SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort Hotel

We were extremely disappointed. The setting of the restaurant certainly gave the impression that we were in for a “fine dining” experience with excellent food and service. The prices listed on the menu for the meals and wines also suggested that everything should be up to that standard. Unfortunately, this was far from the case. The initial service from the maître d’ was overly mannered and pretentious. We asked for additional bread, which only arrived at the end of the main course. Bottles of water were kept in ice buckets, but the same buckets were also being used to serve the table next to us. The starters were served several minutes apart, meaning that some of us had already started eating while others were still waiting. The meat was not cooked as requested, and the dishes were not hot at all. In short, it felt like a Fiat (the food and service) parked inside a Ferrari (the décor and surroundings). Sadly, we will not be coming back.

From the moment you arrive, SO/ Sotogrande sweeps you off your feet. Nestled up in the hills, the resort feels like a peaceful, safe sanctuary surrounded by rolling landscape and pine trees. You will find the classic white-washed Andalusian charm with effortless modern luxury, and every single corner of the grounds has clearly been designed with so much care and attention. What elevates this place from a beautiful hotel to an unforgettable experience, though, is the incredible team. A huge thank you to Luisa at reception, who welcomed us so warmly and made both check-in and check-out feel seamless, relaxed, and genuinely friendly. And our biggest gratitude goes to Damien, who went above and beyond at every turn to make sure our stay was nothing short of perfection. It’s rare to encounter service that feels so sincere and attentive. We stayed in one of the SO/ Lofty suites, and honestly, we could have moved in forever. The space is vast, private, and filled with natural light, but the absolute highlight is the bedroom bathtub looking out over the hills and pines, such an indulgent, serene moment after a day out (believe me I’ve used it every day). The bed and crisp linens are pure heaven, the complimentary minibar and in-room Illy coffee are lovely touches, and even the bath amenities left my hair feeling incredibly soft, silky, and smelling fantastic. The dining was a consistent treat: Breakfast at Society: Easily one of our favorite parts of the morning. It’s entirely à la carte and made to order (which means no food waste and everything arrives piping hot and fresh). Do not skip the traditional Andaluza toast, the freshly squeezed orange juice, and the morning pastry basket filled with warm croissants and pain au chocolat alongside Bonne Maman preserves. Cortijo Santa María 1962: A culinary dream. The historic farmhouse atmosphere combined with contemporary Andalusian cooking was stunning. The olive oil tasting is such a sophisticated touch, the curated cuts of meat were phenomenal, and both the cod and mussels were cooked to absolute perfection. IXO Bar: Perfect for evening drinks,if you are there over the weekend, the Saturday live flamenco performance adds such vibrant soul to the evening. And they offer one of the best club sandwiches you will ever taste! For downtime, the resort hits every mark. The golf facilities are state-of-the-art and an absolute playground if you play the sport. The spa is another league altogether. Every woman at the spa reception is a superstar, warm, attentive, and making you feel pampered from the second you walk through the doors. The thermal circuits and the locally inspired salt treatments, using sea salt from Cadiz and native Mediterranean botanicals, left our skin feeling completely renewed and deeply relaxed. We also took some time to visit The Beach at La Reserva Club nearby, a stunning inland lagoon oasis with a fabulous restaurant and bar that feels like being on a private island paradise. SO/ Sotogrande manages to balance effortless luxury, incredible wellness, and deep-rooted Andalusian soul. We left feeling completely recharged and aligned, and we are already dreaming of our return!

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at the SO/Sotogrande. We had upgraded to the suite which was amazing. Very comfortable bed and very clean. Food was excellent throughout but the best thing about this hotel is the staff. They are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making it feel like an intimate family hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay and would highly recommend.

Do NOT go to this resort.Unfriendly welcome when we arrived late due to plane leaving London 3 hours late and then diverted to Malaga. We arrived around 8.15 and was told we could not go to a restaurant as they were full and we hadn't booked . We were on All Inclusive and we couldn't book while on plane., Man on reception told us to go to a bar and get tapas. When I asked where it was and could he take us he just pointed . He could not care less. Only 1 restaurant each day for breakfast and lunch . Service dreadful. So slow always. Other guests also complained. about service. 4 times we ordered Cava and they gave us flat drinks. One breakfast we found a hair in the food. Menu for lunch was mostly burgers hot dogs, poke bowls, Thai. I did not go to Spain to eat this food .Only 4 options for fish and just one was Spanish. Rest were English, Mexican and Thai. All the chicken dishes bar one were breaded. And some were Italian style food. The evening restaurant was dark and no atmosphere. Food slightly better but certainly not what I expected from " Michelin Star" chef. The bar at pool was closed even though the pool had many people there. You could only order from an app and all cocktails came in tins. The Spa was saving grace with friendly, helpful staff and very good facilities. Our room was excellent. We were given 2 bottles of wine as compensation for the arrival . too little, too late. At end of week Chloe took over all our issues. But it was just too late. In Society restaurant Patrizia and Katalina stood out as being very helpful. On reception at end of our trip Soroya was friendly and had a lovely manner about her. . This was my first holiday in a year so I was very, very disappointed. Cannot recommend at all .

Wow Sotogrande did not disappoint! Was a truly amazing place. I visited with a lovely group of ladies with Ladies Love Gokf and had an amazing time. The resort is stunning. The rooms beautiful appointed. But the standout is the staff. Every person I met made me feel special. A special mention for Mercedes who lit up the room with her smile at breakfast. The food was first class. Our meal at Marxa Grill was exceptional We played three rounds of golf. The course was beautiful. We especially loved the water brought to us on the course and a banana too! I will definitely be returning.
