We arrived at the Pickalbatros Palace Hotel around 8pm after travelling since early morning. This trip was a surprise from our children for our 30th wedding anniversary, so we were really excited. Check‑in was smooth, but when we got to the room… it was a let‑down. For a sea‑front room, it felt very plain — no scatter cushions, no throw at the end of the bed, just basic white bedding. It was clean, but not at all what you’d expect from a 5‑star hotel or from the photos online. I was too tired to make a fuss, but as new guests, I expected something a bit more welcoming. We headed down for something to eat, though being late, the options were limited. Still, we found something. We’d been told on the transfer that an easyJet rep would visit the hotel to explain the dos and don’ts for staying in Egypt, but no one ever showed up. A bit disappointing, but we moved on. The next day we went to customer services to ask about booking the à la carte restaurants. The lady there, Nada, was absolutely lovely. She explained everything clearly and told us to come to her with any concerns. I mentioned the room and how different it looked compared to the online adverts. She reassured me immediately and said she’d take care of it. The resort itself is stunning — spotless, beautifully maintained, and the staff are genuinely fantastic. We also met Alex from Casa Spa, who was such a friendly, genuine guy. He wasn’t pushy at all, just happy to chat and answer questions. I’d definitely recommend speaking to him. The following day we put the room sign out for housekeeping. When we returned in the afternoon, the room looked incredible. They’d created a beautiful towel bird with flowers — it honestly transformed the whole space. On our last full day, after returning from a day trip, we bumped into Nada again. She offered us a late check‑out until 2pm since our flight was much later, which saved us sitting around in reception for hours. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and we really appreciated it. Overall, I would come back — the hotel and staff truly are wonderful. But I’d probably choose a different time of year. Being stared at by other tourists as if you’re an exhibit was uncomfortable, and of course that’s not something the hotel control.
