Pestana Vila Lido Madeira Premium Ocean

Hotel is somewhat older fashioned (similar to most in maderia) . Clean, pleasant staff, comfortable rooms and great scenery if you get the ocean view rooms. Access to sea and sunbed area is decent Only negative is the breakfast. Hotel is rated 5 star (in reality its probably a 4☆ lite). The breakfast is 2☆ max. Coffee is wholly undrinkable (machine and waiter served- instant nescafe is my guess- yuk. Orange drink is not natural and from a packet. Food- general feeling is its all low quality, cheap food. Recommendation is to reduce the selection and focus on a few high quality foods. On my last night the hotel had its 'white party' - based on the poor quality breakfast food i dreaded to think what the dinner offering woukd be like. Overall its a 4 star hotel that needs modernising in a great location with decent restaurants nearby but pls do improve the breakfast food quality

We visited Madeira in July and were lucky enough to be able to stay at the Pestana Lido resort. The hotel and complex is just superb, staff from front of house to cleaners couldn’t do enough. We had breakfast outside overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and what an experience, there was an extensive choice of well presented items that would suit everyone’s palette. The meals in the hotel and Mansion House were simply superb, the pool area is amazing with easy access direct from the hotel to private beach and steps down into the ocean. Nothing was too much trouble I would highly recommend this resort.

The staff are non intrusive and very helpful. The views are amazing and room is very clean. The breakfast was generous and timings were great for a lie in. The hotel is lovely and well located. Overall loved it!

clean rooms and nice views. However the pool area leaves a lot to be desired. I have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world & never come across one that does not do pool service. Really poor. No atmosphere whatsoever, basic pool bar. No menus poolside so you can’t even see the lunch options. You get a sun lounger and thats it Stop serving food in evening bar 21:30 which is early as well. Won’t be returning here. Breakfast is basic unlike other true 5 starts there is no chef making eggs / omelettes it’s all served under a hot lamp. Potatoes at breakfast are very very dry. Happy to take your money but thats it.

Amazing location and probably the best sea front hotel in Funchal Atmosphere over all was great, staff very friendly and approachable, evening entertainment in the buffet restaurant very dated and geared towards the elderly Rooms - five star ⭐ overall but attention to detail in shower room and head board could have been better Cleansed very good and room maid extremely friendly Value overall was good however half-board basis poor. Evening buffet let the hotel down badly. Variety and quality of food is not what is expected of four star hotel. Food lukewarm and salad bar had flys constantly. Cheeses and salad not refrigerated and chef special left cold on hot plate??? No variety, night after night forcing us to eat out 3 our 7 nights. Would stay again but on a B&B basis
