Pestana Vila Lido Madeira Premium Ocean

This hotel is really really good. The setting is best in area with direct access into sea which provides great snorkelling and swimming. The views from room (we had 8th floor) are second to none. The sun rise coming up over Funchal was amazing. Rooms very nice and big. Cleaning was perfect beds comfy and showers powerful. Breakfasts very good not a huge variety but did the job. Coffee machines are brilliant quality. The points it could do better are:- One of the 2 lifts kept breaking down and even heard a woman stuck in it one day. Day of checkout no proper facilities to freshen up and shower which not good when pick up was 18:30. Had events for members only on some evenings which as a paying guest was a bit rude to be excluded when in main area of the grounds. Overall great hotel and will probably return in future. If the few negatives improved would be 5*

We visited as a family of five at the end of August 2026 and stayed in adjoining rooms with a side view of the coast to Funchal. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, and the hotel itself is beautiful and perfectly located in the Lido area, a 30 minute walk from the centre of the city. The access to the sea is a real highlight. Take a snorkel as there are so many fish in the water as soon as you step off the ladder (more than at the marine reserve at Garajau). At night you can sleep to the sound of the waves below. There are lots of excellent restaurants nearby, and also a well stocked supermarket with a large car park which is useful if you rent a car (about €12 to park overnight). Breakfast is very good, with a wide selection of options and we enjoyed talking to Lisbeth who would greet us every morning and showed us pictures of her five lovely dogs after we mentioned our golden retriever who sadly had to stay at home in the UK! Being fairly small, the hotel never felt busy or noisy. We were so glad we chose to stay there rather than some of the larger hotels available. Finally, we found it good value to book direct via the Pestana website rather than as a package through a travel agent. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Great location directly by the ocean. Big rooms, very good service and nice people. Hotel is not very big and hence quiet, but food is good and fresh. We all enjoyed our stay. Sea view room was a highlight.

We had a fantastic holiday in this hotel. It is located 15 mins away from Funchal centre, easily accessed by taxi. The hotel in nearby lots of restaurants, bars and tourists’ shops, if you feel like staying local. The rooms are nice and spacious; the view from the terrace is unbeatable. The cleanliness was perfect and our cleaner went beyond expectations! Nice big pool with a bar; the pool staff are great and very helpful. You’ll always find sunloungers and parasols, even when it is very busy. There also is a restaurant by the pool. For lunches. You can also access the sea from the pool area, if you wish to dip in for a dive and snorkelling. The breakfast restaurant is wonderful, with views over the ocean and great selection of sweet and savoury buffet to please everyone. The à la carte restaurant in Vila Lido is lovely, with its colonial character and great food. Very nice bar too, open until midnight! We really enjoyed the Madeiran evening in Vila Lido, with a beautiful menu and live music. We particularly enjoyed the Summer Party by the pool, with live music (saxophonist Basilio got everyone on their feet with his varied repertoire!!) Big shout out to Lisbeth Albuquerque for her smiley welcome every morning, and great adviser for touristic trips and attractions, Big shout out also for waiter Gaudino Vieira for his warm welcome, kindness and impeccable waitering service! We’ll be back!

Excellent hotel and facilities. All rooms overlooked the sea and you could swim in the sea or hotel pool direct from the hotel. Breakfast buffet was superb. Highly recommended place to stay Madeira.
