Pestana Vila Lido Madeira Premium Ocean

We had a fantastic holiday in this hotel. It is located 15 mins away from Funchal centre, easily accessed by taxi. The hotel in nearby lots of restaurants, bars and tourists’ shops, if you feel like staying local. The rooms are nice and spacious; the view from the terrace is unbeatable. The cleanliness was perfect and our cleaner went beyond expectations! Nice big pool with a bar; the pool staff are great and very helpful. You’ll always find sunloungers and parasols, even when it is very busy. There also is a restaurant by the pool. For lunches. You can also access the sea from the pool area, if you wish to dip in for a dive and snorkelling. The breakfast restaurant is wonderful, with views over the ocean and great selection of sweet and savoury buffet to please everyone. The à la carte restaurant in Vila Lido is lovely, with its colonial character and great food. Very nice bar too, open until midnight! We really enjoyed the Madeiran evening in Vila Lido, with a beautiful menu and live music. We particularly enjoyed the Summer Party by the pool, with live music (saxophonist Basilio got everyone on their feet with his varied repertoire!!) Big shout out to Lisbeth Albuquerque for her smiley welcome every morning, and great adviser for touristic trips and attractions, Big shout out also for waiter Gaudino Vieira for his warm welcome, kindness and impeccable waitering service! We’ll be back!

Excellent hotel and facilities. All rooms overlooked the sea and you could swim in the sea or hotel pool direct from the hotel. Breakfast buffet was superb. Highly recommended place to stay Madeira.

We stayed at the ocean-view suite on the 8th floor (room 816) for two nights in mid-July 2026. Fantastic ocean view and great location. Unfortunately, there was an issue with bed bugs. This was the first stop on our vacation, and the characteristic bite marks began to appear the morning after our second night (numerous bites in tight clusters and straight lines that started to itch a few days later).

Pestana Vila Lido was just amazing! Absolute perfect location right on the seafront with sea access, stunning views, perfect for access to beautiful local restaurants, promenade and Funchal itself. Staff were superb, so friendly, efficient, pleasant. Our room was stunning, big, spacious, spotless and very comfortable. The hotel setting is sublime and picturesque. We will definitely return to this hotel without hesitation, highly recommend - super food, amenities, peaceful, relaxing, just perfect! I’m between relaxing, swimming, drinking cocktails we did lots of excursions, drank delicious Madeiran wine and ate the most amazing fresh fish! Thank you and we can’t wait to go back to visit Madeira again….

Hotel is somewhat older fashioned (similar to most in maderia) . Clean, pleasant staff, comfortable rooms and great scenery if you get the ocean view rooms. Access to sea and sunbed area is decent Only negative is the breakfast. Hotel is rated 5 star (in reality its probably a 4☆ lite). The breakfast is 2☆ max. Coffee is wholly undrinkable (machine and waiter served- instant nescafe is my guess- yuk. Orange drink is not natural and from a packet. Food- general feeling is its all low quality, cheap food. Recommendation is to reduce the selection and focus on a few high quality foods. On my last night the hotel had its 'white party' - based on the poor quality breakfast food i dreaded to think what the dinner offering woukd be like. Overall its a 4 star hotel that needs modernising in a great location with decent restaurants nearby but pls do improve the breakfast food quality
