautifully designed, modern, spotlessly clean, and very well thought out. You can see how much attention has been paid to every detail, creating a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. The entire team was incredibly kind, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile to make every wish come true. No matter who we met, there was always a warm smile and a friendly word. It truly felt like being part of a family rather than staying at a hotel. A very special thank you to Dai for teaching us three different versions of the traditional Bao game. We had so much fun, learned something new about the local culture, and will definitely continue playing Bao at home. It was one of the highlights of our holiday! A heartfelt thank you to Amina, who took such wonderful care of our room every day. Everything was always perfectly clean, and her kindness and warm smile made every day even more enjoyable. A big thank you also to Nelson for the spontaneous Tuk Tuk ride around the resort. It was such a fun surprise and created another unforgettable memory. Thank you to the chefs, the restaurant staff, the gardeners, the reception team, and everyone else behind the scenes. Every single person contributed to making our holiday truly special. We leave with beautiful memories, relaxed minds, and full hearts. Asante sana to the entire Matemwe Attitude team! We will definitely come back one day.

We have recently returned from our holiday and have a mixed review. The resort itself is beautiful, the staff attentive and we loved the food. I would like to mention Justina in Fukwe, Maryam, Victoria and Lilian in Chakula Chakula and Anthony in Upepe. We had a seafront villa which itself was beautiful, the issue we had was the sun was on our villa until around 12.30, it then disappeared- this wouldn’t be an issue if we could visit the pool, unfortunately if you didn’t have a towel on a sunbed by 8am, the chance of getting around the pool was slim which was a little disappointing, the vegetation around the resort is beautiful, it does however mean that the pool area had restricted sun. A tip for anyone travelling to the resort - take a beach towel, you are allowed 1 towel per person a day which doesn’t fully cover the sunbed, The resort is around 1 hr 45 from the airport so this is also something to bear in mind when booking trips. The resort is in its infancy and still finding its way, I have no doubt that in the future this will be one of Zanzibars finest.
