Astra Village

We have had a fabulous 7 night stay at this hotel. The room is basic - two singles pushed together - but very clean. There is a fridge, a TV and the air con is great… especially after being by the pool all day. The shower is alright, doesnt like to settle on a temperature but not enough to worry about. We have a balcony overlooking the road and little Taverna opposite; there is a little clothes line with pegs to dry towels etc. The reception staff are friendly and helpful and always happy to help with booking taxis etc. The bar/restaurant team are lovely, always welcoming and quick to take drink orders etc. We were AI and this will probably be the last time. We dont use it enough and did find ‘our’ drink options were really limited against the standard drinks menus. I like a cocktail and had a choice of 4… the main menu had a page full. I do find that a bit strange when we have paid more than enough and should be offered a wider selection. We tried to get a bowl of chips for lunch and were told we couldnt as they werent on the AI menu… same when I asked for a milkshake. I get that money has to be made but to be denied a bowl of chips… seriously?! Anyhow… the food was lovely - always fresh and kept topped up for those eating later. The Greek salad was beautiful! Location wise… I didnt do my research and we were a bit far out for an evening walk to anywhere other than Ammes Beach. We love an ‘after dinner’ wander and we didnt want to venture left out of the hotel as there were no footpaths! If you want to just chill, its perfect but if you want a evening stroll, theres not really many options. The pool is gorgeous. The beds are so comfy and the atmosphere is lovely. There is no pre-6am dash with towels - despite the hotel being busy, we always got a sun bed and saw the days through with visits to the pool with a book. Its beautiful. The hotel could do with getting some “do not disturb” signs for the doors. The cleaners are amazing but we were disturbed twice when we didnt get to the door quick enough! Not a problem but might be kinder for the guests to not have to worry about being disturbed during an afternoon nap. Thank you Astra Village!

We loved Astra Village Hotel so much we have already booked for June 2027. Mr & my Husband wanted a comfortable, clean & relaxing hotel & it did not let us down. The sun loungers were incredible, very thick like a mattress. The pool was warm & clean. The location isn’t the best but it was good enough for what we wanted out of our holiday. There is a local bus which takes you to the capital Argostoli. It was a little hard walking from our apartment up to the amenities as it’s a little steep & no staff to help with luggage. The breakfast was gorgeous. Fresh fruit, continental & hot food. Dinner wasn’t that good but the salad bar was lovely with traditional Greek feta & a fresh selection of different salads. Puddings were just too nice. Staff friendly. Roll on June 2027 x

We had a fantastic stay here! The location is right next to the airport (about a 5-minute drive, and the car rental place was a 3-minute walk from the airport) and within walking distance of the beach and tavernas, with a couple of little convenience shops nearby (you have to buy bottled water in Greece). Atmosphere & Pool The atmosphere was very peaceful and felt like a private campus. The cats are super friendly, probably because they want food! Even at full capacity, it didn’t feel super busy, and we didn’t struggle to get a sunbed when we went to the pool a few times. The pool is clean with showers and super comfy sunbeds that are thick like a mattress, a bench in the shallow end to sit and read, and easy wide concrete steps to get into the pool (the deep end is about 6ft). There is a view of the sunset from the pool which was beautiful, and you can see it from the bar area and at dinner too. Prices at the bar are decent—a double gin and a cocktail cost about 24 euros, and they are very generous with their pours! The Wi-Fi signal is great and works pretty much everywhere in the hotel. The Rooms We booked the standard room. It has enough space, and while we had no view other than out onto the hotel area, it was still lovely to sit out on the balcony, which comes with pegs and space to hang towels and swimwear. • The Good: The air conditioning was great, it was spotlessly clean (housekeeping usually does it in the middle of the day when people are out), and the bathroom was lovely and modern with great water pressure and temperature. You get a sink, fridge, cups, kettle, a safe, and you can ask for an iron if you need it. Sleep wasn't an issue as there wasn't any excessive noise, and we couldn't hear anyone else other than furniture being moved. • The Quirks/Cons: I can see why the rooms might look better in the pictures than they actually are. Our double bed was two singles pushed together that kept moving apart, which meant we essentially slept separately the whole trip. Also, there are no toiletries apart from hand soap. Food & Service Breakfast was great with lots of options, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Dinner was decent—if you go to dinner around 8:00 PM, you can watch the sun go down perfectly from the hotel restaurant! There are lots of great fresh salads, plenty of options for hot food, and they cater to vegetarians as well as offering some kids' food like chips and nuggets for fussy eaters. There are lovely desserts, and they try to vary the food options every day. We weren’t completely blown away like I have been at other hotels, but it’s pretty good (though I still think nothing beats a 5 euro gyros in a local taverna!). However, you can’t bring water into dinner, so you have to pay if you want it, which I found very odd. One waiter wasn’t happy that we had brought water with us from our day out. You get water at breakfast, but they turn off the water machine for dinner. I understand paying for alcohol, but water? It costs 1.70€ in the restaurant, but the shop next to reception sells double the amount for just 0.90€. The reception staff were so helpful, especially when I had to contact a restaurant about leaving my wallet there! They also looked after our suitcases when we had a late flight in the evening so we didn’t have to lug them around all day. One surprise was that you have to pay the tourist tax in cash only—a week for a couple cost 70 euros. Everywhere else took contactless payment as well as cash, and a waiter by the beach even said it was odd we had to pay cash. Car Rental Tips Parking is super easy at the hotel. You should definitely rent a car in advance; we booked quite late and paid £400, but it was worth it. We went with Rent A Car Kefalonia—they didn’t ask for a credit card and had no extra charges, and we didn’t have to clean the car other than bash out some sand, despite something hanging off the bottom of the front of the car! A lucky escape I think, but we paid for the extra insurance, and it was easy to walk to from the airport in about 3 minutes. The roads can be difficult in some places, and Greek drivers are a menace—they fully drive in the middle of the road at crazy speeds around bends! Rent a small car, trust me. Parking is easy in most places apart from Myrtos Beach, which gets so busy that you have to park up the hill and walk down. Exploring Kefalonia Kefalonia was beautiful, and even at the end of July, I didn’t find any of the tourist spots super busy. Here are some of our highlights and tips: Assos & Dining: If you are a couple and have money for a boujee restaurant, book Sevoro in Assos for the most gorgeous sunset pics! Book for 7:00 PM and turn up on the dot to get the best seats, but you only have about 2 hours before they try to move you along. Fiskardo & Boat Tours: Fiskardo was the best place we visited—very instagrammable. Booking the Fteri Water Taxi was the highlight of the trip; it took us to Amidi, Fteri, and Kamidi beaches while passing by some lovely spots to take photos. These are perfect beach places to get some Instagram pics in relative privacy, because it can feel awkward sometimes on the busier beaches! Beaches & Water Gear: Antisamos: Lovely with really easy parking and no problem getting a spot. Skala: Alright if you want to do some water sports, but there isn't really much there to walk around. Go to Azra Restaurant on Skala Beach for affordable food, and note that canopied sunbeds were only 20€. Emplisi Beach: Gorgeous, but no sunbeds there—just rocks. Essential Gear Tip: You must take water shoes, or you will really hurt your feet! You can pick them up for only about £7 on Amazon. Also, bring a waterproof bag or phone pouch for the beaches so you can take your valuables, phone, and keys right into the water with you instead of leaving them unattended on your towel! Budget Tip: Buy a beach umbrella from the shop next to the hotel for 11€ and save yourselves paying for sunbeds if you’re on a budget. Otherwise, we paid around 20€ on average for sunbeds, though they expect you to buy food and drinks, so you end up spending about 40€ for a day at Antisamos or Skala Beach on comfortable sunloungers. Caves: Make sure to go to Melissani Cave BEFORE 10:00 AM to get ahead of the tour buses. We queued for about 40 minutes when we got there at 10:15 AM, and parking was carnage—every man for himself with no clear parking spots outlined! Drogarati Cave is impressive, but so quiet no one was there; it's cheap and okay if you want to see it, but it didn’t blow me away. Overall, this is a good all-round hotel that is great for both families and couples. Thank you, Astra Village, for a wonderful stay!

I have traveled all over the world, from five-star luxury resorts to simple overnight motels, and I can honestly say this property ranks among the very best I’ve ever experienced. It is absolutely at the top of my list. The owners and their family are regularly on the property, and their pride in the hotel is evident in every detail. The staff is outstanding friendly, professional, and fluent in English as well as several other languages, making every guest feel welcome. The location is ideal. It’s an easy walk to the beach and perfectly situated for exploring the island. Argostoli is just a short drive away, and the opposite side of Kefalonia is easily accessible, making this an excellent home base for your vacation. Its close proximity to the airport is another major advantage. The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained and impeccably clean. The pool is spectacular, always spotless, and surrounded by comfortable, high-quality furniture. There are plenty of places to relax, including inviting lounge areas, a foosball table, a pool table, and even a library where guests can exchange books in multiple languages. The food and bar are excellent, with very reasonable prices, and the sunsets are simply breathtaking. In fact, the sunset alone is worth the trip. The attached photo says more than words ever could. If you’re visiting Kefalonia, I truly don’t believe you can find a better place to stay. This hotel offers everything you could want comfort, hospitality, convenience, exceptional value, and an atmosphere that makes it incredibly easy to relax and enjoy your vacation. For me, it is second to none.

Beautiful hotel environment, polite and friendly staff. A rich, very tasty breakfast. Very good alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Two minimarkets right by the hotel. The nearby airport might be disruptive for some, but an attraction for others. You get used to the noise within 2 days, and planes don't fly non-stop. The only downside was the room – it didn't feel like 4 stars. The bed creaked with every movement. The bathroom was well-preserved, but the worn-out faucets and the sink countertop definitely need replacing. Regardless of the room's condition, I rate the overall stay very positively.
