Flora Hotel

We returned to the Flora after a 3-year gap and were a bit concerned that it had been absorbed into a larger group. However right from day 1 these fears were unfounded. The same excellent friendly service putting customers first was still intact as were many of the staff, indeed one member of the team even used her own car to get us to a venue when we missed our scheduled transport. The cleanliness, pool and food in the hotel were also as good as before. We were on a half board tariff but unfortunately the Chef was taken ill (not food related) after 1 day, however this was not an issue as the Flora arranged for dinner at a sister hotel (Villa Aminta 5 Stars) including mini bus transfers, the food here was out of this world and an unexpected bonus, but gorgonzola ice cream, Pear with Mustard and candied vegitables for deserts were a step to far for us. Facilities in the Flora were brilliant great pool and bar, so all in all a great place to stay why its only registered a 3 stars is beyond me, thoroughly recommend the Flora and will return again.

Stayed for a long weekend at Hotel Flora. Yes, the style of the rooms is a little dated, but that doesn’t detract from the functionality of the rooms. I imagine the views from the higher floors must be amazing, but ours was on a lower level, although our dual aspect room still provided a pleasant outlook. When I book a hotel I always look for good breakfast reviews and Hotel Flora did not disappoint. I can’t think of anything that was not on offer. I loved the range of Italian cheeses, salami, fresh bread and rolls, fresh orange juice, fruit and an array of cakes and pastries, plus tea and coffee brought to the table. We ate one evening in the restaurant and that was also very tasty and saved the walk into town after a particularly strenuous day. The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk to the train station, 5 minutes to the ferry and a 20 minute walk to the town centre where most of the restaurants are located. The icing on the cake, however, is the staff. Everyone throughout the hotel helped to make our stay such a pleasant one. A big shout out to Francesca and the other girls on reception who helped with advice and recommendations, when my husband was poorly, restaurant recommendations and bookings and finally help with booking a bus back to the airport, when strikes hit the train services. Would I stay again? Most definitely!

Location and atmosphere of this cute and cozy hotel is very good and I would say their breakfast is marvelous, paying attention to details with fresh food and fruits that makes your whole experience delightful.

Excellent! So friendly and helpful. The staff were exceptional and even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine after allowing a slightly late checkout due to me having a work meeting. The hotel itself is really very nice indeed, especially handy location for boat trips to the gorgeous islands. Highly recommended!

We find this difficult to review as we have very mixed feelings about the place. Positives…… the staff could not be more helpful and professional. The breakfast selection was very good but as some have commented, the food can run out if you don’t get in before 9am. The room size was good and the beds relatively comfortable although the mattress was a little lumpy and could do with turning end on end. Negatives….. we like a shower late afternoon if we’ve been out but the water in the two rooms we were provided both had little warmth in the taps until the morning. We complained and after a day were given another room, which was better, but still not enough hot water for a shower until morning. Not the end of the world you might say but for over €230 a night you might expect hot water at all times! Also there was a funny musty smell in the rooms. The restaurant was also closed one night of our stay and breakfast also without a cook to do omelettes! The location whilst handy for the Borromean trip on the lake was good but the hotel was a good 20 minute walk(uphill coming back) from restaurants and the town of Stresa. Value for money is also difficult as everything in Stresa was crazy expensive but over €200 a night we felt was a little excessive. Overall it was a three in comparison to many other places we have stayed. I struggled to see how those that rate it a 5 can justify a rating. They can only have stayed in some sub standard places in the past,
