Matemwe Attitude

We had a wonderful stay at Attitude Matemwe and couldn't fault a thing. The setting is absolutely beautiful, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to switch off and enjoy the surroundings. The food was exceptional throughout our stay, with every meal being a highlight. The staff were friendly, attentive, and always willing to help, making us feel genuinely welcome from start to finish. Service was consistently excellent, and every detail seemed well thought out. Overall, the experience exceeded our expectations. From the stunning location and delicious food to the warm hospitality and peaceful atmosphere, it was a truly memorable stay. We would highly recommend Attitude Matemwe to anyone visiting Zanzibar and are already planning our next trip.

This is paradise. The whole atmosphere is laidback luxury. The views of the sea and Mnemba Atoll are amazing from all of the eating areas. The rooms are beautiful, with their own pools and great views. Everything is thought off and no idea why this is classed as 4 star - definitely a 5 star resort experience. The food in all restaurants has been great. I’m vegetarian and plenty of options. My youngest son (18) was keen to try lots of seafood and has eaten a great assortment. There are two beaches, a couple of public pools and lush gardens to enjoy. Over and above this, the staff are attentive and helpful and make the holiday special, enjoyable and relaxing. If I ever come back to Zanzibar on holiday, I’m coming back here!

We stayed here during the first half of our honeymoon and we had a great time. The room (swim up) was by far the best part of this hotel, the pool was amazing and the decking area felt spacious. The room itself also felt very spacious and clean. We only opted for half board at this hotel since we were going to be out and about most days. Lunch and drink prices seemed fair (5$ for a beer, 5$ for a cocktail and lunch ranged from 15-25$pp) The food itself was good. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all available from the buffet daily. I would say the buffet did become a bit repetitive towards the end since it was quite a small buffet and there wasn’t too much variation day to day. Lunch had an option to order off of a menu around the pool or via room service and was tasty. Dinner also had an a la carte option every day as long as you booked in early enough. This again became a little repetitive for us, but the food was tasty and the chef was flexible if we requested any tweaks. The entertainment was slightly lacking as it tended to just be an evening singer / DJ every night. This didn’t seem to be popular as most nights the bar area wasn’t particularly full. The staff were always friendly and happy to help. Antonia on reception was especially helpful and definitely stuck out to us. The beach is nice, but since we had a swim up room we opted to stay there most days. One thing we liked about the hotel is how sustainable it is. They recommend washing towels less regularly but you have the option to clean daily if you wish. There is also no single use plastic at all. They provide reusable water bottles that can be filled up at the numerous water stations dotted around the hotel. There is some construction going on at a neighbouring building, however this didn’t bother us much as we weren’t in a villa close by. We also wouldn’t say it was particularly loud at the main pool or bar area either, it more just became background noise that we blocked out most of the time. The hotel grounds themselves are amazing. They have really integrated nature with this hotel, keeping alot of plants in the area which is nice. There was also alot of birds, lizards etc which didn’t bother us and it was quite nice to see.

The hotel has a beautiful, traditional yet modern aesthetic. It feels very warm, calm and relaxing. Hotel was very clean, not only the rooms but also restaurants and food. Although we arrived early, we were able to have breakfast and check into our villa. What stood out the most was the amazing staff, they were really attentive, always made sure we were happy and always very very friendly. The only thing which bothered us a little bit was the beach. Lots of sea urchins and algea, that made it hard to go into the water. However all in all, we had an amazing, relaxing honeymoon and were sad to leave on our last day. We will gladly come back!

We loved Matemwe Attitude - the deluxe villa was comfortable and huge, really well decorated. The private pool was a great luxury. All food was very good and the beaches are quiet and safe. Activities on offer were good, however some didn't go ahead due to weather or low participation as we went in shoulder season. Staff all very friendly and attentive and made our stay exceptional. Would recommend this to anyone.
