Barcelo Lanzarote Royal Level

Junior Suite was great just such a shame about the view , the staff where great , service great good food

Just back from the barcelo royal level Lanzarote. We stayed 10 nights and totally enjoyed our stay, the staff are very friendly and helpful. As we stayed all inclusive royal level we had access to everything the hotel offers. We ate mostly in the buffet restaurant and the food was very good lots of variety the restaurant itself is spotless and food is well displayed, the staff here are very friendly I found Rosie and yousef (Joseph) very attentive. The hotel is split into two the royal level side and right across the road the sport active part of the hotel which is exceptionally big it seemed to be suited more to families, it would not suit us and we were very happy we chose the royal level side. we had access to everything over in that side too. I do think that at least one of the pools and pool sides should be adult only for royal level guests which is usually the case when you stay royal level or priority in other hotels. There are enough pools to make this possible especially as there are three pools on the higher side where the goa bar is. There is also two pools in another section which has artificial grass which is under utilised …. The Bali beds are broken and the bar is not open if updated it would be very suitable and fun for people with babies and young children. There is then a very large pool and area for people who are not royal level. There is a very lovely foyer with plenty of seating live piano playing card/ game playing and chatting it has a very good atmosphere . I would return to this hotel and with the addition of an adult only area I would definitely return.

From check-in, we arrived late, when the friendly reception staff made sure we were able to get to the restaurant for dinner before it shut at 22.30, all through our 10 night stay it was simply a fantastic holiday for us. Great hotel, superb food and premium drink, I'm not a lager drinker but the local beer Dorada is excellent, rooms were big, clean and had everything we needed. Lovely bathroom, walk-in shower and double basins. The pool areas were spotlessly clean with plenty of sunbeds and cabanas. Everything is perfectly located, you're never more than a 5min walk from anything! Excellent gym which we used 3 times. The Koi Asian restaurant and the Dolce Vita Italian restaurants are nice for a change of scenery and vibe from the buffet restaurants. The town of Teguise is a 30min walk or 10mins by bus and worth a visit. We walked it a few times and stopped at a couple of the little beaches for a bit of snorkeling which was excellent! This is our 2nd time to Lanzarote and based off this experience we would definitely return and would happily stay at the Barcelo Lanzarote Active again. The Royal Level upgrade is 100% worth it if you fancy a more relaxed atmosphere. Location = excellent. Rooms + Facilities = excellent. Food & Drink = excellent. Staff = excellent!

During our first stay with Barcelo Hotels we noticed that in the ASANA restaurant at breakfast a Supervisor & her staff would clear all dirty plates, cutlery & glasses from the table once the guests left whilst leaving all UNUSED CUTLERY & GLASSES ON THE TABLE. Then they returned, moved the cutlery & glasses to wipe the mat & table with a cloth (no bacterial spray was used). After this they laid the table with the cutlery/glasses the last GUEST LEFT. I spoke to the Supervisor informing her that this was unacceptable, to which her answer was "THATS THE WAY WE DO IT". I explained people would have touched the items & could have sneezed/coughed over the cutlery, have Covid or even a stomach bug & everything should be removed off the table & washed up. Over the time we were there I spoke to 3 Guest Experience Managers about this & requested to speak to a Food & Beverage Manager (no luck). I was informed they had a meeting about my complaint. Things changed for a few days, then new breakfast staff from another restaurant came & did the same. On our last day we saw the same Supervisor clear the table totally & place the UNUSED cutlery into the laying up tray on the station, so it will all go back on the table. After this we visited the large restaurant on the Active side & saw the waitress do exactly the same with the cutlery. We gave the hotel a chance to rectify the issue while we were there. PLEASE DIRTY ALL YOUR CUTLERY/GLASSES BEFORE LEAVING YOUR TABLE. The floor on the outside of the restaurant was still dirty at breakfast with the food & spilt drinks from the night before. POOL AREAS Royal Level Pool (Map 04)- the grass area was filthy with paper, cigarette ends etc. Umbrella stand & tables were never cleaned. Cleaners would come for 5 minutes & go. Large Pool (Map 03) was filthy under the sunbeds & the drains were dirty. GOOD POINTS 1) The Chefs worked hard to provide an extensive buffet with many options, this included hot plates. 2) Our room was always kept clean & hot water was plentiful. 3) Gardens were immaculate. 4) Excellent idea to keep the pool closed until 9am to allow no night sunbed saving. 5) Royal Level Desk were brilliant when you had problems. 6) Just a mention to the Window Cleaner who always said Good Morning & gave us a smile. Unfortunately we never saw the Management Team checking the property & the work of their staff or chatting to guests.

My stay at this hotel was an absolute nightmare, and I can honestly say it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have ever had. The worst part of my stay was waking up to find a rat on my face. This was absolutely horrifying and completely unacceptable for any hotel. Security attempted twice to remove the rat from my room, but both attempts were unsuccessful. After this shocking incident, I went to reception and was told that another room would be ready at 3 p.m. This left me having to stay away from my room for approximately eight hours while waiting for the situation to be resolved. When I finally returned, the reception staff were not even aware that I was supposed to be moved to another room. The lack of communication and organisation was unbelievable. When I was finally moved, I was given a downgrade to a pool-view room instead of the sea-view room I had originally booked. I had also specifically requested a quiet room, yet I was placed near the lift. It felt as though my preferences and comfort were simply ignored. The disappointment continued with the resort facilities and entertainment. The hotel is presented as an active resort, but the animation and activities were extremely lazy and underwhelming. There was very little energy or enthusiasm. The only time they organised a decent activity was when they needed to take pictures, which made the entertainment feel more like a photo opportunity than a genuine effort to entertain guests. The gym was another disappointment. The photos make it look much bigger and better than it actually is in real life. What you see in the pictures does not match the reality, which adds to the feeling of being misled by the hotel’s presentation. The food was average, with not much variety, and certainly nothing particularly impressive. The nearest beach was also around a 25–30-minute walk away, which is worth knowing before booking if you expect a convenient beach holiday. Overall, I felt seriously misled by this hotel. Between waking up with a rat on my face, the failed attempts to remove it, the eight-hour wait, the poor communication, the downgrade in room, the ignored request for a quiet room, the disappointing entertainment, and the misleading photos of the gym, this experience was completely unacceptable. This is the most disappointing and misleading hotel I have ever stayed in. The experience was nowhere near what I expected from the hotel’s presentation. Management needs to take hygiene, pest control, communication, guest satisfaction, and the accuracy of its advertising much more seriously. I would not stay here again, and based on my experience, I would strongly advise other travellers to think carefully before booking.
