Iberostar Waves Herceg Novi

We’ve just returned from a lovely 10 day break at this hotel. It is out on a limb away from Herceg Novi town (which you can see across the bay) but you can get to town by taxi boat from the hotel for €30 return per couple (cash only). Or there’s a bus stop outside the hotel which goes in for €1 each! It’s worth going into town, (shops closed on Sunday) but beware of the amount of steps to get up to the old town. It’s worth the climb. The first fort is €4 each entry, but this gives you 50% discount on the second fort. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean, with everything you need, but it is a little dated and worn around the edges in places with things you don’t expect to see in 2026 such as damaged sockets and switches and tv remote held together with black tape (not that we used it) and a tired, leaking shower enclosure. The shower was hot and powerful. Overlook some of these issues and it’s great. We had to change rooms as we’d booked/requested and paid for a double room with sea view. We were initially given a twin room with partial sea view. This was very quickly rectified, however. It is hilly and there are steps up to the top rooms so bear this in mind as it’s not really suitable if you have mobility issues. Similarly with access to the restaurant being up a number of steps. A quirk is that you have a coffee machine in the room rather than a kettle and ‘makings’ and you have to fill a carafe with cold water from the machine on each floor. (It also dispenses hot water). Another quirk is having to pay €20 deposit per beach towel which is payable only in cash, but is returned at the end of the holiday. I found it odd you couldn’t just charge the room. Room safes are chargeable daily! The ATM in reception will charge you €6 per transaction over and above your banking fees so have cash with you to pay for pool towel deposit, taxi boat and hire car. Food is buffet style with a ‘specials’ station right in front of you as you walk in which changed each day. The food was very good the first few days, but we did notice a dip in quality halfway through as it got busier with incinerated meat and fish and sloppy vegetables. We actually thought they’d changed all the chefs! It improved again a few days before we left. On that subject, the drinks are self service for wine and beer at the beach bar and restaurant. Drinks are of high quality. Cocktails are freely available at the bars. There are three main bars those being the pool bar, beach bar and rooftop bar. The rooftop bar is great, but only opens 7-11pm. All the staff are wonderful and can’t do enough for you, particularly the reception staff. We took top tips for a road trip we did in a hire car from the hotel for €60 for the day (cash only) (highly recommended rental company with no hassle re extra insurance) all around the bay of Kotor for a day taking in Perast, Kotor and Tivat. We drove the Serpentine Rd up to the top cable car station and beyond to the Mausoleum. All in all a round trip of 140km (but you can greatly reduce this by taking a ferry for €5 per car). Everything said we enjoyed a lovely 10 day break at this hotel. Stand out staff were all those on reception (can’t remember names sorry!) and Janko who runs the rooftop bar. Thanks.

Location & view stunning!! Across the bay. Staff pleasant enough. Star Cafe is the best thing about this hotel. We arrived from 5 days in Dubrovnik where we could not fault this place and wish we could go back. We were faced with a very busy resort !! Room 1 Paid for sea view, got partial, lights in bathroom not working, sink blocked & bath did not drain away so blocked too!! Reception did react very quickly. Room 2 some lights still out in bathroom, no shampoo in shower, curtains hanging off my husband had to sort out. Food ok, if you want me to eat in a canteen style buffet. Lots of steps and steep ones too. Second morning ‘Sunday’ woken up at 6am with a ‘Madonna’ tribute concert being played across the bay. Not sure I want to continue as I’m still here and so upset as it’s my husband’s 60 birthday and wanted this twin centre to be special. I cried when we arrived as so shocked at the differing standards and quality from Hotel More in Dubrovnik. Make up your own mind !! But would never recommend. If you like cruises you’ll love this.

This was my 2nd visit to this hotel and my mum and i enjoyed it even more this time and i’ll definitely be back. Entertainment - The entertainment team were phenomenal. Sun-Fri they are around creating the best atmosphere. Don’t miss the night time entertainment cos The Adams Family night and casino night were amazing!! I don’t know where they get their energy. If you have kids they’ll keep them entertained too. Location - Perfect! Stunning views, private beach and well looked after. As we went at the very end of May it was a quick transfer from Dubrovnik airport. We were only about 35mins on the way there and max an hour on the way back. Trips - If you’re booking trips i’d recommend using the company at the hotel - Petar boats. I’ve done all the trips before and i’d recommend them all. I would advise taking some cash as it’s needed for the beach towels and the boat over to Herceg Novi. I usually just use my credit card, but there is a cash machine. Trips can be paid by card. Rooms - The rooms were modern, clean and tidy. A plus for me which i forgot was that they have a proper hairdryer. Not the ones attached to the wall that are useless, so that’s one less thing to pack. Staff - Every single person was so friendly and i think management did a great job hiring. The restaurant staff were so efficient and friendly. I always enjoy a wee chat, but that’s what the Scottish are like. I was also really impressed that they sang happy birthday to me and brought out a cake and bottle of wine. I never told them as i don’t like a fuss, but it was very sweet. I’ve been to other hotels on my birthday that haven’t done this so it was a lovely gesture. Food - Absolutely brilliant. If you’re a fish lover and a meat eater, you’ll not be disappointed. I’ve never eaten so much fish on holiday and i am not mad about it. At lunch and dinner they cook 3 different meats to order. There’s a great selection and they do themed nights. My only gripe was the rice which could be a bit crunchy and the pasta sometimes overcooked. It’s not a big deal though. Also, the cocktails are amazing. Some were stronger than others and again the bar staff were lovely. An extra addition which was a great one, was the food truck at the pool area. They served, burgers, nuggets, chips etc and ice cream, pastries and waffles. Ideal for kids and us adults. Overall i had the best time and met the nicest people while i was away. Everyone was so friendly and happy and i think a lot of that was to do with the atmosphere the staff created. You won’t be disappointed if you choose this hotel.

We are currently staying in this hotel, and have been here 5 days now. The stand out features are the cleanliness (which is noticeably excellent, everywhere), and the staff, who have all been extremely friendly and always provide a positive experience. They seem to have a real pride in what they do and their place of work. Probably the best ive experienced. There is a private beach (not sand), which has enough sunbeds for everyone and a pontoon you can swim out to. The beach bar has self serve soft drinks and the usual bar selections. Ive been to many AI hotels since covid, and the queue times for drinks have all increased hugely (or wait times due to 'table service'). Thankfully that isnt the case here, and you never have to wait. The main pool area has plenty of sunbeds and a nice vibe. The animation team does the usual aqua gym etc, and the guys doing it do it well. There's a blonde lady selling trips there too who is very informative and not pushy at all. We're off on the Kotor trip today. The food is good. Standard AI cuisine with a themed section each evening. Its not outstanding, but its similar to the other 5* AI restaurants we go to and I enjoyed all the meals. Theres plenty of food and always plenty of room in the restaurant. Evening entertainment has been good. The live singers were excellent. Sports on the screens. The room is very nice with good air con. The views from the balcony (we have a premium sea view room, 2510) are fantastic. The area is absolutely stunning. Its not perfect. €3.50 a day for a safe is genuinely ridiculous and needs reconsidering. Mini Bar charges also very high, so we didnt use it. But these are minor issues. We are having a fantastic holiday and I would highly recommend that anyone comes to try this hotel. We've spoken to many people around the pool and bar areas as you do on holiday, and everybody is enjoying their holidays here. I will defintely recommend to friends and family.

Just back from a 10 day stay which we throughly enjoyed. The hotel has a beautiful location although isolated but with great views and a private beach. The nearest town is 10 mins by regular boat which is fun or a long walk. The staff are wonderful nothing being too much trouble and I would particularly pick out the lady selling boat tickets . The entertainment is also good particularly the orchestra. We found the food a little repetitive and offering a buffet service means that at times the food wasn’t hot. The bars served a great range of drinks as part of the package. There are some maintenance issues that need resolving but nothing major.
