Torre Fara Grand Hotel

Boom-da-da-Boom! The disco party outside our patio raged until 11pm. After a long, hot and exhausting day exploring Portofino and Cinque Terre, we looked forward to getting back to the hotel room and getting much needed rest. But, that was not to be. Promptly at 7:30pm, the DJ started laying down his tracks with gusto, adding a laser and light show as soon as it was dark --- all directly outside our patio. Noise is the Torre Fara's critical weakness. It only has two floors and is squeezed between the ocean and the commuter trains' main line. Rooms on the ocean side open directly to the first floor bar and pool. The opposite side directly faces the train tracks. Noise from the bar and pool is constant particularly at dinner time. And the rumble of trains going by can be heard regardless of the room location - though it is tolerable on the bar/pool side rooms. Our room was on the ocean side, with the patio opening directly onto the bar's table area --- the perfect spot for disco parties' DJ and laser light show, right outside our. We were not warned about the dance party. We stayed at the hotel for five nights. So management knew the dace party with its overly energetic DJ was going to rock the house right outside our room. If we had known we could have adjusted our plans to take the party into account. Even something as simple as a note on the coffee table or under the door would have allowed us to know what happening and make other plans. Because of our prolonged stay, we did get to know the hotel well, including it dining and beverage offerings. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, it was plentiful with many choices. But, they are not ready for service when the restaurant opens. Staff is just starting to set up then, so give them an hour or so after opening. View and atmosphere at dinner was very enjoyable. The sunset was spectacular, but avoid the seafood. It is not fresh. We felt the dinner was over priced for the quality. But, we did enjoy the dinner over all given summer sunset. The hotel and and our rooms were very comfortable and clean. And the staff are very polite, friendly and helpful, though a little inexperienced in international hospitality. We very much enjoyed the pool and the beach access. My wife particularly appreciated the availability of bicycles. She spent several of the afternoons exploring the town of Chiavari by bicycle. Overall, the hotel is 'nice'. But, you have to be aware of potential noise issues.

My family and I from the U.S stayed here for four nights in the Presidential Suite on the top floor. Overall, this is a great hotel and I would have given ut 5 stars were it not for air conditioning issues that were never really fixed. The suite is large with three bathrooms and offers the best views in all of Chiavari but the the first floor AC never really worked well. Now the good news- Staff was friendly and accommodating, breakfast was included and plentiful, lunch was delicious, the pool area was spotless and included a place for good cocktails. Chiavari itself may not be as pretty as some other Riviera towns but it is one of the liveliest with plenty of restaurants, bars, clubs along the water that stay open late with packed crowds until very late in the evening. It is also extremely convenient to Santa Margherita which is gorgeous and a short hop on taxi of bus to Portofino. Trains to Cinqueterre were a bit more challenging but manageable unless you are planning to stay late for dinner.

We visited this lovely hotel for Easter and they upgraded us to the Presidential Suite! WOW! Most amazing views. Luxurious linens, bath products and great smells. We loved our visit!

An amazing hotel - stunning to look at, comfortable and stylish. We stayed for one night. Our room was perfect m. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall - highly recommended!

Absolutely fabulous. We had a three bed two bath apartment and it was excellent. Clean, very well furnished, excellent fittings and well thought out kitchen, dining, sitting area. Cleaned every day. Great sea view. Good breakfast. Couldn't fault it.
