Matemwe Attitude

The Most Beautiful Place We went to Matemwe Attitude resort in April 2026 to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We were completely impressed from start to finish. The greeting from staff was amazing throughout, the food was amazing with a great selection at the main Buffet and Fukwe restaurant, not to mention excellent room service selections. The room was amazing, exactly as advertised, we stayed in a garden room villa which offered amazing amount of space and privacy / seclusion. We spent time in different areas around the resort including the main pool area, the private beach, Spa facilities and the Upepo bar. Also went on a sea exploration with the marine biologist on site (Shadrack) which was just amazing. I must give a mention to the staff who were all amazing and made our stay a 5 star experience. A special mention to Tobias, who was amazing and on hand to help with any queries, Justina made the most amazing cocktails, Fahida amazing service and conversation, Gervase amazing service and of course our main bar man John who was absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend this resort, and hope we can return again in the near future. Best holiday I have ever had than you Mattemwe Attitude.

This was by far the best resort and spa experience EVER. I loved every single minute of it. From arrival to departure. From check in to check out. The staff was super friendly. The food was delicious. A huge thank you to everyone, staff, management, chef etc.

We have just returned from Matemwe Attitude and I can’t recommend it more highly. Our swim up room was beautiful, and due to it being low season we had the pool to ourselves as for the first few days there was no one else in the villas around us. The food in the restaurants was delicious and plenty of choice. The service overall was excellent however I think the speed of the service particularly in the bar may be affected in high season. This may also impact the ability to secure sun beds around the main pool as I am not sure if the hotel was at full capacity whether people would struggle to find space which is the only reason I have not given the resort five stars. Everyone of the staff were friendly and helpful and I can’t thank them enough for among our stay so memorable. I also want to mention the visibility of the management on the resort who were always around and checking on our well being which is not often seen in other places we have stayed.

We spent a week in this wonderful resort in the height of the rainy season, however, only on one occasion did we need to modify our plans in a week. The resort is beautifully laid out, and, in keeping with the rainy season, was very green and lush. We stayed in villa 34, which was fantastic with the swim-up pool. We were particularly impressed by the Managers' Party on Day 2, the setting was great in gorgeous weather and it was unique to be able to talk to managers at length to get the gist of the place. A big 'thank you' to all the managers for the event. It would be very difficult to single out Staff Members as everyone was wonderful, but Justina and Faidha grew very close to our heart. James, Said, Abdi, Alice Stewart were also very nice and provided excellent table service. Suresh, Executive Chef deserve praise, together with his sous chefs. Our room lady in Villa 34, who provided the most respectful cleaning service with a smile. Last, but not least, all the wonderful people whom we did not have the privilege to meet in person (chefs, cleaners, gardeners) who quietly, in the background, make this resort astonishing. We will definitely be back. As a closing thought: there are some truly pathetic negative reviews on the resort's website, e.g. "limited choice of wine". In my opinion, on an island where 98-99% of the residents are of the Muslim faith, we should be grateful that wine (and alcohol generally)l is served at all, for the non-Muslim guests' pleasure. I want to congratulate everyone for their effort who make this place an excellent choice for a chill-out, relaxed tropical holiday.

We had a wonderful stay at Matemwe Attitude for our birthdays. The hotel is faultless, the food, drinks, entertainment, pools, room, grounds, and not to mention the staff who were all incredible!!!!! Our trip was made special by so many members of staff, a huge thank you to everyone!! Special mention to Mwana, Nasra, Adbi, Sabrina, Alice Stewart, Nelson, Odongo, Danny, Hassan (we’ll see you in Milton Keynes hopefully soon) and every other member of staff who made our stay so special!!! We cannot fault any of you. We will return hopefully in the future and will try safari again and hopefully see the big 5 this time! Thank you Matemwe and Zanzibar for being such a wonderful place filled with incredible people and giving us memories to last a lifetime! A must is a day trip to Stone Town with a tour guide, and a day trip safari over on mainland Tanzania. We also had a romantic beach dinner for my birthday and it was amazing, an evening to remember. The hotel will do anything they can for you, and anything is not too much of an ask which we loved but in a very grateful way. The food options in restaurants is amazing. We were all inclusive so didn’t have to pay for anything (bar the beach dinner) so it’s definitely worth it as you get à la dinner at Fulwe included which is a much for lunch, and dinner! Try the cocktails too, so delicious. The evening entertainment is amazing, never fails to deliver especially the African dancing on Mondays and the Maasai dancing on Tuesdays. The daytime activities were great too, we loved painting with Mwana and the art man who is so great! Thank you Matemwe for filling our hearts with so much happiness and love for our birthdays!
