Domes of Corfu, Autograph Collection

We returned a couple of weeks ago from the Domes of Corfu which is advertised widely as a 5 star hotel with the concept of a hotel within a hotel haute living. Sadly this was not our experience. On arrival we were told we needed to pay €4700 for the room. This was already paid for as we booked a package. On checking this we were told sorry the room is paid for. Not a good start. We were shown yo our room which was a swim up sapphire junior suite. The swim up was fabulous however this is where it ended. The bathroom is so small you can barely turn around. The mirror was rusty. The wardrobe there is no where at all to hang dresses. There is no dressing table in the room and the bed while it did have a mattress topper there was a huge ridge in the middle which made for uncomfortable sleeping. We booked Half board with dine around. Sadly while the buffet offers a huge choice the food is cold and uncovered. We gave it a go again on the second night and the food was barely lukewarm warm at this point we decided we would not be eating in the buffet again. Lunch at the beach bar after waiting one hour after ordering we spoke to the waiter to be told the chef hasn’t received your order. Second day lunch was delivered promptly but no drinks we had to ask for them to be taken off the bill. Meze restaurant which we used for dine around is Al a carte. While you expect some items to have a supplement almost all items listed had one. The maximum we could see you saved if we weren’t Half board was €6. We paid an awful lot more than that to upgrade to Half board. Cocktails at €14 were served in a plastic glass. This is in a supposedly 5 star al a carte restaurant. I decided one night at Meze that I would order red snapper and was informed the supplement was €54. I declined. I’m happy to pay this an upmarket restaurant but not in one when I get served a cocktail in a plastic glass. We then tried Yaosai and oh my what a revelation. Wonderful service from friendly efficient staff. Fabulous food that was outstanding. It was so good we are here 6 times out of the 12 nights we were there. Gabriella. AKA Gabby the guide you were absolutely amazing as was Konstantinos and Tia. All of you are a credit to the hotel and we thank you so much for your wonderful service. This was the only place in the hotel that actually felt like it was up market. Food was left out in the corridors day after day from guests who had room service. On the 3rd day of it not getting cleared away my husband went to reception to ask them to remove it as it was an invitation for bugs and rodents. It was removed but it shouldn’t take the guests to advise them to do this. The haute living room where branded drinks and a selection of snacks were. available First of all the library was cold uninviting and dreadful seating. There are no spirits at all never mind a branded one. Our first night there there was no beer we had to go and ask for it. It was a beer from Crete. The Stella Artois was zero alcohol. The snacks provided were neither here nor there they were also uncovered. We had to ask for tables to be cleared for ice for wine for beer. It was shambolic and one of the worst lounges I have been in anywhere in the world. We did make guest services aware of all of this. The fact that Marriot are lending their name to a hotel like this defies belief. Someone needs to look up what Haute living means as this is not what you are offering your guests. At best this hotel is 3 star plus with the exception of Yaosai which is exceptional. Sadly we would never return to this hotel and has put us off Marriott for life.

The Domes is set on a beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear waters which was lovely. This beach becomes very busy with the public and coach loads of college teenagers. We also noticed non hotel guests sometimes using the sun beds, which is irritating to hotel guests who can’t get a sunbed. Staff are not checking this at all. The staff in this hotel are lovely, so helpful and they work very hard. They seemed rather stretched and understaffed. The room situation is a nightmare if you’re located underneath the buffet restaurant, the chairs scraping the floors early morning and all evening is awful. Fortunately we got moved after two days to the floor above the restaurant which was much better. They have tried to minimalise the scraping by putting rugs down under the tables, but everyone was tripping up on them, so beware. The rooms are tired looking and need attention. Lack of storage for clothes was a problem too. The à la cart restaurants were really good, food was hot when they were actually open and the service and staff were exceptional. But the buffet restaurant was awful. Food was freezing, no lids to keep the food hot. There isn’t a great array of hot dishes that look particularly appealing at all. We ended up having salads or bread, and the occasional hot item if you were lucky enough to catch them coming from the kitchen with fresh hot food. The lunch area restaurant outside is nice, although you get plagued by wasps and cats. One of the cats jumped up onto a child’s chair and took the chicken skewer off his plate!!! The Haute Living room was disappointing, no branded spirits at all. People were wandering in from the main bar area doorway. So anyone can use it even if they’ve not paid for half board option. Again, a lack of thought about this problem. We were expecting a higher quality from Domes, could be so much better. Needs lots of attention to bring it up to a 5 star level. Felt very disappointed.

Beautiful hotel w a nice beach and pool very clean overall however, the food on the property is terrible the breakfast service could be better the staff isn’t so great they seem to struggle w English a lot the check in process was very, very slow otherwise nice rooms and great views loved the kids club this is a great stay if traveling w kids we had a room w a pool and that was a beautiful experience the beach is beautiful and clean but the sand is the hottest sand I’ve ever experienced I do recommend this property but highly recommend eating dinners off property

A totally mixed review of this hotel-some things v good(food/bar staff/buffets)but some things mediocre at best(not enough pool or beach loungers with umbrellas,things get done tomorrow or later), unavailability of beach towels til 10am;doesn’t seem like to totally together smooth operation High charges for drinks/beach lunches etc

We recently stayed at Domes of Corfu as a family and had a wonderful holiday. Overall, we had a fantastic break and created some great memories together. The hotel is in a beautiful location with direct access to the beach, and our swim-up room was fantastic. It was spacious, comfortable and definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The staff throughout the hotel were genuinely warm, friendly and always did their best to make our holiday enjoyable. That said, there are a few areas where the hotel could improve if it wants to truly live up to its 5-star rating. Firstly, the room standard could be better. Whilst the room was lovely overall, there were a few maintenance issues that should really have been picked up before guests arrive or in general need some updates. The evening entertainment was also quite limited. We appreciate that the football was being shown during our stay, but on the evenings when there were no matches, there wasn’t much happening. A wider variety of evening entertainment would make a big difference, especially for families staying at the resort. The restaurants were good, but after a few days we felt there could be more variety in the menus, particularly for guests staying for a week or longer. The biggest issue, however, was the lack of staff. This is absolutely not a criticism of the employees—they were exceptional. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, hardworking and professional. The problem is simply that there weren’t enough of them. During busy periods, particularly at lunchtime, staff were constantly rushing around trying to keep up. Waiting for service could take quite a while because they were clearly stretched beyond capacity. It was obvious they were doing everything they could, but the hotel really needs to invest in more staff so they can provide the level of service expected from a luxury 5-star resort. Overall, we genuinely enjoyed our stay and would recommend Domes of Corfu. The hotel has so much going for it—its location, beautiful rooms and excellent staff are all real strengths. With improved staffing levels, enhanced entertainment, a little more menu variety and greater attention to room maintenance, it could easily become one of the best family resorts in Corfu. We had a great holiday and hope to return in the future to see these improvements.
