Heritage Grand Perast by Rixos

Beautiful hotel, located in an old Venetian palace which has been perfectly restored and maintained. Fabulous location. Nice courtyard where you can enjoy an amazing view over the bay. Large, comfortable and quiet room, although the furniture is rather simple for a hotel of that category. A few organization problem, whether with the valet, at check-in or during breakfast, should be easy to fix.

Worst 5star hotel I have ever been to does not deserve its reputation. The breakfast is more than unpleasant the WiFi never functions so good luck getting work done and the rooms are very dirty. I would not wish a night on this crappy hotel on my worst enemy. Worst use of 1000$ ever.

Staying at this hotel to experience Perast before and after the crowds arrive/leave was the best decision ever. The style is sober chic - elegant rooms with soft colours and of course a wonderful view. Staff was kind and attentive and service truly 5* - I didn't have to worry about parking the car, carrying the luggage from/to the parking spot, etc. Special thanks to Katarina at reception desk, who was adorable. Absolutely recommended.

When you arrive you will be blown away but this stunning hotel the village of Perast is so aesthetically pleasing set beneathlll hill of St Ilija with views of islets of St. George and Our Lady of the Rocks on the Verige strait. Our room was the Perast Superior whilst I didn’t pay for the sea view I didn’t expect to be looking at a wall through the window with no daylight. It should state on the booking that the rooms will have limited view. The air con is also set to warm for the whole hotel so when I put the air con on when I went to bed I didn’t realise I woke up the room was like a sauna. When I asked reception they were very unhelpful and advised the air con was set to warm and would be like that for a few weeks still. I was unable to have the window open as although the village is very quiet where the room is located is very loud till the early hours. Again I did try and discuss this with reception however they were disinterested. This is not what I expect from a 5 star especially a Rixos. Positives As I have said the hotel is stunning and the rooms are spacious. The service from the rest of the staff in the hotel has been amazing in the bar and restaurant. They cannot do enough for you. The breakfast is really good. It is a buffet but you can order your eggs which include omelette and eggs Benedict. There is a great choice of hot and cold. The meats selection is delicious. I would like to say a special thank you to Kemal who really looked after us, great server.

First thing to say is it was an early springtime holiday, so some of the highlights and issues from previously listed reviews here were not evident to our stay. We arrived to a grey damp and wet Perast mid afternoon at the hotel. But still the scenery during our drive from the Airport at Dubrovnik was breathtaking, Driving around the fjord side road was something we didn’t expect. The welcome by the hotel receptionist brightened the drab and soon to be wet weather. Sadly the following day was similar so we found early in our stay the indoor swimming pool, saunas and spa area. The pool was very cool to say the least but it is a good size and very clean and well presented area. Bottles of water and towels laid out at every pool bed, very smart changing, showering and toilet areas too. The weather picked up quickly during our stay, to the point that breakfast was offered to guests to be available outside on the pontoon area overlooking the fjord. This was very enjoyable and allowed you to relax and soak in the breathtaking views across the fjord and mountains. Breakfast was not rushed, although in the middle of the season I could imagine it more frantic. But the staff were always very attentive to our needs. Although the service was sometimes haphazard at times, I put that down to some of the staff been obviously new for the season, and at times the younger staff were a tad hesitant to engage. But as we were on a relaxing break we were never in a rush, nor did we get strung up about it ! That said the restaurant manager who is called Alexander, was always present morning through to evening ensured that your stay was made perfect. The attention to detail from Alex made every guest willing to engage with him and his staff made you feel special every time you stepped into the hotel courtyard and eating areas. Our room was very spacious, with plenty of room to relax in, with lovely sumptuous large super king size bed, a spacious bathroom with a strong monsoon shower, piping hot water at all times. The bathroom toiletries were totally 5*, Bulgari I believe, so don’t bring any of your own….. we had a walk in dressing room, with plenty of hanging space, free safe etc.. Room service was the best we have witnessed for quite sometime on our travels. Perfect 3 times daily service, with towels and linen changes daily if you require. Also daily replenishment of tea/coffee/water options. Daily evening turn down service. The spa area, my wife had 2-3 treatments here and very much enjoyed her experience, saying that her treatments were excellent and hit the spot! The hotel restaurant is more pricey than the other ones on the small Perast front promenade. But it is the only 5* hotel to be fair. I had one evening the steak tartar option, again it was the best I have had for many years, as was the Mushroom/ truffle risotto that followed it. Other restaurants along the Perast front were good, offering touristy- options of Montenegro meals, but these also could be pricey if you had 2 courses each with wine, so it is unfair to compare Heritage to the others, as the surroundings and service of the restaurant at Heritage is superior to the alternatives. Generally in most Montenegrin restaurants food served are not what you’d call..British piping hot! It’s usually served slightly more than warm, sometimes hot if your lucky.. we tried 4 or 5 other eateries in Perast all were good, all worth a try if your here. Boats across to the two island opposite the hotel cost 5€ per person, they’ll drop you off at the island, and take your time viewing the Lady of the rock church. It’s dedicated to the lady who oversees all seafarers going to sea over 400 years. It costs 3€ p.p. To enter, it also has a small museum of relics and artifices relating to the church etc..the person overseeing the entrance is very informative about the church and exhibits. It’s well worth the trip. We took the local bus a couple of times into Kotor, bus can be caught up at the main road entrance to Perast frontage about 5 mins walk to stop. 1.5€ each on way. Kotor is a lovely walled Medieval old town area, bus stops outside main gate in Kotor. Half day to visit. We suffered no issues with the previously mentioned odours or smells, possibly as it was early in the season, when pollution of boats, higher rainfall into fjord was higher, weather cooler than mid summer? But we smelt non of it! We also sat out on the copious sun beds available on the pontoon area, although I can imagine it been manic in mid season, As the sun beds are very close together in the restricted available area, also the small pontoon dip pool was available, but far too cold in March to use, but in July/August it would be a welcome cool dip I’d imagine. For March when the sun shone, it still got rather warm, so July through to September I could imagine it would be intense. As we visited in early season, sadly we witnessed no evening indoor nor outdoor music to hotel areas, the outdoor courtyard seats were used, but it was very much pre-summer. But it still looked beautiful. In all our stay here was very relaxing, as Perast was running on pre-season, but it gave us some lovely memories of our week here. Very relaxed, very tranquil, very enjoyable….. possibly not the same in 3 months or so in the location.
