We had a lovely stay here for just over two weeks, mid to end of March. The staff are what stood out the most during our stay, they all went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. Special mention for Jennifer, Ziada, Chesalina, Sia, Emmanuel & Deus! Truly lovely people, the housekeepers & beach-bar staff were also great. Things that stood out - staff, the beach (its pristine), not having to worry about getting a sun-bed in any area of the hotel at any point each day as they were readily available. The food was amazing, lots of variety in the buffet & the beach and Japanese restaurants were 5*. Rooms were comfortable and spacious and the turn down service each evening was a nice touch. Grounds of the hotel are immaculate. Things to improve in my opinion - upper management who actually run the hotel, seem to charge very excessive prices for any additional services (spa, day bed). While we were here, we booked a romantic dinner package for the evening of our wedding, the food & service was of very high quality but for the price we paid, the set up was disappointing. Although when we mentioned this to staff they tried their best to make this more like some of the other beach dinner areas which had fairy lights etc. Evening entertainment was hit and miss, not much to do. Appreciate we were here during the start of the rainy season though so maybe it’s more lively at other times. The hotel did run out of beer for a few days during our stay due to Ramadan, which was fine but for a 5* hotel you’d expect this to be planned ahead. Overall it’s very luxurious and if some slight areas I mentioned were improved, we would definitely return!

We had an amazing stay at The Mora Zanzibar. The resort was fantastic - very clean, with great vibes and a really welcoming atmosphere. The rooms were lovely and comfortable, and there were plenty of activities throughout the day. The app was also really helpful and made it easy to see what was happening around the resort. The staff were all super friendly and made our stay extra special. Patrick and Paul from the main restaurant were especially wonderful - they were so friendly and engaging with my son, which we really appreciated. The shisha lady was also great, although I’m sorry I forgot her name. The spa was excellent, and our couples massage was amazing. Arturo and Lilian did such a great job, and we felt incredibly relaxed afterwards. The all-day gelato was another big highlight! The deep sea diving courses on offer were also very good. My wife did the deep sea diving experience and said it was absolutely surreal, something she will never forget. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend The Mora Zanzibar to anyone looking for a relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable stay.

We booked Mora, upon the recommendation of our longstanding travel agent and because it was recently operated by Emerald of whom we had prior experience in the Maldives. We had planned 11 nights here. Regrettably, and at huge oncost we left with 4 nights remaining choosing to stay at another hotel (see Xanadu report). This is no longer an Emerald experience, more in keeping with the TUI brand who now own it. This is not in my well-travelled, yet humble opinion a 5-star resort. The issues are management not the team on the ground, who for the most part are diligent and obliging. We booked an Ocean view suite, choosing to avoid the one that has a huge hot tub in the middle of the room. Our allocated room was not to our liking and only with a Giraffe neck could you see the ocean. Next morning we asked for a change of room. At first, we were greeted with an upgrade fee of $100 per night, then thankfully we ran into Deman (Guest Experience), who took charge and fixed our problem with no fuss and no charge. The new room did offer an ocean view and the rather redundant hot tub. Don’t imagine uninterrupted views, because of the peculiar design of the complex, all the dining facilities are between the accommodation and the beach. This makes for an ugly vista plus, as we learned, many steps to reach your choice of dining. Dinning There are four restaurants to choose, food was acceptable but not stand out as were the wine pairings. All Inclusive The all-inclusive package was meagre, wine choice limited and only local liquor. The claim is an all-suite hotel, which normally implies a room where you can relax peacefully with a glass or two. The in-room mini-bar was lamentable, a couple of beers and juices and no snacks. Rumour has it that the hotel ran out of beer and for 3 days our mini bar was not restocked. Be careful, the online promise is for a well-stocked bar and snacks. When I asked to swap out the beers for wine I was met with a $35 charge. Make no mistake Mora is a money factory, their modus operandi is to extract every dime from their guests and provide the minimum of experience. We were there during low season. I can’t imagine high season, the pools are inadequate to accommodate the number of guests, though there is a beach option. Zanzibar; again in my humble opinion, is not quite yet guest ready. For us (and others I gather), the online Visa pre-application did not work, resulting in delays and anxiety upon arrival. They insist on a $50 pp charge for medical insurance, which is robustly checked. The Immigration team were borderline hostile, and our luggage had been riffled through with some stuff taken. Add to that a 90 minute drive across some of the poorest roads ever ridden on and I’d say this is not yet a Maldivian equivalent experience. I hope for sake of the frontline team, that TUI get there act together and watch for the unnecessary penny pinching. Also watch out for the charges, amongst the group we joined the delta of room charges was extraordinary. For us this is not keeper and we will not return.
