We stayed at Kastalia Village for two weeks. When we arrived at the hotel at 2am, we were greeted by a very cheerful member of staff who seemed to love giving fist bumps. It was fine the first time, but by the fourth or fifth fist bump within ten minutes of arriving after a long journey, it became a little tiresome. That said, he was friendly and gave us a bottle of water, which was appreciated. We then had to carry our luggage up and down several flights of stairs to reach our room. Unfortunately, one of our suitcases broke during the process. That wasn't the hotel's fault, but it's worth noting that depending on where your room is located, you should expect a lot of stairs. Our room was situated towards the back of the hotel near the bar area. It was basic but adequate for the price we paid. However, the air conditioning struggled to cool the room properly, which was an issue during the stay. The housekeeping team did a good job keeping the room clean throughout our stay. On Sundays, when rooms were not serviced, there was a noticeable smell coming from the drain in the middle of the bathroom floor. We found that pouring water and some cleaning products down it helped reduce the odour. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because we hoped it would be away from the hustle and bustle, and in that respect it delivered. The location suited us well, as we prefer somewhere quieter. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, the is a restaurant over the road which was where we ended up most nights it good food with a family feel and I would definitely recommend taking a walk down to the beach area where there are two particularly good restaurants. The nearest beach is made up of pebbles rather than sand, and the sea becomes deep very quickly within a few metres. This may not be ideal for families with young children. The sea was also fairly choppy on the days we visited. We hired a car from a rental company located a short walk from the hotel, which was a great way to explore the area and break up the holiday. The local bus service is also reliable, and we used it several times. The pool areas were generally good, and the slides were enjoyed by our children. For the first ten days of the holiday, we had no issues finding sunbeds. However, during the final few days, towels started appearing on beds early in the morning, with some remaining unoccupied until midday. We are a family of four and normally only used three sunbeds, but towards the end of the holiday we struggled to find enough beds together. There were also improvement works taking place on the paths near the main road. While we were not affected by noise, there were points where pedestrians were required to walk in the road due to limited access. We recognise that improvement works are necessary and beneficial, but Jet2 would normally advise guests of nearby works before travel, and no notification was provided in this instance. Up until the final few days, our holiday was largely what we expected: relaxing, with a few minor issues that were easy enough to overlook. Unfortunately, events on 17 August, our final full day, changed our overall impression of the hotel. A large group of young girls arrived at the pool area with numerous inflatables, while what appeared to be their family occupied a large table in the restaurant. It soon became apparent that they had some connection to the hotel's ownership when an older lathery looking lady began shouting at children and claiming to be the owner's wife. The situation quickly became uncomfortable. She aggressively confronted guests around the pool, threatened to have people removed from the hotel, and demanded that children stop playing in the pool because her own child wanted more space. Her children also complained about being splashed, despite other paying guests simply using the pool as intended. What followed felt like something out of an episode of Benidorm. The woman began shouting and swearing, and the situation escalated further when the Jet2 representative arrived. What we witnessed next was socking, inflatables were slashed, children were pushed into the pool, and a knife was reportedly being waved around during the dispute. At that point, we decided it was best to leave the pool area and return to our room to prepare for our transfer to the airport. Thankfully, it was our last day. On a positive note, we didn't experience the usual post-holiday blues when we returned home. In fact, after the events of the final day, we were quite relieved to be back in the UK

🌞 Holiday Review — Kastillia Village, Crete Takeaway: A chilled, sun‑lounger‑friendly escape with great pools, lovely people, and a few quirks worth knowing. Kastillia Village is a lovely little hideaway — definitely out of the way, but perfect if your main mission is pool → jacuzzi → slides → repeat. It’s the kind of place where you can genuinely switch off for two weeks and not feel guilty about it. 🏨 Accommodation Rooms are basic and could do with a modern refresh. The biggest annoyance? Holding the shower head like it’s a microphone in a karaoke bar. A shower hook would change lives. Plenty of sunbeds though — no sunbed wars, no 6 a.m. towel ninjas, just pure relaxation. There’s also an adult-only pool for anyone wanting peace away from splashing kids. And don’t forget: tourist tax applies, so keep a few euros handy. 🥗 Food & Drink The hotel serves food all day, including breakfast at €10 per adult and €5 per child. But the real gem? Kriti, the family-run restaurant right across the road. Gorgeous food, lovely staff, and the kind of place you accidentally end up at every night. Mojitos for a nightcap? Absolutely. 🚌 Getting Around Buses run regularly and are cheap — €2.20 locally or €3.10 to Chania. Chania is a must‑visit: beautiful, lively, and full of character. 🌙 Evenings Out Platanias is great for a night out with loads of restaurants. Top picks: - Poseidonio - Mythos Garden Avoid Red Lips for food, but their frozen mojito is elite. 🦟 Things to Watch Out For Sand flies. Everywhere. You will be eaten alive. Pack repellent like your life depends on it. 🏖️ Day Trips Elafonisi Beach — stunning, but don’t be fooled by the Instagram serenity. It’s manic, and the walk from the car park to the beach is a 20‑minute trek. Worth it, but be prepared. --- ⭐ Overall Kastillia Village is ideal if you want a chilled, pool‑based holiday with friendly vibes and easy evenings out. A few improvements needed, but the location, food options, and relaxed atmosphere make it a solid choice for a laid‑back break.

We stayed here for a week and this is an honest review. Yes there were works outside the hotel as they were putting new pavement down along the road. No inconvenience this goes on anywhere. Nothing unsafe about it just workers going on about their business and was finished a few days before we left. The hotel room was basic but clean. A hob, microwave, fridge, small freezer and kettle. Basic crockery etc but enough to do basic meals. We made omelettes and toasties in the frying pan. The hotel food is lovely and average priced. Drinks are similar price to all other places we went in the area.We ate their most days. The pool and waterslides are fab, no issues. Our son enjoyed using them everyday. Entertainment is Friday and Sunday evening only and was good especially the greek night. Evenings there is an an air hockey machine and pool table and some small grab machines. We took some board games for the evening as having done our research we knew evenings would be quiet. After spending all day in the sun, the pool and the odd trip we were all exhausted by 7pm so didn't have late nights. The beach is literally a 5 minute walk but too choppy to swim in. A further 10 minute walk takes you too a calmer area with a beach bar and you can safely swim. The area is remote but buses regular and take you into chania or other towns at a small cost. We broke our week up with a trip to the waterpark booked through jet 2 and we booked our own glass boat tour after getting the bus into platanais. This holiday wasn't expensive at all so we can't complain. It was exactly what we wanted, quiet but easy access into other towns. The little shop next door people are moaning about I found great. If you look it probably has everything you need to cook a meal. Eggs, butter, bread, noodles, pasta, sauces, veg, fruit, fizzy drinks, beer, wine, washing up liquid to name a few. If you can't find anything ask the staff and they will help you. Drinks are so much cheaper in there so we stocked up for our room. There's another little shop further down if you go right from the hotel that has a good selection of things. We did go a big supermarket in Chania but didn't buy anything. Eating places are all nice. We also went the black lantern about a 5 minute taxi ride which is well worth the trip, English and greek food and English ran. Food gorgeous. Can only imagine the bad reviews were all expecting a 5 star experience. You need to pay 5 star prices for the expectations you have and book somewhere else. Can't fault the hotel, staff food or location. Perfect for us. Evenings are quiet so bare that in mind. Thank you for a Wonderful stay hotel Kastalia Village. Hotel: Kastalia Village Hotel 10th Aug 24th , our stay at Kastalia Village Hotel. My partner, our two children aged 7 and 12, and I arrived on 10 August. As the hotel was advertised as a 3-star property, we did not expect luxury, but we did expect basic standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and distressing from the moment we arrived. We arrived at approximately 2:00am after a long journey. Upon entering our apartment, we were immediately met with a strong sewage smell throughout the accommodation. I went to reception and requested a room change, but I was told to return in the morning. The following day, I spoke to a receptionist who was dismissive and extremely rude. She informed me that the hotel was fully booked for the next four weeks and that no room changes were possible. We later discovered this was not true. During our stay, we reported the sewage smell on at least seven occasions. The hotel staff attempted to mask the odour by pouring toilet cleaner down the drains, but the smell always returned, particularly after showering. The issue was never properly resolved, making it difficult for us to spend time in our room. When we left our room the next morning, we discovered that major construction work was taking place directly outside the hotel. Both pathways leading from the hotel had been dug up, leaving no safe pedestrian access and forcing guests to walk alongside busy roads. This created a significant safety concern, particularly for families with children. There were diggers, cement mixers, forklifts, and other heavy machinery operating throughout the day. The noise and disruption were constant and were never disclosed before our arrival. Between the sewage smell in our room and the construction work outside, it was impossible to relax or enjoy our holiday. The location was also far more isolated than expected. The beach was a considerable walk away and had very limited facilities. Many nearby restaurants appeared to be closed, meaning we had to rely on buses or taxis for most outings, costing our family approximately €25 per day. The hotel restaurant was extremely expensive, charging €9.50 for two ice lollies. The supermarket next door was virtually empty, leaving us with very limited options unless we travelled elsewhere. Although we had booked a self-catering apartment, there was a lack of basic kitchen equipment. We had only three plates despite there being four people in our family. There was no tin opener, corkscrew, enough cutlery, or other essential items required for self-catering. As a result, we were unable to properly prepare meals as advertised. However, the most serious incident occurred on 17 August. My family and I went to the pool area, where we noticed a large group of young girls with numerous inflatables. We later learned these were the hotel owner's daughter and her friends. Shortly afterwards, the owner's wife approached my partner, accusing one of our children of swearing at her. She was shouting aggressively and threatening to have us removed from the hotel. When my partner calmly asked which child she was referring to, she continued shouting and demanding our room number. When it became clear that our child was not involved, the situation escalated further. The owner's wife began demanding that children leave the pool area and was seen waving them away. The owner then instructed the lifeguard to move children away from the pool so that his daughter and her friends could effectively have their own private pool party, despite other guests having paid to use the facilities. The behaviour that followed was shocking. One of the owner's friends became upset after being splashed and pushed a young boy into the pool. The group of girls were shouting, swearing, and directing offensive comments towards other guests. My 7-year-old child was left extremely upset and distressed. The owner's wife then began shouting that the hotel belonged to her friend and that guests should leave if they were unhappy. The situation became even more alarming when one of her friends picked up a knife from the restaurant area and began puncturing and cutting inflatable toys around the pool. My child ran to me in tears, while other children appeared frightened and were hiding behind adults. Throughout the incident, the owner repeatedly stated that if we did not like it, we should leave. We contacted Jet2's emergency assistance line immediately. Unfortunately, no alternative accommodation was available at such short notice, leaving us with no option but to remain at the hotel for the remainder of our holiday. Following this incident, we felt that we were deliberately targeted by both management and certain staff members. Our children were made to feel unwelcome, were prevented from using facilities, and were intimidated throughout the remainder of our stay. One member of staff even apologised to us and stated that management were unhappy that we had reported the incident to Jet2 and intended to make the rest of our holiday unpleasant. As a result, we did not feel comfortable in our room due to the sewage smell, nor did we feel safe or welcome around the pool area. We were regularly forced to leave the hotel and spend additional money travelling elsewhere simply to avoid the hostile environment. I have photographs and videos supporting these complaints, and many other guests witnessed the events described above. This holiday caused considerable stress and upset for our family. Our children became anxious and frightened, and what should have been a relaxing family holiday turned into an extremely distressing experience. This was, without question, the worst holiday we have ever experienced. Given the serious issues relating to accommodation standards, undisclosed construction work, health and safety concerns, and the behaviour of hotel management I would stay away
