SECRETS LANZAROTE RESORT

Fabulous hotel, not quite a 5 star but couldn't bring myself to give it a 4. The room (seaview) was large and had everything we needed, we asked for a high floor and were delighted to be on the 7th floor which also offered us views of the sea. Location is fantastic, quiet, but only a small walk of about 10 minutes to the marina. Great way to stretch your legs or visit the market on Tuesdays and Fridays. Water bus from the marina to Puerto del Carmen is a nice trip. We stayed for 10 days late August into September. Never had a problem getting a sun bed. Drinks service around the pool a bit hit and miss, but not exactly a huge effort to go to the bar. Buffet restaurant was excellent for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Vast choice of options. Breakfast options were great, I would have liked muesli or granola, but that is just personal choice. The back bacon at the grill station was fabulous. At lunch and dinner there was always 3 choices of fresh fish and 3 fresh meat options available at the grill station, freshly cooked to your liking. As well as a pasta or stir fry option, again cooked to order. In addition a vast array of casseroles, salads, vegetable, cheeses, cold meats, bread etc. We did not pay for the preferred club, so can't comment on the advantages. A la carte restaurants, we tried Portofino and the Blue Water Grill, both were lovely. As we were not in the preferred club we could only use the Barefoot Grill after 3pm which was a little disappointing. Did not try the sushi or fish restaurant so can't comment, although they seemed popular. As with previous reviews, I think the staff are fabulous, irrespective of their role within the hotel they were wonderful. It was our wedding anniversary when we were there and they left chocolates and a bottle of bubbly in our room, which was a nice touch. My only issue was that in the evening the sushi restaurant was also the only bar on the ground floor (apologies if there was another) and whilst I understand that the staff need to attend to their restaurant clients, you could wait quite a while to get served with a drink. Special mention to Kevin at the bar during the day, he was brilliant. We had a fantastic time and will be returning.

Great seafront location and views, also a nice lobby / reception area which doubles up as the central point for the evening entertainment. It looked absolutely great on arrival but we had seen the best bit. The room was a reasonable size but felt tired and dated with scuffs, marks and general maintenance requirements. The balconies are very small and will not fit loungers, or even comfortable chairs. This means that sun loungers around the pool are at a premium and people shuffle down furtively each morning before breakfast to bagsy them for the day. Pool staff don’t intervene despite this being outside the hotel’s own policy. There’s not a great choice of other outside / half in half out seating if you can’t get a bed either. The corridors are dark, sparsely decorated and have the feel of hospital corridors or service access areas rather than public areas, often with open doors into store rooms etc. All the staff we met seemed fine and trying to do a good job, although overall the hotel appeared under staffed. There were no value adding extras anywhere from the hotel to make it special. Whilst there was plenty of full English breakfast style options, we found the wider options limited for a 5 star hotel e.g most good hotels have for example, a bread cutting board / freshly baked buns and loaves to hand slice - (ready sliced bread left out on plates quickly goes dry / stale). Also most have better quality seed / muesli choices, nicer cereals (not Kelloggs variety boxes), freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh local honeycomb etc. We would also normally expect to be served coffee at our table but were directed to a vending machine. There is no evening room turn down service, mini bar, or poolside bar waiter service. We play padel tennis and were attracted by the fact that the hotel has a court. We brought our racquets but sadly the court is extremely run down and unloved, bordering on unsafe. Overall there are too many shortcomings for this to be a true 5 star experience. The hotel offered us other rooms but they were all much of a muchness. They also suggested we pay a supplement of around €100 per day to have a few extras under the “Preferred” package (mini bar, more breakfast options, tea and coffee station etc.) but it did not appear worth it and in any event these are only things that we would have expected anyway. It’s a real shame as we love Lanzarote and are frequent visitors, this is our third trip to the island so far this year and we were also checking out this hotel for a future padel trip with some friends. To us Secrets was a good 4 star hotel but definitely not 5 star and so rather than join their Preferred Club, we just upgraded to a better hotel which we are delighted with.

This was our 4th visit to this wonderful hotel , We love it here . We stay all inclusive preffered. The staff are wonderful No booking the restaurants which is wonderful, you just go along to which ever you fancy that day . Lovely food . I do wish they would bring back the pornstar martini. There are some stand out members off staff for us In the preffered breakfast Laura was wonderful, she knew I liked a latte and as I sat down she came over with it . At the preffered lounge bar Selene and Carmen are fabulous, very friendly and they work so hard . I would say that there are some areas that are looking " tired " Around the preffered pool area the floor is not looking great and could do with some maintenance. But thats just cosmetic and in no way spoilt our holiday . All the staff work very hard and I hope they know it's appreciated by the guests . We tell them 😉 We cant wait to return

This is a beautiful hotel. The staff go out of their way to provide the best service. We were here for a 10 day stay and loved every minute. We were on the Bed and Breakfast with Preferred Service package. Each evening we enjoyed the scenic walk to the Mariner. So many bars and restaurants to chose. The breakfast in the hotel was a choice of The world buffet restaurant or Porto Fino. The PortoFino has waiter service plus you have your own coffee pot. The world buffet have coffee machines. The coffee is really good. There are many pools we chose the preferred service pool as this has dealt views and is quieter. My only critique would be the evening entertainment which was different each evening and really accomplished musicians. However their song choices were often the old standards which are quite boring. They could all do with up dating their repotroire. The bar service is excellent. If you stay here you will have the best of times. Any issues that may occur are sorted out quickly.

Second stay at this fabulous hotel and it definitely won't be our last. Everything about this hotel is perfect for a truly relaxing holiday with beautiful spacious rooms and views of the pool/sea. Staff are amazing and so is the food. We stayed B&B, with an abundance of choice for breakfast. We like to eat out at in the marina area with a choice of excellent restaurants. As we know the island well, its a beautiful island to explore if you can tear yourself away from fabulous Puerto Calero. If you are thinking of booking this hotel just do it, you wont regret it.
