Matemwe Attitude

We spent a week in this wonderful resort in the height of the rainy season, however, only on one occasion did we need to modify our plans in a week. The resort is beautifully laid out, and, in keeping with the rainy season, was very green and lush. We stayed in villa 34, which was fantastic with the swim-up pool. We were particularly impressed by the Managers' Party on Day 2, the setting was great in gorgeous weather and it was unique to be able to talk to managers at length to get the gist of the place. A big 'thank you' to all the managers for the event. It would be very difficult to single out Staff Members as everyone was wonderful, but Justina and Faidha grew very close to our heart. James, Said, Abdi, Alice Stewart were also very nice and provided excellent table service. Suresh, Executive Chef deserve praise, together with his sous chefs. Our room lady in Villa 34, who provided the most respectful cleaning service with a smile. Last, but not least, all the wonderful people whom we did not have the privilege to meet in person (chefs, cleaners, gardeners) who quietly, in the background, make this resort astonishing. We will definitely be back. As a closing thought: there are some truly pathetic negative reviews on the resort's website, e.g. "limited choice of wine". In my opinion, on an island where 98-99% of the residents are of the Muslim faith, we should be grateful that wine (and alcohol generally)l is served at all, for the non-Muslim guests' pleasure. I want to congratulate everyone for their effort who make this place an excellent choice for a chill-out, relaxed tropical holiday.

We had a wonderful stay at Matemwe Attitude for our birthdays. The hotel is faultless, the food, drinks, entertainment, pools, room, grounds, and not to mention the staff who were all incredible!!!!! Our trip was made special by so many members of staff, a huge thank you to everyone!! Special mention to Mwana, Nasra, Adbi, Sabrina, Alice Stewart, Nelson, Odongo, Danny, Hassan (we’ll see you in Milton Keynes hopefully soon) and every other member of staff who made our stay so special!!! We cannot fault any of you. We will return hopefully in the future and will try safari again and hopefully see the big 5 this time! Thank you Matemwe and Zanzibar for being such a wonderful place filled with incredible people and giving us memories to last a lifetime! A must is a day trip to Stone Town with a tour guide, and a day trip safari over on mainland Tanzania. We also had a romantic beach dinner for my birthday and it was amazing, an evening to remember. The hotel will do anything they can for you, and anything is not too much of an ask which we loved but in a very grateful way. The food options in restaurants is amazing. We were all inclusive so didn’t have to pay for anything (bar the beach dinner) so it’s definitely worth it as you get à la dinner at Fulwe included which is a much for lunch, and dinner! Try the cocktails too, so delicious. The evening entertainment is amazing, never fails to deliver especially the African dancing on Mondays and the Maasai dancing on Tuesdays. The daytime activities were great too, we loved painting with Mwana and the art man who is so great! Thank you Matemwe for filling our hearts with so much happiness and love for our birthdays! Everything about our short stay was exceptional—from the stunning villas that offered both comfort and elegance, to the incredible professional staff!

I had high expectations based on the pictures i had seen, but the resort exceeded all of them. I had planned to stay for one night but ended up leaving four days later. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were nice and clean, and the buffet was amazing. The resort had cocktails for the guests, fun activities daily such as Swahili classes, henna painting for the ladies, live band and a Marine biology education centre. It truly is a hidden gem.

Our stay at Matemwe Attitude Hotel was truly unforgettable. We were celebrating 25 years of our engagement, and the team went above and beyond to make it incredibly special. They organized a beautiful candlelit dinner on the beach, complete with a 4-course meal—made even more magical by the full moon on April 2nd. It was a moment we’ll cherish forever. We stayed in a Couples Villa with a private pool, which offered pure relaxation and privacy throughout our stay. Every detail was thoughtfully handled by the entire hotel team—from the General Manager, Mr. Ravin, to Chef Sumesh and team (chef Musle), who ensured all our vegetarian meal requirements were perfectly met. Minishop in the premises was like convenient store where you pick drinks and bites/snacks for your room. We would highly recommend this hotel to any couple looking to celebrate a special occasion. It’s the perfect place for creating unforgettable memories filled with romance.
