My Boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel last month, and while the property is beautiful, well-designed, and the staff were friendly, our overall experience was very disappointing. On our second day, we had dinner at the steakhouse “The Yua Grill,” and shortly afterward I developed severe stomach pain and spent the entire night vomiting. The next day, my condition worsened to the point where I could not keep any food or liquids down and became extremely weak and dehydrated. We had to visit the hotel clinic, where I received 2 IV treatments and medication. As a result, I spent almost the entire vacation in bed and we had to cancel all planned activities. I was unable to enjoy any of the amenities we had paid for, including the pool, the sea, and the all-inclusive food. At the end of our stay, we were presented with a medical bill of around $1,000, including an additional $150 charge for a “medical examination in the room,” where the doctor was present for about two minutes, only checked my temperature, and then told us to come to the clinic. When we spoke to the hotel manager, we felt completely dismissed, as he immediately tried to deflect responsibility and denied any possible connection to the food, despite the timing and circumstances. We were told that I had been tested for salmonella and that it was negative, and therefore it could not be related to the hotel’s food; however, food poisoning or gastrointestinal illness can be caused by many different bacteria, or poor hygiene not just salmonella… We didn‘t feel taken seriously, and no meaningful compensation was offered. I travel frequently for work (3-5 times a month) and regularly eat abroad all over the world, so this is not due to a sensitive stomach… While the hotel itself is beautiful, this experience, and particularly how it was handled by the Hotel Manager, left us with a very negative impression.

We had a wonderful stay at Meli Hotel. The service was excellent, the food absolutely delicious, and we truly enjoyed a very relaxing and pleasant weekend. A special thank you to Chef Alan for such a warm welcome and great hospitality — it made our experience even more memorable. Highly recommended!
The best hospitality ever the place is amazing the staff is so so friendly. Service was amazing food was amazing will go back anytime
The hotel and grounds at The Mora are beautiful which is to be expected as it used to belong to Emerald but this is where the luxury brand ends. The food is just awful and my husband got food poisoning. We don’t know whether we caught it in the grill or the buffet restaurant but quite a few guests were also complaining of upset stomachs. There’s a doctor on site who’ll happily hook you up to an iv drip but at a price… Staff are plentiful but badly managed and disorganised with guests often left waiting for service, getting wrong orders and having to go and get their own drinks or coffees. We mentioned this to the food and beverage manager who told us that staff were new and in training. We lost some of our possessions during localised flooding. The hotel was not prepared for the weather and nobody put out any flood defences or checked whether guests were ok despite rainwater and sewage from the drains coming under the doors into ground floor rooms whilst people were sleeping. Whilst we were later offered a new room due to ours being inhabitable, some of our possessions and clothing were destroyed. The hotel took no responsibility although 3 days later offered to launder some of our contaminated clothing (following intervention from our tour operator) but this was only a few hours before we were due to check out and came too late.
