Our stay at Hotel Miramare was overshadowed by an extremely serious privacy violation and, even more troubling, the response of General Manager Goran Babin. While my wife and I were getting dressed in our suite, a man suddenly opened our closed and locked door and stood there staring into the room. Our “Do Not Disturb” sign was clearly displayed. He did not knock or announce himself. I immediately shut the door and stepped outside to confront him. Rather than apologize, he simply responded, “Why?” and walked away. I confirmed with the front desk that he was a hotel employee. The staff downstairs were professional, empathetic, and genuinely concerned. They attempted to have the employee apologize, but he argued with them and walked away. Eventually, with the assistance of a police officer who came to hear what had happened, the employee apologized. We accepted the apology and were prepared to move forward. Unfortunately, the situation became considerably worse when General Manager Goran Babin finally appeared. Upon greeting us with; “you’re the one that caused this terror.” After the opening gaslighting, Mr. Babin asked us to sit down and discuss with. We initially assumed this was a translation issue, but when we asked him to clarify, he emphatically stated that he stood by those words. Rather than acknowledge the seriousness of an employee entering an occupied guest room without knocking while the occupants were undressed, he focused on his anger that we had called the police, (he had visible disdain for the police). His demeanor was dismissive and confrontational. He shrugged, scoffed, and made faces while we explained why the incident had left us feeling violated and unsafe. He then emphasized that he manages two hotels, has 30 years of hospitality experience, and even referenced his BMW keys. None of this addressed the fundamental issue: a hotel employee entered our occupied room without warning while we were undressed, despite a clearly displayed Do Not Disturb sign, and his manager responded by blaming the guests rather than demonstrating concern or accountability. This was not a minor customer-service issue. We were unexpectedly exposed in our own hotel room and left wondering whether we could reasonably expect privacy or security during our stay. The incident could have been handled professionally with a sincere apology and appropriate concern. Instead, Mr. Babin’s response turned an otherwise manageable situation into an experience we will not forget. I want to specifically recognize Diana and Paul at the front desk. Both were kind, professional, empathetic, and did everything they reasonably could to help us. The other hotel staff we encountered were also pleasant and courteous. The hotel itself is beautiful, our suite and balcony were lovely, and the sunset was spectacular. Unfortunately, those positives cannot overcome the conduct of the general manager. There was also a maintenance issue with the suite: the pocket door separating the bedroom from the living area was stuck open and unusable. We had specifically booked the suite so I could get up early, make coffee, and watch television without disturbing my wife. We reported the problem, but ultimately maintenance did not enter the room during our stay. It is unfortunate to write such a review because Hotel Miramare has many things going for it. However, leadership matters. Based on our experience, we would not stay here again while Goran Babin remains General Manager, and we cannot recommend the hotel to friends or family under the current management. The original incident was unacceptable. Mr. Babin’s response was worse. A hotel guest should never have to explain to its general manager why entering an occupied room without knocking is a serious breach of privacy, and certainly should not be made to feel that the guest is somehow responsible for the “terror” created by reporting it. One star as a result of Goran Babin

Beautiful Hotel, we were amazed at the apartament and the interior. Amenities are very nice and the massage is highly recommended. Pool is very nice and there are two Finnish and one Turkish sauna. All of them are clean and since we were vising in the November, there was enough room. It is a great weekend gateway, we got offered the apartament instead of the room (for the same price) since we came in late post season. Crikvenica is amazing and the view to the sea from the room is marvelous.
